Truth. The sad thing is, I don't even think the majority of this shit is on the radio anymore (though it was like 2-20 years ago).

About the only thing that can save this game now is the gameplay, which I would imagine they couldn't actually manage to screw up.

To offer a theory, maybe those girlish tracks are for a female-centric story mode. Didn't the original Ouendan have female cheerleaders as the leads in Hard mode?

The list doesn't seem all that different from the japanese one in the sense that it is just a bunch of mainstream crap.

Most of you hate the soundtrack for Elite beat agents, and the same can be said for most japanese people in regards to ouendan.

I'm currently livin in japan and the only songs my friends can tolerate if any of us play ouendan is " Linda Linda ".

That would seriously work. I mean, it worked for Katamari Damacy, so I don't see why not.

Though on second thought, the EBA list isn't so bad. Even Ouendan had songs I disliked (egyptian level specifically) and I'm a huge weeaboo. I just don't understand how they find Survivor a fitting song for this game.

Aren't the songs in the game covers? The videos that they have on IGN with the songs Highway Star and Walkie Talkie Man have completely different singers(The Steriogram song actually sounds better).

It's not the songs so much as the singers I don't like. Most(excluding Deep Purple and anything before the 90's) of the almost-decent written songs are ruined by the singers inability to sing them.

Though a lot of this list is not so good, I'm really looking forward to playing "Rock This Town" and "Canned Heat".

Yeah they would be. The songs in Ouendan sounded so close to the real ones (aside from a few obvious ones) that I thought that they WERE the real ones.

YMCA is freaking awesome! Seeing them do the YMCA poses instantly brung tears to my eyes, it was so freaking COOL!!.

And after listening to all of the songs featured in this game, I only found 5 songs that I can't stand(Destiny's Child, Lavigne, Simpson, Madonna and Cher) opposed to the whole track list for Ouendan.

Next friday can't get here soon enough.

After them giving God Hand a low score, Touch Detective a low score, and now EBA with it's questionable tracklist a ridiculous 9.5, I'm never going to visit IGN again. Not that I made a habit of doing this, but what the hell.

I should've learned when they gave Jade Empire a score of what, 9.9 or something? Yeah.

The track list isn't nearly as horrible as the crud that Ouendan had coursing through its veins, yet people still complain. Sure EBA has Average Lavigne, Destiny's Child and a Ashley Simpson on its track list, but those three songs are minor nuisances when you have artists like David Bowie, Deep Purple, Queen and Rolling Stones.

It's sickening.

Until I bought a copy and looked at the actual box, I didn't realize that Elite Beat Agents had been branded as a Touch Generations title. (You know, Nintendo's "Hey kids, give this to grandma" label.) But it's totally fitting and, more importantly, absolutely vindicates my insightful punditry, i.e. making fun of the people who've freaked out about the changes from the Japanese version.

Of course, it's always great fun to mock the easily-offended sensibilities of super-hardcore Pocky-munching DDR-stepping yaoi-drawing faux-Japanophiles. (You know, the ones who are only interested in foreign culture to the extent that it intersects anime and whose frequently-employed Japanese vocabulary consists of "kawaii," "sugoi" and "baka.") But the freaked-out backlash against Elite Beat Agents has been a particularly savory chestnut to roast thanks entirely to its utter, preposterous stupidity.

Their logic, such as it is, goes like this: Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan! was an amazing game, but its appeal was predicated solely upon all the licensed J-pop music. The humor, the gameplay, the clever comic-style scenarios were, to hear them tell it, totally immaterial. Therefore its English version -- Elite Beat Agents -- is going to be awful due to the fact that the Japanese music has been discarded in favor of songs accessible and familiar to Americans.

Never mind that it's really an entirely new game, with all new scenarios to match the new tunes. Never mind that the game could never have come to the U.S. with its original music intact, because what publisher would pay to license music that only the tiniest slice of American gamers would recognize? Maybe therein lies the problem -- gamers have a terrible time dealing with the notion that their clique, clan or cult isn't the first consideration in their favorite company's every business decision. The cliquier and clannier they are, the harder it is for them to accept this reality. And licensing Chicago and Cher for EBA sends a very clear message to the J-tards: you are not our core audience.

And good thing, too. EBA may just be the most accessible game on the DS, which is really saying something. The gameplay is simple, the scenarios are genuinely funny, and the music works well. Yeah, all of it. The clever thing about licensing familiar U.S.-charting pop is that your mom/dad/sister/grandma is going to hear David Bowie or the Village People blasting from your DS and be curious about it. And then he/she will try it. And be hooked. And suddenly, BAM, new gaming fan. Well, maybe it won't be quite so simple as that, but EBA has more potential to turn people onto gaming than just about anything else I can think of, and the fact that Nintendo recognizes this bodes well for their future, I think.

So anyway, buy EBA when it ships next week. If I'm not mistaken, it's the highest-scoring title I've reviewed all year. (Not that numbers mean anything, but you get the idea.) And you haters can go choke on a Pocky. Hopefully one of the almond-encrusted ones -- they look really painful.

Actually, I watched the September vid, and it looks really fun. I totally can't wait. Thank goodness they are *probably* playing hard in those vids, because it looks a lot more interesting like that.

I'm cised for this game's release. Other than a minimal amount of Donkey Konga, I haven't played any music/rhythm game for over a year now; and the last title of the genre I did play was: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, which was a ridiculous amount of fun. Just have to make sure I use earphones when I play it in public. Some of those "artists"... Destiny's Child, Good Charlotte, Ashlee Simpson.

It's hard mode. Easy has Agent Spin(sports headphones) as the leader, normal has Agent J and Insane has the Elite Beat Divas.

Well, taking the 19 CD quality songs(5 more than OTO!, which comes to 80-85 mbs) into consideration. This game(as iNiS stated) is superior to OTO in every way and judging from the videos, it's quite apparent, you also have the smoother, linked dance moves which would end up taking more space than what OTO had.

Anyway:Reviews for the game have been amazing! Nintendo Power gave it a 9.5. IGN giving it a 9.5 and now 1up.com giving a solid 9.

Well, I've given it a shot and personally, I don't enjoy it compared to OTO.. At least with OTO, the cheerleading was part of the culture. With this one, you've just got random men showing up and dancing for no particular reason. I also find that Japanese voice actors are way more enthusiastic about their yelling than english voice actors are. Oh well, it's still a good attempt.. Not bad for a localisation of a crazy Japanese game.

I've played it for a solid 2 hours and here's what I've managed to gather from playing it.

First of all, normal mode is really fucking weird if you've played Hard/Insane Ouendan. Weird as in, it's extremely slow moving. Every song you clear opens up 2 more stages.

Some songs, on the other hand, are really good. The christmas and nurse stages are really nice, and even The Anthem is pretty cool. Unfortunately this is countered by shit like David Bowie and Material Girl (which happens to remind me of Paris Hilton and Nicole) and that song from the director's level, which sounds and feels out of tune and pretty lame.

I'm sure when I get to hard mode it'll become better. The comic style is still the same, which is nice. The only problem with the stories is that some of them are so farfetched it's like they just threw anything together to add songs.

But yeah, I'll play around with it later tonight. My neck hurts like hell from being in the same position for such a long period of time while playing this. I'll let you know what the final song is.

Also yeah, I agree with kensuke. I wouldn't give this game a score over Ouendan, to be honest. Personally I enjoyed Ouendan more, but this is still a pretty solid game. Still, giving it a 9.5 is ridiculous.

I've finished the game now, and some of the gameplay mechanics have been vastly improved in this one. I think I'm just biased towards Ouendan because I liked the j-rock and mood better, but this game is genuinely good. Being able to skip straight to the 3-2-1 saves so much time (Ready Steady Go on hard mode anyone?)

EDIT - Ok, I just checked the song list and I did not hear ABC - Jackson 5 anywhere in the game.. Any idea how to unlock it?

Well, I got the ROM, and...it's not compatible with G6 Lite, I guess. So much for being a cheapass

But lucky for me, I was planning to buy it anyway. I'm glad it has been getting good reviews, and that it has made improvements in some ways over Ouendan. Can't wait until I have a few bucks so I can go get it.
