Seems so. Here's pics for the low end version and the high end one, the latter being the one of the metal finish. Notice the high end version has the Wi-Fi indicator on the front, while the 499 model does not.

Oh, and it weighs 11 pounds.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well finally, I was hoping for $500, but what is $100 more when we're still a full 6 months away from release, that's only $20 a month, and you still can SKIP a month...

At least we know what we're up to... Now get to work kids!

Yeah, if I remember the PS2's stats correctly, the machine is only 4.5-5 pounds. This thing is not only gargantuan in size, it's also a scale tilter.

What's fucked up, at least for me at least, is that I actually want to play quite a few PS3 games. But the total assfuck that Sony's pulling won't fly. At least there's always Nintendo and price drops on this machine.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

According to the Wiki info on it, 8.5 pounds. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the heaviest console in a long time.

Good to see I'm not the only one pissed at Sony. I was a big Sony fan, but I am extremely disappointed with the developments.

I was thinking of picking one up, but after adding everything up, it'll probably come out to around $900 CDN, for the system (premium!), an extra controller and a game. Even with a stupid name, the Wii seems like a much more viable choice. I read somewhere that it'll be $250 US, but we'll know tomorrow for sure. This can very well be PSP vs DS all over again, and I think Sony knows this, which is the reason they rushed the gyro.

Killzone (which is notably absent... ) is probably Sony's last hope right now to really shut up the naysayers if Microsoft unleashes Halo 3 around PS3's launch.

With Wii supposedly 250$ and the 360 dropping rumored to get a price cut of 100$ in November, Sony better have the best line-up titles in history. Have the online services free and give a free blowjob.

Sadly, I MAY end up buying one.....hoping that ASSASSIN won't get the exclusivity..........AND if MGS4 can come out early 2007, which it won't.

Damn Sony.

......Ohhh fuck. I'm gonna absolutely hear it at work tomorrow. I can't count the number of times I've said "No no, it's not gonna be $600. I doubt it'll even be $500. Sony's European rep mentioned a price point around $4-450." And then of course there's the "It'l come standard with a 60GB hard drive."

Goddamnit. I'm still buying one regardless, just sucks that it's gonna be so expensive. Maybe Sony'll pull an April's Fool joke or something and announce the real price of the PS3.

And maybe I'll wake up from that dream...

The biggest disappointment about the $500 model is the lack of memory card slots and internal Wi-Fi. The lack of HDMI outputs means little to me, as I don't have a high-def TV. But, I'll still fork over the $600. T_T Oh, my wallet's already crying.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I can only hope every single game allows you to turn off the motion sensing ability. Like I've said before, I have zero desire to ever play a game that requires me to move the controller to get results in the game.

But for $500, you get more than the $500 XBox 360 so really can't complain there. Can't say I'm happy with the end result, but can't exactly say I'm surpised either.

No rumble is annoying. It may seem like a minor thing, but I've went back to PSX a few times when doing things with it, and you REALLY miss the rumble capability. Sony really blew it this time IMO. They are afraid to innovate to stay on top.

Plus, I hate the dual shock controller. I waited 10 years for a change and STILL haven't got one. Are you kidding me? They have the worst analog sticks in the worst possible place. Not only are they positioned poorly, but the analog sticks don't have indentations for your thumbs. It's a minor thing, but still. Minor things added up can go a long way to improve the system.

Motsy for the win.

I can't believe how big of a rip off the $500 edition is compared to the $600 one. At this point they really are forcing you to buy the premium version. It's a shame.

All that's left now is to find out what's going to launch. They need a few great titles to stay afloat this holiday season if you ask me.

With new systems, sometimes it's the small things that really make an impression on you. Like with the 360, the added comfort with the back grip of the controller, and the start and back buttons moved. Also moving the black and white buttons and adding shoulder buttons. Plus turning the console off and on from the controller.

Sony seems afraid to make any changes. The dual shock isn't a bad controller, but it's not great. they were afraid to innovate. Do we really need motion sensors in it? That to me is a turn off, not a turn on. I wouldn't want to play a game that had it, and it prevents rumble capabilities.

Then again Dual Shock was fine as it was. Xbox's controller really needed the remake considering how large and bulky it was. Nintendo's controller kinda needed the new design considering its new uses. But with Playstation's controller it was fine before and there isn't such a leap in its control scheme to prompt a total redesign.

I hope people with $499 PS3s like starting all of their PS1 and PS2 games from scratch because the machine has no memory card slots.

Sometimes fine isn't good enough. Instead of fine, it can be great. They just decided to not try to make the best controller they could, I guess. Unless they admit they can't think of anything better.

It's a tad too small for my hands, which makes long sessions uncomfortable. Plus my thumbs slip off the analog sticks with the slick rubbery texture. Just not a huge fan of it. It's not bad, but not that great either.

I make no qualms about it.... I am a Nintendo fan. Always have been, and if they continue as they have been I will continue to be. I usually don't visit the Sony forums as such, because I don't have a Sony console. But this is a new generation of consoles and so Sony has a chance a getting my dollar because I am not closeminded.

But this isn't about Nintendo, or even Sony... This is about games. I have always wanted to buy a PS2. It's got great games, a huge catalog of em (especially if you count PSX games). I've never bought one though because of two reasons.
1. Too much money
2. Graphics that just didn't justify the cost to me. (not that the graphics are crap, just not quite good enough cause I HATE so much aliasing and poor textures)

But here is the bottom line: Am I willing to pay this much for these games?
The answer is NO. MGS4, FFXIII, and every other third party game will be ported when this thing flops because it is too dang expensive. And I shouldnt say flops because it will have a market.

High-end entertainment center hob-nobs. And how big is that market? It's big but not THAT big. I almost guarentee that this thing will sell out of the 400,000-800,000 or so units coming to the US alone for the fact that it is a Bluray player.

Remember how people are buying the PSP more for the protable screen (video, audio, net, photoviewer, etc.) than for the games? PS3 repeats this idea.

So I won't be buying the PS3. And in fact I have no desire to, unlike with the PS2 at launch.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

MGS4 won't be ported.

I think some people are overreacting. PS3 will still sell well, regardless what the Nintendo trolls would have you believe.

Quite honestly though, I probably won't buy on til the price drop.

I actually hope the PS3 will totally flop this holiday season due to the price-war that will undoubtly happen. Hopefully this will knock some sense into Sony and make them drop the prices on the PS3 sooner and with a steeper drop. Then I'll swoop in and pick one up.

How ya doing, buddy?
