2 points - iXion - a reticent voice of song -conditional duty-
2 points - Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run (Game Rip) - Main Theme 1 point - Game Music Concert 2 ~ The Best Selection - Wizardry V 'Opening' 1 point - Maruan Series 1 Umihara Kawase Shun ~Second Edition (Game Rip) - BGM 3 There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I need about 30 mins but I will be voting, so please keep things open. Thanks!
EDIT: Not too hard in the end to decide the points. 3 points: iXion - a reticent voice of song -conditional duty- 2 points: Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run (Game Rip) - Main Theme 1 point: Game Music Concert 2 ~ The Best Selection - Wizardry V 'Opening' Close: Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone (Game Rip) - Githyanki Ahead! The Griffey track by Fischer went into such absurdly awful territory that, as it got worse, it somehow looped back around into being awesome as hell, something the Kingdom Grandprix track dreamt of accomplishing but didn't come close to. The Griffey track was so terrible. :-D This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Completely stunned by this, I am.
Were we listening to the same thing? I'll freely admit, I didn't "get" the iXion track at all. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
The iXion track contains a musical cue that holds a certain sentimental value for some members of the video game arrangement community. Whether this influenced CHz or Liontamer's votes or not, we may never know...

Uh... Wow. Okay. I didn't see that coming. Maybe I need a break from SotW, I seem to be out of touch completely.
Congratulations to CHz, I guess.

But no, the cumshot usage didn't sway me at all. I heard it on the first listen, but didn't really pay much attention to it. 'Ili mentioned it last night when I was listening to the tracks again, but I wouldn't have even remembered without him mentioning it. That's a pretty dumb reason to give something a 3 though, but David's kidding anyway. I'm a big fan of off-kilter tracks like "Quiet Voice -conditional duty-", though I also mentioned to CHz that a lot of Yack's material smokes this up. But yeah, I hear so many of them that I realize not to judge them off the first listen. 1:50-on was cool, and I liked the creativity in the sound programming. Beyond that, none of the other tracks came across as particularly strong. How ya doing, buddy?

More people actually voted for BGM 3, Nostalgic, and Main Theme, but the people who liked that iXion track were really gung-ho about it: five 3's out of eight votes. It works the other way too; I've seen tracks edge out victory by catching small votes from a lot of people. Don't go. ![]()
I won't deny that I laughed at the first one, but that's because of the long delay before the last note that made me figure it wasn't going to finish. Surprise! But the three points, those came from every other part of the track (except 6:07, which is the lamest and most unnecessary key change I've ever heard in my life). Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Anyway, I finally got it... Haha, kinda sad that I would miss those, considering. I guess the track was so jarring to me I didn't actually hear anything. I'm deeply ashamed. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

I think a lot of people actually take issue with the fact that the music is evaluated before being posted. That would be my guess in surasshu's case, especially considering he's been known to do some pretty radical interpretations himself.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Some fanmixers (like virt, for example) do this thing where they take an old track and "restore" it to what they feel the composer had originally intended, but that's not really my thing. My favorite remix style is when it's a real "rearrangement", where you can hear the original and think "hey, that's really clever, and it actually works". ... I think I slid a bit off topic. Yay rambling? ![]() But yeah like Dhsu said, my main problem is the pre-evaluation system, and the vibe of the reviews of the songs that do make it. To me it seems like everyone should be able to create music for others to hear, and following that, reviews should be honest, even brutally so. I do understand the reasoning behind the setup, and that one would feel the need to block the crappiest entries, but I can't help but feeling that this is not the right way to run a music site. I guess it is something personal, after all. ![]() Anyway, I kinda exaggerated the whole "anti-OCR" thing I guess. I don't hate OCR in the sense that I wish it was gone or even that the site should change. It's a milestone in the structure of vgmixing that I respect for what they've achieved, but includes some policies that I don't particularly agree with. And since there is an alternative (well, sometimes there is anyway), I don't mind that djpretzel runs his site the way he wants, that's absolutely his right. Plus, some of my favorite VG arrangers post their stuff on OCR.
