Man, the PSP scene has MAJORLY taken the fuck off in less than a year. In December 2005, people with 2.01 and above were completely out of luck as far as homebrew went. Look at it now - emulated firmware, UMD images on 2.60, full custom firmwares...

I find it halerious in a Gallows Humor sort of way that the only reason anyone's realy giving a damn towords the PSP now is due to the fact that the PSX Virtual Console got cacked.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
All I'm saying is that if the laptops of the future are not in the

Awesome. It worked flawlessly. Thanks a lot! Now time to upgrade his to the 3.02 OE-B custom firmware...

No need for gallows humor, really. The PSP has a nice library of excellent games by now and is very well established as a worthy competitor to Nintendo's DS.

Homebrew and the PSone emulator are just another argument in favor of the PSP. In other news, TA-082 mainboard PSPs are now downgradable to 1.50 (and then upgradable to 3.02 OE-B).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have a TA-082 PSP and this just made my night. However, I updated my PSP to 2.80 a bit ago to play Ace Combat. Is it possible to downgrade to 2.71 and do this or am I shit out of luck?

Hmm forgive me if this is the wrong place, but I had PSP game question. My Wipeout Pure game...it seems to have a loading problem. Now, when I first got it for christmas, it loaded up fine. When I downloaded the packs from the wipeout pure site and on PSP hacks, I started the game up. Now i'm having an issue with it loading. In the beginning of the game right before the title screen...the loading page...sort of freezes for a couple of seconds. after a few seconds, it starts back up to normal loading. I'm just wondering though...does it have to do with the packs that I got, and if so..is there a way around it?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Load the game without the memory card. See if it loads. If it does, there may be corrupted data in your stick.

I upgraded to 3.02 OE-B yesterday. My PSP was still at 1.5. I'm waiting on a larger memory stick to get here from Amazon.com tomorrow so I can try out some PSX games. I had Tactics Ogre running last night. It's the only game I have that's small enough to fit on a 256 meg stick.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I remembering hearing that Sony wanted to release an 8gb pro duo memory stick by the end of this year. Did that ever happen?

Also, Engadget is talking about PSP2, and how it may be getting a 60gb hardrive. I wonder when/if they will actually come out with the second PSP?

A 60 gig HD would be so far beyond necessary for your everyday consumer that it's not even funny. Especially a new one that's just been released. If the PSP did get an HD upgrade it would most likely be to something along the lines of a 20 gig one. A good size for your average consumer that Sony wont have to worry about a high price tag for.

That aside what's the best site for easy to sift through PSP upgrade news? I got mine on launch (firmware 1.50) and have been so satisfied with it as a portable NES I haven't bothered to attempt, well, anything. I just saw that the PS1 emulation has been hacked (!)

More likely is 8GB of NAND flash considering recent developments in that field. Integrated camera is likely, too (WHY).

As for news, files, etc - PSPupdates on the QJ network has everything you need. Warning, though: Their community is SCUM. They also have a very hypocritical, wishy-washy piracy policy which seems to change every few weeks.

Looks like I'm joining the club. =D

I just got my 2.80 non TA-082 mobo PSP from my friend on wednesday. Just 2 days earlier, the 2.80>1.50 downgrader was released. Though I was REALLY apprehensive, I took the dive anyway, and though my heart was beating through my chest, it worked flawlessly. I was on 1.50fw for about a day, then decided to jump up to 3.02OE-B, mainly because the dh was getting too damn annoying. NOOOOOOOOWWW, I just need to get a 1/2 gig stick, cuz 512 sucks. I just skimmed through the last page of this thread. Question: I'm able to play PSP ISOs through my computer, did I get that correct?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yup, that's what my cousin tells me... if you use these two files:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=68711 (USBhostfs)
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/964 (IRSHELL)

edit: Here's a good tutorial - slight variation: http://www.homebrewhowto.com/psp-iso...-tutorial.html

edit2: I just tried it via Devhook - USB enable + USBhostfs. It works perfectly. I was playing Lumines via my usb.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I must say this: Good things come to those who wait.

last summer when I bought my 2.60 TA-082 motherboard I thought I had just wasted a good $200 dollars on a non-homebrew capable psp.

I decided to upgrade to 2.71, the highest firmware at the time, and just give into Sony's desire for me to update all the time...

BUT NO, I got my hope back and waited and sure enough TA-082 motherboards on 2.71 (and below) can now be downgraded to 1.50 and have full homebrew capabilities.

Best day of my PSP life when this became possible.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Has anyone sucessfully loaded PSOne ISOs onto their PSP's and played them yet? I'm confused as hell as to how to begin to approach the method of doing it. I'll take to newbie way out, and ask for a tutorial for my lazy ass.

Oh one more thing too, if I were to install Dark Alex's custom amazing firmware, can I upgrade the firmware later? How does this whole flashing thing work?

Yup, I've been playing FFVIII on my PSP for almost a week now, it's been running perfectly - except for a few crashes (common to all FFVIII ISOs, however).

If you install the firmware, you can use the Recovery to go back to 1.5 so it isn't a problem.

Here's a tutorial: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=40046 If you have questions, just ask in that forum. They're not as ignorant as we are =(
