If you're interested in some more symphonic stuff, try out Rhapsody or, to a lesser degree, Blind Guardian.

I have both those bands, and I especially LOVE Blind Guardian. I'm going to a concert of their's this November, already have my tickets .

Angra, Epica, Haggard, Sonata Arctica, & Within Temptation are the only other symphonic bands that come to mind that I have, apart from Nightwish, BG, & Rhapsody.

I am a complete sucker for the epic feel, I love having that in a song .

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Dark Moor, Bal Sagoth, Fairyland, Hollenthon, Thy Majestie, Wuthering Heights and recent Therion. =)

I'm not sure I'll like 80's Priest as much as I liked 70's Priest. I'm totally in love with Sad Wings of Tragedy, while British Steel ... Totally love some stuff from Painkiller, though, but I've had that one for a while.

Finally got the 2 Lord Baltimore albums this morning, so it'll be on today's playlist. Dio I've gotten into already as I'm in love with his voice, but I'll sure check on everything else you mentionned. =)

I'll second the Running Wild. Jag Panzer was pretty good, but didn't really have a lot of variety.

Just listened to Running Wild's Gate of Purgatory, and meh ... I dunno, it's cool to headbang for 60 minutes straight, but I didnt notice a single actually catchy melody or anything ... Same went for Saxon, eventhough I liked it better.

Iron Maiden I'm starting to hook, though I still don't what's the huge deal about it. =p

Black Sabbath albums sung by RJ Dio rawk, especially Heaven and Hell. <3

Running Wild got a lot better after a few albums. They're sort of like Death in that they never really fulfilled their potential until a few albums into their career.

Not all Hardcore bands are like that. Walls of Jericho for instance, I'm sure they don't have a single scenester in the group.

So all this talk about Helloween made me go back and listen to Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II, which I had for years and didn't like for some reason. Now I think it's pretty bad ass. At the same time, I go to listen to a Flotsam and Jetsam album that I have had for awhile and start to dig on that. Good stuff.

Someone mentioned Unearth, I really dig those guys, one of the few metalcore bands that I can stand.

Thy Majestie has actually kind of put me off, save for a few songs. (Demons on the Crown is kickass ) They have absolutely disgusting compositional skills. There is NO unifying theme in any of their songs, they seem to be randomly arranged on the album without thought as to what will provide an enjoyable listening experience, it's ultimately way too chaotic.

It's like they were disgusted with the current trend of over-simplistic music to repeat a chorus 50 billion times, but they took it to an opposite extreme which is just as bad.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

You should check out Kamelot also then. Great syphonic epic metal band. I just bought their album Epica and it's quite amazing.

I know it's probably horrible to bring up, but I bought another Marilyn Manson cd, and it's actually really good. I love industrial elements brought into metal.

Yeah, I wasn't as complete as I meant to be. All the albums sound different from eachother, but all the songs on each album sound the same as the others on that album. There are of course exceptions, but a lot of them sound pretty similar.

That said, the only one I remember really well is Thane; I haven't listened to the others in a couple of years. Actually I'm gonna go dig those up and make sure I'm not off-base.

RAZGRIZ, I disagree, but do check out The Age of Mastery. It's not necessarily my favourite Jag Panzer album but it's probably one of their more diverse.

For more kick-ass US power/heavy metal, try Manilla Road (Mystification, Crystal Logic are those I heard) and The Lord Weird Slough Feg (Down Among the Deadmen, Twilight of the Idols, Atavism).

I haven't read all the posts but these are the bands I listen to this day.

Iron Maiden(I got into this one cause of Carmagedden 2)

Rhapsody(How many names do they fricken have? Got into this one cause of stepmania)

AC/DC(Do they even count as metal? I aint sure but I am positive. I'm a bit rusty.)

Alien Ant Farm

Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne

Def Leppard

Demons and Wizards

Dragon Hammer

Dragon Force

Dragon Heart

Dragon Land

Godsmack

Judas Priest(Very limited though. Though I should probaly go buy more MP3s at 10 cents[Or about a buck - buck thirty depnding on how many songs the album is but they usually make it about 30 cents or more cheaper then to buying each song])

Megadeth

The Scorpions(Is it The Scorpions or Scorpion Cover?)

And about the Iron Maiden, have you tried sonds like When Two worlds collide, Dance of Death, Man on the Edge, or even Be quick or be dead? I have many others, if you hit me up on aim, msn or yahoo I could hook you up with some.

And if anyone is interested in any of those bands I'll be glad to give you a few songs and if you like, zip up the whole folder I have of them and send them your way. Just contact me on AIM, Yahoo or MSN I'll be glad to expand your band selection.

I love power, speed, symphonic metal and brittish metal. I do not mind some heavy or thrash(the only thrash band I ever liked is Megadeth).

I was speaking idiomatically.

I believe the general consenous here is that AC/DC is not metal but hard rock.

Number of bands I listen to with "Dragon" in their name: None, thank christ. I am proud of this. Also, "British" has one T. Furthermore, Kill Our-songs-are-all-identical-force and listen to Blind Guardian.

I just got the new Tarot album - The gap between the single and the album was horrible. ;_; Anyone who follows Blind Guardian will know the score.

Yeah there are a number of them, trust me there are like 30 bands but the ones I listed are the only good ones as metal wise.

I don't know how many people in this thread are into stoner/doom metal, but Krelian's dragon comment has reminded me of a great band from Argentina called Dragonauta who just put out a new record I still have to pick up.

Anyone else into this genre?
