For Windows 64-bit and Windows 2003 you need the following file to play the demo.
http://www.epicgames.com/download/UT3Demo-XP64-2K3.zip P.S. The hover board rocks. Can't wait to play the final build with all the maps and characters. And the two highest graphics settings. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I've been a huge fan of the UT series since the first game, so its great to see this game looking like it does - while also getting strong reviews on the demo. I have it downloading as we speak - now what are the hardware recommendations again? (I have no doubt that I can run it, I paid 2k for my computer a year and a half ago)
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Downloading now. I have an E6550 and 8600 GT, so it will be interesting to see how it performs. This title has been oddly under the radar for the most part; hopefully the demo (and the fact that Halo 3 release has come and gone now) will bring it out of hiding...

Oh, you mean that unsupported ugly duckling, Windows XP Professional x64. (The filename even freaking says XP64 and 2k3.) In other words, Windows Vista Ultimate x64 works just fine without any special extras, thanks.

Well I have;
Intel Core 2 6600 3Gb 667 DDR2 RAM GeForce 8600GTS Ageia PhysX Onboard audio (waiting for the PIE-E Audio cards to come out) And I get a 40FPS average with everything on the highest settings. And resolution at 1440x900 FELIPE NO |
I am running:
WinXP Pro E6550 Crucial Ballistix 2GB @ 4-4-4-12 WD 500GB Caviar SE16 Gigabyte DS3P rev 2.0 (p35 chipset) Gibabyte 8600 GT silent heatpipe card Edit: forgot to mention, I'm running at 1280x1024 native LCD resolution I have graphics settings on high (level 5) and I've only played with bots (not online) and I experience no lag or slowdown. I have no idea what framerates I'm getting, but playability/graphics are as good as I'd ever want them to be. For me to have bought a 8800-variant card to play this game would have been a waste of $$. About the demo itself: God what a lame demo! The demo for UT2k4 had Onslaught. What does this demo have? A couple of lame maps with absolutely nothing special about them and ooh CTF with vehicles... As someone mentioned before, it's just UT2k4 with prettier graphics. Which is pretty great actually in and of itself, but nothing like the evolutionary step from UT2k3 to UT2k4 was... What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I wouldn't count it out yet. This is not a consumer demo for which to base the final product on (unlike the 2K4 non-beta demo) like a lot of people are doing. It's a BETA which has decent but not full graphical capabilities or functionality. It's mearly to test system compatibility and online stability of the game so that the devs can make the final tweaks before release.
The revolutionary game mode for UT3 will be the Warfare mode, which was not included in the BETA because they're not testing the fun factor of the game with the BETA. They're testing that by flying in journalists and what have you in to their studio to play the retail version. P.S. If you want to see your FPS. While playing a match hit the ~ button to bring up the game console. Then type "stat fps" or "statfps" (can never remember which) and that'll tell you how fast the game is running. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Even still, I'm disappointed in the lack of destructible/interactive environments. You'd think that by now, from Epic, all the dev time, and a new Unreal engine would do something in the way of said interaction, but it appears not. I don't see any reason they'd keep that out of the beta demo though, as it's a gameplay behaviour and not a feature/mode.

Now, I have a fair computer. Its a 3.2 Ghz with 2 Gigs of RAM with a GEForce 6800 - and this demo ran like mollases on a frozen sidewalk. Admittedly, I didn't play too much with the graphics settings but its amazing to see that I can run a game from the end of 2006 on its highest settings - and this runs like ass and/or cock on middle settings.
I guess Ill have to wait for the 360 port. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
@Free.User
I was pretty disapointed with the lack of destructable enviroments too. Especially since I have a PhysX card and the E3 demo of UT3 made it seem that there was a lot of destruction to be had in the game. While it's not looking good, I'm still going to hold out judgment until the final build. @LeHah Games are just beginning to require dual-core to run efficiently. However seeing how you have a 3.2Ghz CPU I don't think that that is your main problem. Here's some GPU benchmarks. I'll see if I can find one using the 6800 itself though. ![]() UPDATE I don't seem to be able to find any benchmarks using a 6800 for UT3. However seeing how the 6800 and a 3-4Ghz CPU is the recomended card to even play the game. That means that using a GeForce 6 series card is what's needed to make the game playable. That means medium - medium-low settings and around 28FPS I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Oh nice.. I've been wondering about the FPS for 7600GT which I have.
As for the demo, it is a BETA so if you feel something should be changed, post on the official forums. Mark Rein and many of the developers have been constantly checking the forum and responding as much as possible to their fans' requests. It's been stated that the BETA was meant to test things and that the Unreal Warfare mode was way too varied in gameplay to just test within 1 map. I would expect the actual retail demo to be much different than the BETA demo we're playing right now. As for the evolutionary jump, I assume you may be talking about dodge jump and a few other features that UT2k4 had that got stripped out of UT3? Trust me, you aren't the only one who feels this way. It's been suggested that Epic had to go back on the gameplay because of the original UT community and pressure from the overall FPS community. As far as I can tell, most FPS players cannot stand a more 3-dimensional of FPS like UT2k3 and 2k4 which was why UT2k4 was albeit unpopular with a lot of FPS players where as they preferred more "grounded" 2-D battles like the original UT. Personally I prefer UT2k3-2k4 more because it really defines the series as a different FPS overall. Now it just feels like I'm playing Quake... though rumours say that there will be a dodge jump mutator//ut2k4 settings mutator in the final version to appease their 2kX community. I was speaking idiomatically.

These are my computer specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz 3 GB of RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS The game runs smoothly at 50 fps with all of the highest settings. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!

Yeah that's pretty sweet man. Your Quad Core does seem to make a difference over my Dual Core. Even with a lesser GPU then mine it still makes a noticable difference.
Could I ask what conditions you were running in so that I could make a more accurate comparison of the CPU difference. Game Mode: Level: # of Bots: Where you moving/playing OR standing in one spot? UPDATE Nevermind man. I found what I was looking for. ![]() ![]() ![]() FELIPE NO |
Playing Suspence (the Vehicle CTF map) with 24 people I would get around 45-50 fps normally and 40 fps during crazy moments.

1UP has a preview/hands-on video of UT3. They played the PS3 build which is a sub-focus of the video. But you still get to see footage of levels and features that were not in the Beta and they're take on the new game.
BeyondUnreal - New UT3 Footage UPDATE! I just recently found out by a friend who did some code mining that the game has a frame-cap at 62FPS. It can be disabled however, but you then get a prompt everytime you start the demo that the code of the BETA has been modified. Secondly I ran the BETA in DX9 mode by altering a simple line of code. My FPS soared from 40FPS in DX10 to 60FPS. No real graphical difference that I've noticed. However both DX10 functionality and performance may be drastically different in the final build. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

Yupp. You gotta love the soundtrack for this one (you can listen to it on the official site). Some new, and some remakes. Perfect!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
My computer runs the game at 50+ FPS at 1680x1050 with everything cranked to maximum, but I'd be a bit irked if it didn't.
Core 2 Quad@3.2 GHz GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM Vista Ultimate ;_; no i didn't make this post solely to brag about my computer's e-pen0r size. I must say that I'm having fun with the demo, though the textures ARE a bit muddy given how astronomical the system requirements/technology behind the game is. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
From Wikipedia: PC Recommended System Requirements: * 2.4+ GHZ Dual Core Processor * 1 GBytes of System RAM * NVIDIA 7800GTX+ or ATI x1300+ Video Card * 8 GB of Free Hard Drive Space So what you have is pretty good enough. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
![]() BTW, is it just me or is the Hoverboard worse than useless? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
it has its uses... when used properly it can be very useful like picking up your flag carrier midway back to base.
I just noticed but I dislike how the scorpian is missing the handbrake now =/ FELIPE NO

Requirements don't mean jackshit. Requirements just = "required" specs so the game doesn't melt down your system when you click the icon. I've tried plenty of games where I am past the "required" specs and the games ran like ass, frequently in the 20 FPS range or lower. If you don't meet recommended it's typically not worth it to bother.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Apologies for bumping this WAY UP because the PC version is apparently out.
To those who have played it, how is the soundtrack? (also requesting rip of the music lololz) Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
You know... i haven't bothered playing it lately because I heard you should really get a PhysX card for it which I dont have one, UI did not change which really upset me being a UT2k4 fan and I just got Phantasy Star Universe:Ambition of the Illuminus which has made me a pretty happy gamer.
There's nowhere I can't reach.

@Terminus
From what I've heard so far it's pretty good. Problem is that the dynamic track feature makes it really hard to hear a whole song. While it's cool for modes that have mood changes like warfare, gamemodes like deathmatch do not benefeit quite as muchh from this feature. @Para Feel free to add me to you UT3 friend list if you feel like it. I'm ChaosLegionaire Here is a changelog of the current UT3 Retail BETA patch. BeyondUnreal - UT3 Beta Patch Changelog As you can see, Epic is addressing the UI matter. The original intent of keeping the PC version so close to the console version was due to the plan of having PS3 <--> PC cross platform play. Now that the feature is on long term hold, they're reversing the changes they made to the original PC version. P.S. PhysX card does NOTHING that effects the overall game. Only maps like thoes created by Ageia use the card. So there is ZERO difference whether you have PhysX or not unless you play thoes 2 maps. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
