While that's partly true, Jack was the reason why he chose to go back to drinking. While it was his choice to decide to drink, Jack was the catalyst.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

This isn't brilliant, and especially not because it is over 3 seasons. They're just stretching out the same basic character profile longer and longer.
God, I am so glad someone said this. My friends have been hawing over this fact for a while now, and I find absolutely nothing significant about it. Who cares. We already kind of FIGURED (or so I assume most people did) that Jack had a hand in his father's death indirectly.

It's not Jack's fault his father is a fucking lunatic drunk who can't exercise self constraint. Jack didn't kill his father - his father killed himself.

Incidentally, I don't like where season 3 is going already. I am so disinterested in the other survivors (Jin, Sun, Sayid) and not interested enough in the Others with their plans for Jack, Kate and Sawyer.

Yea, okay. Some experiments. Like we didn't see that one coming. It's pretty predictable at this point, and I will stand by that statement until I am proven wrong. Seriously. We get that everything is connected. We know that Sawyer is a good guy in bad guy clothing. We know Jack is a bumbling fool who doesn't know everything. We know Kate is torn. GET ON WITH IT.

I don't recall a single instant in the Season 3 premiere where Jack's dad was portrayed as anything but a calm, rational professional. On the other hand, Jack physically assaults him to the point he lands in jail. This episode is where the tables were turned - in the past Jack was the more professional, "together" one and his father was the one who was behaving inappropriately and unprofessionally. In the premiere we saw last week, Jack was once again the foil to his father, but their roles were reversed. Just another interesting technique - basically it sounds like there are those who enjoy such things and those who are made impatient by them. To each his own.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'll be honest, I havent read all 25 pages of this thread, but I just wanted to say a few things about lost.

I LOVED the new episode and im really annoyed that the British have to wait a few more months before its shown on TV here. Luckily we commit piracy like fat kids eat butter, so within 12 hours of it being released we were all sitting in my mates room watching it on his massive plasma TV! I really thought the new episode started with such a kick. The plane crash and then showing so much about the others. I really liked that and it was a good kick start to the new series.

Few questions though, what did they do to Kate? She looked really ashamed when she was put in that cage after the beach breakfast. I have a theory that they have either raped her or impregnated her to carry on the civilisation, because im pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere that the others dont have their own children, which the radiation from the magnet may have caused, I dont know though.

Another thing is why is Jack being kept underground while the other 2 are allowed to see daylight. My theory is that they are trying to break all 3 of them completely. Jack eventually became obidient to that woman, and Sawyer was shamed because he finally worked out how to get the fish biscuit, but was told the bears worked it out in 2 hours. Im really looking forward to seeing whats gonna happen, as it is one awesome taster for the new series. Its been nearly a year since the last series was over, and now I want it!!! Lets all bow our heads and pray for a fookin awesome series 3.

I found tonight's episode slightly boring. The Sun and Jin flashback was kind of nice since it gave closure to the slightly dangling Jae plot thread from season 2, but besides that there wasn't all that much going on.

And then, of course, the episode pulls out all of the stops: the Others are on the island of their own free will? They have contact with the outside world? What the hell?

I get more annoyed with the Others with every passing episode but they're just too damn good a mystery to completely hate.

Oh, and I have to give props to Sun for firing on that woman. That was cool.

I was speaking idiomatically.

The Red Sox thing literally made me have an orgasm. My god that was AWESOME.

Great episode, overall. Liked it alot more than the premiere. Next week looks to be spectacular as well!

In the past two episodes, Sawyer has been simply amazing. I can't wait for his flashback this season.

I really do feel that the writers have strengthen the flashbacks in these last two episodes, and I hope they continue with the strong dialogue.

The whole Alex thing is a huge question mark, but at least they haven't forgotten about the character. I don't know how she fits in all of this (especially her mother), but it's going to be exciting to finally find out her true intentions.

Great episode. Especially the last 5 minutes. I'm glad they didn't do the "last second twist" deal and actually gave time to the scene. It really did make all the difference.

In Jack's defense, as much as I dislike his character, who wouldn't get as angry as he did? Sure, he was a little paranoid about his wife and her newly-discovered lover being his father. But really, would you put it beyond his father to do that?

I'm sorry, but the poor man (Jack's dad) strikes me as a less-than-stable kind of guy. Especially the ethics he showed with showing up drunk in an OR.

Incidentally, tonight's episode shed some light on the situation for me. I liked the whole bit where Henry Gale AKA Ben sat down and gave Jack some information. I appreciated that a lot - I was actually touched when he outstretched a shake of the hand to Jack. I understand why Jack didn't shake back, but I would have been courteous enough to do it.

I also loved the Red Sox bit in there. They couldn't have appeased us New England fans any more than they did with that stunt.

Chris was watching it with my father and I and he totally called the whole "I have proof of the Red Sox winning." He saw the DVD coming. (Probably because he saw the TV in the background being wheeled in?)

Also, I like how we know now that the world outside of the Island is still moving. I had a theory that the world DIDN'T exist outside of the island - but it looks like it does - unless there's an elaborate scheme going on to trick us.

I also LOVED the bit with Sawyer dumping his water. I was so worried he would accept a drink from that behavioralist bitch. Instead, he dumped it out in front of her, looked at Kate and thought "Aw, maybe she could have used some," and then attacked her lovingly. (Just to test the guards.)

I fucking LOVE Sawyer. <3

I'll tell you why Season 3 is full of win right now. It's because it's gotten back to the survival aspect of the show. No more sitting comforable in a ventalated room pushing a button all day, while eating real food and showering. Now we're back to the characters fearing for their lives, getting down and dirty in the worst way. Blowing that hatch up couldn't have happened sooner.

Henry Gale (now christened Benjamin Linus) is the highlight of Season 3 so far. Looking forward to the next episode (monster's finally back?).

Well, my favorite part of this episode was the fact that Ben no longer was being all "I'm a creepy evil guy."

Instead, he actually said, "THE FIRST THING I SHOULD PROBABLY DO IS BE HONEST WITH YOU"

Fucking finally. I mean, we all know that the Others aren't completely bad, and there's going to be some twist where the audience goes "ohhhh, we were wrong the whole time."

So essentially I want to start seeing some progress on the "not good, not evil, but in-between" front where Ben starts explaining what the hell they've been doing on the island instead of just having fights with the Losties (which frankly we could see on any other prison show).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

True, but I hope that all turns out to be in line with their "plan." After all, Ben did notice that Kate liked Sawyer better than Jack, and if they didn't want them to interact they wouldn't have had them working together...

The Red Sox reference was the highlight of the episode - Mainly because Jack's dad says something along the lines of "...and that's why the Red Sox will never win the world series" in a season one episode.

WEEEEEIRD, though, what with Ben having lived on the island since

I liked the fact that Alex showed up. She was once a part of the others when Kate was kidnapped and the guy dubbed "Zeke" said "Bring her out, Alex". So apparently they found out something and she's hiding from them. Are they trying to replace Alex with Kate? Plus she has some connection, probably a love interest with that Carl guy that was in Kate's cage before he ran away. I liked this episode.

Actually, I found this to be a filler episode much like the ones somewhere in the middle of season two. I mean, seriously, they stretch the episode with flashbacks and meaningless conversations on the island not really clearing anything up. And then the last five minutes, just to keep us interested they throw in some very VAGUE new information. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

I wanna know what's happening back on the beach with John and Eko and Hurley (who was supposed to go back and tell everyone about what happened).

Also, I'm very interested in what Locke's role is going to be in this season. He was so dedicated to his button, but now that the hatch and the button are gone, he's not gonna sit on the beach all day long...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The next episode, "Further Instructions", is going to reveal the fates of Locke, Eko and Desmond, and have Hurley return to the main group of Losties (as well as, by all accounts, feature further Locke flashbacks).

Well, I'm still afraid of the direction this season is going. There simply must not be a fourth season, so they have to wrap everything up now, and they're being very slow about it. Every episode, I ask myself what new information I have learned, and it's almost always close to none.

I feel similarly, but you know as well as I do that there will be a 4th season (and most likely a 5th as well).

Alias was dragged on in the same way, but at least the different missions (that related to the story arc, not the standalone ones) made it seem like some sort of progress was being made.

I've heard tell of there being a contract for 5 seasons, with the final ending being the season 5 finale.

I've also heard a theory that John will join the Others in search of answers. I think it's believable. He needs something to satisfy his lust for knowledge, and to finally put an end to his questions.

I have a feeling these six episodes will be focusing on the six characters away from the island, and they're happenings with the others. Come february will be when we go back to the Beach, and hear about all the other characters.

One last thing
enraging:
am i the only one who was pissed off at how the others managed to get onto the boat? Sayid is like a freaking special ops agent, with all the military knowhow. How the heck did six of the others get passed him and Jin.

Also w00t to
Spoiler:
Sun killing (i hope) that one woman from the Others. I could tell if they followed her at all i wasn't going to like her.
