Nice bounceback week. Everything was pretty much agreeable, though I wouldn't deem anything incredible. Sorry I'm making comments short this week.
(3 points) Yussa Yussa You: Something about it I really appreciate. Maybe it's the groovin'. (1 point) Batman - Gotham City and Cathedral: Very solid NES work. Better yet, its synths don't betray it whatsoever. (1 point) Street Fighter EX - Precious Heart: I'll take overbaked jazz most any time. Hell, I worship the F-Zero Jazz Arrangement CD, and this song is basically the same style. (1 point) Like Life - Decoy: The string synth is the best of the whole thing and earns it a point. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

This week deserves a little of my time.
<2 points> Darwinia (Game Rip) - Impact of Silence: This Silent Hill-esque track is the most developed piece of the eight ones, and counts with a great atmosphere too. <1 point> Shadowgate 64 - Trials of the Four Towers (N64 Game Rip) - Tower of Lakmir: It's hard to get into this one, in part due to a "peculiar" instrumentation and awkward composition. Enjoyable thanks to its uniqueness. <1 point> Street Fighter EX2 - PRECIOUS HEART (Sakura): In the line of the rest of _DH_'s nominations, which is a very good thing. Not an accident that the future husband had reaped so many golds, we are going to miss his nominations. Sakura can be a conventional 80's sax song, but a solid one. <1 point> Kyusai no Giho (Technique of Relief) - Mother: I am familiar with Susumu Hirasawa's Berserk OST which I appreciate quite a bit (Gats theme is awesome). This composer has a very distinctive style and not the most accessible one, anyway I know too well the messy sound and ethnic singing and I like it. <1 point> Like Life Original Soundtrack - Decoy: It has been hard to choose between all the remaining noms but Decoy just has a superb atmosphere. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

On a more negative side of things, I honestly thought the Street Fighter track was the worst track this week. Seeing Tower of Lakmir and Mother do poorly was disappointing as well. Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten Original Soundtrack - Ryuichi Naruhodo ~ Objection! 2001 My favorite soundtrack of all time has not a single song longer than 3 minutes, and only 4 tracks longer than 2 minutes. I appreciate short songs for what they do, and Objection! 2001 does this in spades. Composition wise, it does absolutely nothing unique, but it was damn well enjoyable and really awesome at the same time, like a compressed form of awesome. I'm pleasantly surprised to see a lack of flack against this track. I honestly thought it was going to do worse, simply for the length. Still, I was the only person to give this 3 points, as predicted. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |

Nice fight...I had no idea Batman was that damn close and I was almost sure Yussa was neck and neck with Precious Heart. If a couple votes had gone differently...
As is, I have a legitimate reason to participate in the next Battle. Aside from the Street Fighter comment, I agree with a lot of what Darkcomet said in his post...Many of my favorite tracks are extremely short (45 seconds or so, prior to a loop) and I tend to think of them as being "as long as they need to be" as opposed to being short. Newer and longer versions of Bloody Tears for example have yet to touch the awesomeness of the NES original to me (including most of the all-out arrangements). Just like Objection 2001 was legitimately more enjoyable than 5/8 of the other tracks this week, despite Truth syndrome and length. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Basic guidelines for nominating:
A track might be rejected if it's believed to be from a work that is too well known. The more obscure, the more preferred, although it is only necessary that a song isn't uber popular. Tracks that sit on the fence are discussed for eligibility. Once you have a track selected, please include any information you can on it including (the obvious) track name, full album title, disc number, track number, artist, year. Possibly the catalog number and a source to verify the information. Name, album, and track/disc number will do if you don't feel like filling out the rest. Finding a way to upload your track would be nice, too. There's a ftp for this particular purpose but I'm not sure of what the address is on that. Also, if a track from (insert album here) ranks either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, that album is restricted from nomination for a set amount of weeks (12, 8, 4). Voting rules: You have six points to distribute. No track can receive more than 3 points and you can not give out 3 points each to 2 tracks. Here are all the possible point spreads. 3, 2, 1 3, 1, 1, 1 2, 2, 1, 1 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 1 , 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 That's all you need to know, good to have another participant. EDIT: Go ahead and wait on a nomination until the next week's voting thread is up, though. Once the winners are announced the queue is locked up to preserve the spot of the next 8 nominators. Since you are a brand new participant, your song will jump to the top of the list. Nice to see that Batman placed (SotW needs more quality NES love). I thought Yussa Yussa was way in the lead actually, so seeing the Street Fighter song beat it was a surprise.
