Contacts are a blessing for us blind people, like me. I think that everyone who is young, active, and have suitable eyes for commercial contacts should consider soft contacts as a viable solution. I don't see any excuse not to try them at least for a couple days. You just need to find the right brand and fit for you. They have never been a problem for me since I've been using them for close to ten years (wow, never realized that until now).

Switched to Alcon solution ever since the Renu scare, been using the same contacts brand as well. Didn't get around to those new contacts that allow your eyes to "breathe" better. Wore them for a month and decided the extra thickness wasn't worth the "extra oxygen". I take them off after dinner anyway. Never wanted to try hard contacts because soft is definitely cheaper and the disposibility feels cleaner.

I've been wearing glasses most of the time (read: all of the time except when I sleep and shower) for a good few years now and I guess I'm pretty used to wearing them.

Maybe someday I'll try contacts. Maybe. I'm alright with wearing glasses.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Contact lenses are a no. I only wear glasses for reading, meticulous handiwork (use your imagination) and computer use. Unless I can't find them, as is the case today!

Nope, never had contacts, never had glasses. I want to get some color contacts just because. Or some custome contacts.

Glasses for now, I'm planning on doing that LASIK stuff (but i want to do it proper with the eye scanning and stuff), but it costs so much, so i think i'll do it when I'm older.

Glasses can be annoying though, they slip to the end of my nose whenever i do anything which works up a sweat.

I thought about contacts, but my mum tried them and she said they made her eyes really dry and something about them just creeps me out... dunno why.

oh and first post here on the forums (well first real post)

I'm in the same boat as Guru--feelin' pretty lucky because my family all wear glasses and I have vision that's just fine for the time being. Also, they are all avid readers whereas I am not... I cannot help but wonder if this has something to do with it.

One of my biggest fears about being diabetic is losing my eyesight one day, and considering my poor control, it seems to be a valid possibility (though no changes in sight yet).

Also, BlueMikey's post sounded exactly like an infomerical or something, and for some reason I found it highly amusing!

I'm severely myopic (nearsighted), and have a slight astigmatism in my left eye. I'm an ideal candidate for contact lenses.

Unfortunately, due to the deterioration of my eyes, I require the gas permeable variety; they're often referred to as "semi-hard". They're a bit smaller and a lot less flexible than the conventional contact lens, which makes them more difficult to insert.

I've never had a pair of the soft contacts, so I had to learn with the gas permeable sort. Unforunately, if you're not used to wearing contacts, it's like having a smoothed chip of glass in your eye and it's quite uncomfortable. They say you get used to it but I had trouble. My cause wasn't helped by the fact that I possess extremely long eyelashes, especially for a male. They often got in the way.

Eventually, I sort of gave up. I wasn't able to accustom myself to the lenses and I was always paranoid that they'd slide way up and back, becoming lodged with no means of removal short of emergency surgery. I know this is an impossibility due to the way the eyeball is shaped and that all foreign objects are pushed toward the iris, but my brain kept telling me this was a convenient lie and that the optometrists were in cahootz with the surgeons.

It's a shame, really. My current lenses are very thick, even with high-index reductions. They make my eyes look small and distorted when viewed from the outside. The most tragic part is that my eyes are naturally wide and expressive. Whenever I take my glasses off, people are startled by the power of my gaze, especially women. Women love my eyes.

I've looked into LASIK surgery, and it's possible for me. It won't cure the myopia, but it can drastically improve my vision to the point where I can wear soft contacts or lightweight lenses. Perhaps then I'll set about my ladykilling ways.

I wear glasses, because I don't really feel comfortable with putting stuff into my eye.

I wear glasses and I'm quite comfortable with them. I would never get contacts because like some of the people here I hate things touching my eyes. I don't have bad vision, but I can't see the board in my classroom from even the front row. My vision is like 20/50 and 20/60 in my eyes(I can't remember which sides though).

I probably won't ever get lasik because I like my glasses. They make me seem more like, well....me, but I've only been wearing them for 2 years. Though people say I look better with my glasses off, but I disagree.(you can see a pic in my wiki)

I've had glasses since 4th grade, and really it doesn't bother me. I look so odd without them...or at least, that's what my friends say. Of course, they've never seen me without them for an extended period of time. I prefer myself with them, anyway.

I will never get Lasik, simply because I'm paranoid that any sort of error will permanently fuck up my eyesight -- and everything I do in life depends on my eyes.

I'm wearing contacts right now. I've been told I have about 20/400 vision by my eye doctor. My glasses are -8.5 in strength... I'd love to have lasik surgery done except it is about 900 per eye.

I've been wearing glasses since first grade and I have to say that I don't mind wearing them at all. I think the ones I own tend to fit my general sense of style and make me look a little better (or at least as much as something can do).

I've thought about Lasik, but my eyesight is really freaking poor and I'm always scared of surgery, so I don't feel like it's worth the mental stress I'd have to go through (and how I'd still probably need a light set of glasses anyway).

Is there anyone out there that wears fake glasses? My old roommate used to wear ones with just glass in them since he liked how they made him look (and I only found this out after living with him for three years).

Yeah, ANYTHING going near my eyes gets me nervous. And, from what I hear, they don't exactly put you to sleep while they fuck around with your eyes either. Call it Lasik or whatever, but it's still a fucking LASER.

I'd do it though. I have horrible vision (near sighted).

I got used to glasses for a couple years, then I switched to contacts and never looked back. My prescription is pretty low--1.00 in the left and 1.25 in the right, both negative.
