I am tempted to say that the episode where they both die is the last good episode I saw. I used to gasp and get excited by the shocks and twists, but now, they're so stupid I can hardly watch it. O WOW, DESMOND CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE. Locke takes LSD and gets answers from a dead character which acts on behalf of the island! so lame. Incidentally, Dopefish started watching from S3 as well. I made him watch the premier. Just before the premier, I showed him the first episode on DVD. HE HATED the first episode (i have no idea - I always thought it was amazingly powerful), but likes S3. WHAT THE FUCK. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

Because Season 3's actually been good perhaps?
Seriously, why's everyone bitching? Apart from some minor things (Locke being part of a fucking commune that grows weed for example) this season's been great so far. We knew that the show was gonna be more about the Others and we know that the show is supernatural in content. While I get your point about Libby being killed off (if you're gonna kill someone off, make sure you don't have a huge bloody question hanging over their heads), in the end she's dead and has an unresolved plot point. It needs to be solved because that's what the majority of people want. The writers have to cater to the fans and they've done this before (the Hatch for example, while being adored by myself, was disliked by others because it made life too easy for the survivors and so only lasted a season). Personally, I'm loving the way the show's gone and is still going. More Others and supernaturally goodness for me please. I would be patient right now concerning the (huge) question mark on how Locke, Desmond, and Eko survived. I'm pretty sure the answer to this will come later in the season. Desmond was acting as if he knows more than what he has told thus far.
As I've noted in this thread before, it took us over 10 episodes to find out that Locke was the one who hit Sayid over the head and crushed the radio in the first season, even though we knew this for a very long time. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |

I get annoyed when people expect answers every episode though. I like the mystery!

How ya doing, buddy? |
Here's an interesting theory as to Desmond surviving the destruction of the Swan despite seemingly being at the epicentre of everything...
Spoiler:
From Entertainment Weekly's site. It's nice, but I really don't want the series to turn into straight-up no-holds-barred scifi. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
It sort of makes sense, and would be cool if something to that effect proved true. But the problem is that if they can make it work once they're gonna do it again, and as many times as they can until the audience finally attacks them with torches and pitchforks. I don't want that to happen.
It's also a little too far out there, even for Lost. Hopefully tonight's episode will give us some answers, even just a little one. All i can say is, they'd better give us something to settle our minds before they go on hiatus till february. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Also, Kre - I LOVE that theory. I just wish everything would add up that nicely. I somehow doubt it, though. Consider how sloppy they've all been. Nothing has really added up to a whole lot. I keep wondering if in S5 (if they get that far with keeping the story intact), they will FINALLY enlighten us, completely and wholly. Is that how long we have to wait to get EVERYTHING answered? The least they can do is throw some tiny little bones at us to keep us interested. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Ha this show is dead if they have that long of a break. Considering its mediocrity for the past what 20 episodes, except for the occasional great one.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah, the huge break comes after episode six. Hey, we just went the summer without any updates; why can't we do another three months? Besides, I'm sure The Lost Experience will turn some new stuff up at the same time.
Oh, and a few days back someone mentioned that the hole around the hatch looked a little on the way-too-small side - Keep in mind that it was probably just the site of the hatch itself and not the whole DHARMA facility. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
So. Ben is dying from a tumor. Desmond looks and acts increasingly more and more like Jesus. The Island is actually ANOTHER island! Something I actually thought of WAY BACK in Season 1 where I heard rumors that Danielle was on a tiny island off the coast, with The Others.
They need Sawyer for some reason, and Kate is a dirty liar. Jack kills yet another (accidentally, of course) and Sawyer has a daughter. I am mad at Sawyer. I am unsure as to why. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I thought tonight's episode was fairly interesting, the flashback notwithstanding. At least it didn't focus solely on Jack, Sawyer, and Kate like the season premiere. Ugh.
The thought of the Others residing on a completely different island never occurred to me. That seems so odd, too, because the Hydra station is on this new island. Or perhaps the map revealed last season wasn't actually of the island but of the surrounding area? Oh, and as slightly cheesy as it was, I liked how the writers slipped in the line "Live together, die alone." This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
A pretty good episode overall tonight. Next week should be a really good one, but the ABC previews have let me down before. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
My question is, how haven't they seen the other island at all? There's no way that they could have not seen that thing at all this whole time between Michael, Walt, Sawyer in the raft, Desmond and all his misadventures, and Sayid, Sun, and Jin on the sailboat. Based on the view that Sawyer had, it's not exactly that far away.
I called shenanigans on that right away. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Because there is not an official map of the island(s) to show how the fuselage, hatch, The Black Rock, tail section, etc. are proportioned on the island, I don't think it is a stretch of the imagination that they just haven't reached that side of the island. Desmond's sailing around is definitely curious, but he said (I think) that the currents kept bringing him back, so we don't know if he actually sailed around the island.
How Rousseau's ship missed it is another story, though. Anyway, I would like to say that I do wish that the writers would throw up their hands in defeat and simply call this a sci-fi show. Saying that everything will have a logical explanation in the end just isn't going to work out and they might as well cut their losses and go fucking crazy. It's obvious that they want to, but they are holding themselves back. I say this because I love that theory posted above, but I know they will never use something like that because it will go over the audiences' heads. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

If they actually go with the reborn theory the show is going to be dead. It's an interesting show because it isn't sci-fi. That's the only thing that keeps it going. If they go sci-fi they might as well just say that the whole experience on the island "was just a dream dreamt by hurley" It would be an equal lame solution to everything.
I actually LIKED this latest episode. Sawyer had some very honest and vulnerable moments here, I never really connected to his character because he was the 'tough' guy, but this changed completely tonight, he's really a very sensitive person. I thought the whole interaction between kate and sawyer was awesome. Ok, they yet again gave us only ONE new revelation, that there are two islands, but I really liked the character development in this episode as well as the interaction between the characters. Especially when kate says "I don’t know what they did to you, but it’s made you scared enough to lie about it, and that scares me more than anything else they’ve done to us." Now they just have to be very very careful about what they're planning with Desmond. Making him ACTUALLY seeing the future is a very bad idea. The show will lose all credibilty. At least the credibilty it still has... Oh, and one more thing, I got REALLY bothered with the predictability of this episode though. Like Sawyer being on the warden's side and conning the guy for the ten million. SO obvious. As well as the lightning distractor (or however it's called in English) They tried to make it look like 'A STRANGE DEVICE!' I mean, how lame is that! Everyone could see from the very first second that it was going to get hit by lightening and that "OMG DESMOND WAS RIGHT". They're losing their touch... FELIPE NO

Lost is getting less and less real all the time. It started out as a believable show, with solid storylines and very interesting twists and turns. In my honest opinion, when I found out about the second island, I was like "2 ISLANDS?!?!? 2 FUCKING ISLANDS!??!??" - When they climbed the mountains to put the antenna up, they would have seen the other island, pure and simple, and they didnt. Its getting crap. Watch Heroes instead, at least that doesnt claim to be anything other than a sci fi super hero show.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Because I watched the first season on DVD, I didn't learn about how every mystery would have a "logical" explanation until I started reading up on Lost on the Internet during the first half of season two. I had always assumed that Lost was a sci-fi show up until then.
I was pretty disappointed when I heard that EVERYTHING was going to be real. But, whatever. It's the twist and turns (i.e. the revelation of the Black Rock, discovering Ethan was an Other, etc.) that I love the most about the show. And the monster. The monster really is the only reason why I wouldn't mind this being a sci-fi show. Because I love that damn monster. I just wish it would come back. And do something. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'm confused. What's the signifigance of there being two islands supposed to be?
The thing that struck me more was when Jack realized he was there to save someone. It gives a reason as to why they were keeping Jack under special treatment and not making him do the same seemingly pointless physical labour that Sawyer and Kate are subjected to. An shit, man, that trailer for next episode... ooooo they'd better deliver. And from the sounds of it, they're just gonna totally blow our minds, and leave us totally out to dry in terms of answers. Spoiler:
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I wish they'd give some resolution to previous mysteries before adding new ones.
I still wanted to know if the hatch had any real significance and what business Libby had being in Hurley's and Desmond's past. But no, they just blow it all up and kill off characters. Those old mysteries were shocking and made me want to watch more and hope they tie it all in together bit by bit later on. Now, 2 Islands? I don't give a fuck. I think they're just pulling shit out of their asses now. I'm actually glad they got rid of Michael (please make it forever..) I was tired of hearing his ass always complaining "I gotta save my son!" here's the promo for next week's ep clicky about that promo: Spoiler:

Great episode, one of my favourites for sure. I agree with yout theories regarding Desmond.
Promo is up on youtube just search for "lost episode 5 promo" - lol is it ET (I really hope its not an alien, just another trick). Seems like Mr Eko has lost his mind, and turned on Locke (im wondering if Eko and Desmond will become opposites!). When they revealed to Sawyer there was no pace maker, why didnt take their weapon like before, they obviously werent expecting him to hit the boss guy (i can never seem to remember his name). Still confused how eko was dragged by a polar bear without losing a limb?? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
