fire up ms paint I have a few ideas for a sloppily constructed macro that suggests that the internet often argues about something other than the point
as usual sony will be wiping their tears away with their hundred dollar bill tissues edit: it probably won't happen but I can see a reality in which it would. I'm just hypothesizing based upon sony's typical practices of squeezing their users for a buck and trying to make them feel bad about it at the same time Most amazing jew boots |

Pointing out the obvious isn't especially clever, no, but they can't all be gems.

Getting off the subject of LeHah being an ass, anybody get an e-mail from Sony about this yet? Not that it'd do any good days after everybody has already known but it'd be interesting to see how much they actually care. I got one yesterday night.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() #654: Braixen |
Finally got the email this morning, actually. Many folks I Know still hadn't gotten one as of yesterday.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I was surprised to see an e-mail from them yesterday afternoon but then I remembered I had to sign up for a PSN account for some PSP shit. I'm not sure if there's any information I'm terribly concerned about being out there (for one, I did not use my credit card at any point) but, well, I'm probably just as alarmed as everyone else that Sony's shit got hacked.
An interesting tidbit in the e-mail:
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I got the email yesterday.
And yeah, that is a special bit for Massachusetts. On the playstation blog they posted the same info the emails contained, but had links for Massachusetts residents and Puerto Rico residents. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Finally got mine early this morning. Was wondering what was the hold up was. Gee. I am not even sure what's my password is but I do hope when it boots back up, they'll still send an email password confirmation? Or is that just asking too much?
ALSO.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
According to the Q&A thing they posted on the blog today, there will be a prompt to change your password the first time you log back in. Not sure how that really helps considering that the hackers have all the info they need to log in and change your password before you do.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
My JP account got the e-mail shortly after the announcement of what happened, my US account
It's good that the CC info was encrypted (however strong it was encrypted is up to debate considering personal info is plaintext) since it's not too hard to guess a new security code / expiration date if the number stays the same. Don't even need the security code either if buying plane tickets :| I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Well I got the email this morning finally too. Thankfully I was able to get a new debit card, AND I took the liberty of getting a second account exclusively for online purchases at my bank earlier today, so I probably will be okay. About time I did so anyway.
So now with the lawsuits already filed, I wonder how Sony's already pretty abysmal PR department is going to handle this one. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |

Well if the hackers did get hold of anyone's credit card information and they use it fraudulently, in Europe at least Sony will fall foul of the PCI (Payment Card Industry) rules which govern the storage of people's CC details. Fucking that up can lead to a fine of up to £1million and being forced by the banks to review all your security procedures and implement new ones, a rather costly exercise in itself. I'm not sure if PCI compliance is in effect in the US although I very much doubt it, given that chip and pin still seems to be a terrifying new concept for some people over there.
In general terms Sony ain't going to miss a million quid but the damage to investor confidence will really hurt them, as will having to re-build their security systems and the fact that people won't trust PSN for a while. This could end up being a really costly error on Sony's part. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() ![]() |
ok Russia is part of Europe so i do`not need to worrying any more

Anyone here ever play an SOE game, especially non-US people? More incoming bad news. Earlier today all Sony Online Entertainment games were taken down:
Edit: Apparently this is not a new attack, this occurred in the original attack, but they only discovered the SOE breach within the last 24 hours. That's like....even worse. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I was just reading about that over at Joystiq, but I guess Daravon already got here with the news. It's impressive how this manages to get worse and worse when it was already so pathetic on Sony's part to begin with.
I went by the bank and cancelled my debit card (never used my credit on PSN) today, so now I'm just going to sit back and wait for next week's announcement from Sony that the hackers got our SSNs too somehow. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Call me dense - but whats the difference between the SOE service and PSN exactly?
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I'm guessing SOE is mostly for the MMO stuff on PC (and recently on PS3), like Everquest and now DC Universe.

At this point, the longer this outage goes on, the funnier I find it.
I would like a chance to play MAG some time this decade though. (Strangely, PSN is down but game updates are still available?) What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]()

Game updates are house on separate servers or something like that, so they've been working. I think just anything that requires you to get through the PSN user/pass is down, which is why Netflix on PS3 seems to still be working for most people.
