Wow. The final episode was pretty sick. Different but sick lol. After the confession and Near's thoughts about Yagami, the rest of the dialogue differs fro mthe manga but I liked the way it ended. Not bad at all. I only wish they showed the whole last chapter but that didn't happen. Few things :

Spoiler:

1. You'll get to see Misa about the commit suicide or at least in thought as she's dressed in her "Loli" crap outfit.
2. Mikami killed himself O_O . And damn I haven't seen such a suicide since a few weird/bloody animes back in the 90's
3. L showed up in front of Yagami when he was dying.

Just awesome but I really wanted to see the last chapter animated. Well I guess that about really ENDS Death Note. Now to watch Hitman Reborn as it remains to be alive with other SJ titles.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

did you watch the raw version? So far Rubiera are only a few hours from getting it done...

EDIT: oh, nevermind. They have it up now.

Ahhhhhh it's over, it was good while it lasted. After watching it all I have to say my favourite episode is the one with Ray Penber's wife, the last image is pretty awesome. Does anyone know the name of the piece of music playing over the credits at the end, it was pretty sick.

How ya doing, buddy?

I think its on the last OST which I'm uploading for all of you (Nipponsei Release =] ). It's called "Coda" Death Note Track. The song felt like that one scene in Evangelion where the 12th angel was going to die. Overall, it was great and that's that. I noticed how each seiyuu put all that dramatic effort into the last episode. Now i have to see this subbed so I know wtf was going on in the last few mins. Also, someone from another forum said that there's going to be another DN Episode Special. Mostly about the final chapter and maybe a few added goodies. Heh, I'd rather have it to be a 45 min special with the How to Read DN vol 13 or whatever.

I'll edit in 8 short mins for the third OST.

EDIT: Upload done.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/w42dxv

You know something bugs me.

Spoiler:
When Mikami killed himself, did Yagami already planned for him to just commit suicide? Sounds weird but by the look of Light, he showed no reaction and just left like that.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

see the link in my above post, Rubiera has it done in good video/sub quality.

episode 37:
To answer your question, no, I dont think he had Mikami written down. He just used Mikami, like he used everybody else...which is why he shows no emotion when Mikami dies. You also have to remember that Light hit rock bottom there, too.

Oh, and can someone explain Mello's involvement in the whole thing? How did he save Near and help break the case? Cal me an idiot but I found it was a bit unclear =/

When Mello kidnapped Takada, this forced Mikami to make an extra trip to his bank to get the death note and kill her.

Gevanni saw this as wierd, followed him and that's when they found the real note book.

It's unclear if Mello knew all of this, but Lights original plan would of worked flawlessly if Mello hadn't done the kidnapping.

EDIT: And thanks for the third OST Chato, been waiting for it for a while.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well, I was somewhat dissapointed with the ending. I think Episode 36 was more exciting than this.

Spoiler:
I was really looking foward to Ryuk killing Light right in front of him and seeing Light's reaction to that. The small changes they made otherwise weren't bad, like when Light ran out of the warehouse. Although the moment I saw that and Near decided not to go, it was made clear that I wouldn't get the ending I wanted.

thanks black100. That makes a lot of sense.

episode 37:
Yeah, they changed things up a bit..apparently the manga ending had it so Light was screaming like a complete baby and begging Ryuk to save him, but I kind of like the anime version..it's much more sympathetic to his character; especially whe he sees his past self and the man he's now become. Ryuk's final lines were also much cooler. "We killed some boredom, didn't we?...it was fun while it lasted" or something like that. From what I hear, the manga showcases him as a whiny bitch, but the anime showed him more as a stubborn, pathetic fool. Poetic justice at its finest.

Although I did read up on one change that I wish they would have kept in, and thats when Mikami says "You...you are not god!" But if they did, it wouldn't make much sense for him to kill himself later on. Still, it was cool on having the blind follower call out on how fake Kira is.

As for nitpicks at the anime itself, Near's speech about Kira being a mass murder instead of justice was also kind of bleh, it could have been handled much better if they talked about his corruption instead. I also ifnd the deus ex machina kind of ridiculous...Giovanni made an exact carbon copy of Mikami's death note in one night?

Oh, and thanks for uploading the third OST, i've been waiting for it for quite a while. Unfortunately, a lot of themes are recycled over and over again with minimal changes--both from the previous albums and from the tracks within that album (Near's themes, Light's themes..). Kind of a disappointment, but there are some stellar tracks on there (Mikami's Concertino, Coda~Death Note, Mello no Theme (IMO), etc.).

I was speaking idiomatically.

Right on the mark, p. I wasn't too disappointed but its what you would expect from a second arc that didn't go anywhere according to "True DN Fans expectations" or whatever they want to be called. It is nice listening to Aya Hirano's singing at least .

@sacred X

Spoiler:

It wasn't really too bad. The rest of the original scene from chapter 106 and 107 was in that warehouse. It would've been cool to see him beg at ryuk but even I accepted the anime's version where he ran and laid there with a heart attack via Ryuk and his death note. It could've been worse and ended with Light winning instead. That's why in return, they had Light run scared as shit and saw himself walk pass by him.

I think you'd find most Japanese anime series ending in tragic deaths or morbidly depressing scenes. Somehow they like butchering people into crying after endings.

I think Japanese people cry too much in general though. Like WTF is the point in crying at your graduation? Anyhow...yeah episode 37: I'll just note I'm not too disappointed.

I might go back and go read the manga or something. If it's only 12 volumes it'll cost me roughly $9 or so to finish the series (local manga-rental stores FTW!).

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I initially was very disappointed with the ending, but after watching it a few more times, I like it a lot better than how the manga ended.

Spoiler:
I thought it was better to have Light go out like a "whiny bitch" initially. I mean, he's pretty much NEVER experienced defeat, and the only time he experienced minor defeat earlier on, he threw a hissy fit. It showed just how much he breaks down when he loses, how much his "dream" of a perfect world meant to him. But after seeing the anime ending enough times, I like it better. It really ties viewers better on an emotional level, feeling sorry for all that Light has lost that he's worked so hard to gain. I certainly didn't want him to lose, even after knowing what was going to happen.

Thanks Chato for putting up the soundtrack I love that death note coda that piece of music really made the ending for me it's great. The string section playing that little death note riff at the end is just so awesome

so i just watched the last 2 episodes and I honestly liked the way it ended

Spoiler:
From what I can see they did it in the anime so that kira would die secluded taking his last steps outside into the world unlike the manga where he just died in the abandoned building being played out by ryuuk.
Mikami killed himself hara kiri style instead of calling kira trash and whatnot, but I think it was good twist from the manga becuase Mikami saw his "god" fall into the ground groveling and pathetic realizing that his wasted his time with his fake god and just couldn't take it since he really believed kira to be the god he was searching for.

I think some dialog should have been kept from the manga to the anime but overall the series was awesome and shall remain in my hard drive after many other anime's come and go.

Spoiler:
after thinking on it more, I think I see Mikami's motivations for killing himself in the anime more. Well, there's two theories I can't decide between. His "God" had just asked for help, and all he could think to do was kill himself to give Light a chance to escape. Maybe even after all that had happened, he still worshipped him, and was mortified at the mistake he had made, causing his God to fall. Or, he was despairing at seeing his God fall, maybe realizing Kira wasn't all he thought he was cracked up to be, and killed himself in remorse. Maybe a combination of both those =/. Not really sure. All I know is that events didn't play out as they did in the manga, and I think I'm liking the anime ending better.

I had thought the same thing about your first theory when I first saw it
Spoiler:
but I'm pretty sure that mikami killed himself because he idolized kira as god and since he saw him in his most desperate situation all the purpose he had towards him fell.
In the manga he just threw a few words at light pointing out that he had wasted his time with him so in the anime they just took it the step further and made his mental state alot weaker resulting to his suicide. Even tho some dialog is missing from the manga its still pretty much pointed out in the anime.

An example of this would be when rem spoke her final words in the manga "you have surpassed a death god", which was not spoken in the anime.

Spoiler:
shenlon - something i just thought of now. Might he have killed himself because his "God" had just told him "I don't even know you!"? There's some verse in the Bible that says somethign to the extent of God saying "Depart from me, I never knew you" to those who tried to "buy" their way into heaven. Maybe it's a kind of parallelism with that idea. Mikami had "failed" Light. Realising he had failed his God, and that his God had told him that, he killed himself. I don't know. More than likely, the anime was meant to portray the same emotions that the manga had, but it didn't quite come across clearly =/. Regardless, I guess it's not vital to the story and it is still my all-time fav anime ever .

you are probably right though in that the same mental state that was in the manga was meant to be potrayed in the anime

Well, I just finished volume 12 of the manga. It was quite an ending, and despite the rumors that it ended prematurely (or the author grew bored and wanted it to end) I thought it was overall done quite well. Now for all those questions I've got!

Anyone know when VIZ will release volume 13: How to Read? I can't remember where I read it, but there's a nasty rumor that it won't be out until February!!? I can't believe I'd have to wait that long.....or maybe there are scans or translations out there somewhere?

>_<

That's what I've been looking for,but still no luck. I only found a few scans that revealed some things that happened to a few characters.Viz needs to release not only How to Read but the One Shot Pilot and the story of L and Naomi case.

Maybe you can check out TownL but I doubt they ever worked on it. I guess they'll do anything to keep death note from dying another year @.@.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

So... L-movie, anybody?
(click on the bottom left-hand button for a mock-up of the preview).
Coming to Japanese theatres February 9th, 2008 T_T.

I'm not sure that I like this idea, but whatever. Apparently it's just going to examine L's history and stuff, most likely pre-Death Note.

I feel like it actually went on a bit longer than necessary, so I was glad when it ended where it did. I'm so used to SJ titles being forced into 25+ volume series that DN was a nice change of pace, at 12 volumes.

I haven't been too motivated to post it for I have less interest in it. But I guess I can think of this more like the L spinoff from the manga (bb serial killer case which i haven't read yet) . Well...I don't want to. It's only a matter of time when they make a movie out of 'How to Read 13" -_-. I'm not even anticipating this special that's coming up on the 31st as well. I'd rather have them animate the One Shot Pilot arc. It was just too fast to end. At least other SJ animes are hanging in there ^^. Naruto and Bleach don't count.

Few things :

Swaile is well-known as an anime voice actor, having voiced Quatre in Gundam Wing, Dearka in Gundam Seed, and Rock in Black Lagoon. Juliani has also contributed his voice to numerous cartoons, videogames and anime, but has recently moved into a career as an actor. He is currently featured in the science fiction television series Battlestar Galactica, playing Lt. Gaeta.

Brian Drummond (Allen in The Vision of Escaflowne; Andy Waltfeld in Gundam Seed) will play Ryuk, while the voice actor for Misa will be Shannon Chan-Kent. Additional voice actors lending their voices to this dub will include:

Rem: Colleen Wheeler
Soichiro Yagami: Chris Britton
Matsuda: Vincent Tong
Mogi: John Murphy
Raye Penber: Michael Adamthwaite
Aizawa: Trevor Devall
Ukita: Jeremy From
Naomi Misora: Tabitha St. Germain
Ide: Brian Dobson

Several of these names were first announced at the Ocean Studios panel at Vancouver's Anime Evolution convention, which was held on August 18-20. At the panel, Ocean representatives also mentioned that they had dubbed twelve episodes of Death Note so far, and that the roles of Near and Mello were not yet cast. The first volume of Death Note will go on sale on November 20.
Out of the whole bunch, I notice only 2 legends from Ocean Group in this dub cast. Brian Drummond has always impressed me so this should kick ass. Everyone else are babies in a nutshell so we may not be happy with this . Light yagami's dub voice proves our point so far. Swaile needs to work a little more on Light if he wants me to buy the dvd. Which is a shock cause I always respected him when he played the role of Quatre(GW) and other characters like Otau Mamiya (Saber Marionette J-whatever)

The next thing I want to mention is that the RAW for that DN special came out 3 days ago. Was anyone able to see it ?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
