Versus 13 put on hold

Square Enix: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Put On Hold

Yeah, after months of no news, they dropped a bombshell like this.

Annoucing a compliation was a bad idea to begin with, since they haven't even broken in their new hardware yet from the looks of it. Agito is all but officially cancelled, and now a major title that is said to be FF's version of KH is now put on hold. Gameplay wise this was the title I was looking forward to more, despite Lightening look cool in FFXIII.

But watching the compliation production is like a watching a slow train wreck. All cutscene and no gameplay makes me a dull girl. MGS4 had several demos for the past year, while FF has shown nothing but cutscenes and more cutscenes of new characters that only the JP people can see. Versus 13, be it before KH3's production or after, should have been announced after FF13 is close to being finished, or out the door.

And this can only mean one bad thing for me, KH3 will be delayed even further. Though I think Nomura should push KH DS and PSP out the door before even starting pre production on KH3. Still, this could mean I have to wait 5 years to even hear anything on KH3. And that makes me a sad panda.

Square needs to get their act together. Enix is still going good, since their games actually have a release date (Undiscovery) or a time frame (SO4). Konami has done well with MGS4 and its out now. Capcom did DMC 4 and is well into way for RE5, which has actual gameplay footage in its latest trailer. Out of all the major companies Square is the slowest in the next gen departement despite being practically the king of graphics.

Oh that's right, haveing awesome graphics doeesn't do jack if you suck at everything else, like slow development, milking something that's not broken in or shitty xenophobic marketing.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Dammit, I was really looking forward to a dynamite Yoko Shimomura score. The sample tracks made it seem quite terrific.

I hope that, if the project is cancelled, that her work will still see the light of day as an image album or some such.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

They are just shifting resources so they can get FFXIII out faster than trying to work on both at the same time. This means a much sooner FFXIII and a slightly later FFXIII Versus rather than both of them coming out later.

This is good news, not bad news.

According to Eurogamer, this is false:

Quote:
Square Enix has rubbished suggestions that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold.

"Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false," the publisher said in a statement passed on to Eurogamer.

"The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."

Well, that's a relief. Still, my rant on the previous post still stands. Even if its not halted, the games are gonna take god knows when to come out, since they don't even have a "coming in 2009 or 2010" statement, meaning they have no time frame whatsoever.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

So, although your original point was built on factually wrong data, it's still right?

That's bullshit I think. Square Enix thinks with their money instead of loyalty, which is now the norm sadly these days. Unfortunate I think. Meh whatever.

CRYING ABOUT FFXIII NOT BEING EXCLUSIVE TO PS3?!!!!!

ok.

It's either Sony pays enough to Square for exclusive rights, or Square goes multi-platform, which is the smarter thing to do.

I finished watching M$ Conference and it's real/confirmed. Stupid M$ didn't allow the camera crew to zoom in on the footage (it stated in the livefeed).

So it looks like I don't need to buy a PS3 to play FF13.

Explain to me how it harms anyone for a game to be on multiple systems.

I guess the big whoop is that Sony is fucked now or something because they don't have exclusivity rights for FFXIII, so whatever it could have contributed in sales for the PS3 is now pointless.

Even if they go timed exclusive 360 owners can just wait.

I loled at the camera angle requested by Microsoft due to fears of their obvious imperfections and made it impossible to see anything other than character close-ups.

Why you got to be so secretive and not give us a direct feed?

I'll be buying a 360 next week now. Not that I won't buy FFXIII on the PS3, but this is proof that the 360 will be the dominant consoles from RPGs and there's no longer anything Sony can do about it.

Sony, you're doing it wrong. Sorry.

edit// Also begin multi-disc jokes NOW.

One of the reasons I'm kind of disappointed with this is that knowing Square, they will probably make a shorter, less involved game opposed to release a 2-4 disc game for the 360's sake. Blu-ray's capabilities just aren't going to be put to use in this game. Hardware and such isn't that much of a concern since we know the PS3 isn't that much more powerful than the 360 (at this point in time.)

Oh well, it's a Nomura game so I guess it was going to suck anyway. That's the only way to make myself feel better about this.

Oh, then I guess the only real issue is it killing PS3 in America since didn't they announce it would not be coming to Japan's 360?

but lol who cares about Japan

I was surprised seeing that it would be out on launch, if it was coming out on 360, I thought it would've been months after it launches on ps3.

I wonder if this includes versus as well.

edit: nvm about the japan thing, thought it was worldwide, but only for NA and Europe.

Well because kids who can only afford one console and have a weird, desperate desire to confirm that they picked the best one, can no longer use the game as an argument gambit against their equally tragic friends who bought the rival console.

wow this is surprising. I invested on the ps3 thinking it would have some nice exclusives and here I am now being kicked in the crotch by it.
Sure it's a smart move by square, getting the game out to everyone but even so I'm still getting it for ps3 since I don't want to get an xbox and i don't care much for it's exclusives either.
360 has never been the strongest at rpg's either so maybe this will help as well

well 360 has actually been THE console to have this generation. For some reason I hardly count the wii as a console. Just a minigame for the family.
Although the rpg category hasn't really been all that strong. All I can really think of is lost odyssey and eternal sonada and I don't even know the plot to those except the whole memory thing. Mostly a generation of FPS

Hardware and such isn't that much of a concern since we know the PS3 isn't that much more powerful than the 360 (at this point in time.)
So, elaborating on that point a little, a few developers have been utilizing specialized teams to work on multi-console releases; Developer A for one console, B for another console, so on and so forth, to help take advantage of each system's strengths.

Will Square-Enix be doing that? Lord knows they have enough in-house talent to do so. Though, I can't help but feel a little disheartened that, despite their being any previous proof to the contrary, FFXIII will come up a little short of set expectations, as it now has to be one multiple discs and from previous game releases, we can bet Microsoft won't allow FFXIII to require a hard drive for installation purposes.

Expectations have been lowered, but enthusiasm still remains high.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

There hasn't been an RPG console yet. Largely because no one's released a decent RPG since for next gen consoles.

Multiplatform is not a bad idea. Though it'll be interesting to see how they factor in the blu-ray to not blu-ray transfer on this one.

Also, FF XIII. Who cares which console your esper becomes a bike on? Won't make it any less depressing and Nomura-ridden.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
