You know, I really don't see the problem with Main Theme 1. In fact, I think it's a very beautiful track. The instrumentation flows very smoothly, and it also develops a very interesting atmosphere. Sure, the melody isn't memorable, but the prettiness makes up for that in a flash. It's one of the rare tracks that really pulls off its enjoyability with the instrumentation as opposed to the actual melody (though, certainly, the melody has something to do with it too). Great stuff~

A vision is quite enjoyable too, although, in this week its melody doesn't really stand out amongst the other contenders. I don't have any direct complaints on the track, but I don't have anything that I really love about it either.

Goldfish's Uematsu comment totally ruined my expectations for Deepsea Shrine. The more I listen to it, the more it sounds like something he'd compose (and I have a pretty strong anti-Uematsu bias, for now at least). I can respect that it's a well-composed track (probably better than a lot of Uematsu's stuff, to be fair), but the approach doesn't really appeal to me.

I love the frantic approach of SADISTIC SEXART 2006, as well as the track title. The melody does some interesting things throughout, but unfortunately it doesn't leave much of an impression this week. The melody just isn't that memorable, and unlike Main Theme 1, it doesn't really carry an absolutely awesome style of instrumentation.

Heart of Winter Theme just does nothing for me. I think it's one of the few tracks I've heard in SotW that fails to appeal no matter how often I listen to it. The short duration almost makes the track sound invisible amongst this week's batch.

Ork = winnage. The development is great, and the melody does a bunch of interesting things. It's also not the most memorable or powerful melody, but the track varies enough to maintain a freshness of sound. That piano intro is to die for, too.

The wackiness of BANG! BANG! BIG HORNES EXPLOSION wins on every level, too. I love its approach... Seems to toss out all dignity and blast fun music that will (hopefully) appeal to the listener. It definitely appeals to me; I might feel like dancing if I was even remotely good at doing such a thing.

Brutal Battle is more or less in the same category as Heart of Winter Theme for me, although this time the melody is quite powerful and certainly more memorable. It still doesn't really stand out to me, personally. Guess I'm not much of a fan of Soule's stuff.

3 Points ~ Albert Odyssey Gaiden ~ Legend of Eldean - Main Theme 1
2 Points ~ THE ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK ALBUM OF GIANT EGG ~ MUSIC POPPED OUT OF THE EGG - BANG! BANG! BIG HORNES EXPLOSION
1 Point ~ Immortal 3 - Ork

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If I really went through it I could probably seperate all these tracks out. But I can't find any standouts this week, so the effort is not worth it.

(2 points) Albert Odyssey Gaiden ~ Legend of Eldean - Main Theme 1
(1 point) Immortal 3 - Ork
(1 point) Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Brutal Battle
(1 point) THE ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK ALBUM OF GIANT EGG ~ MUSIC POPPED OUT OF THE EGG - BANG! BANG! BIG HORNES EXPLOSION
(1 point) Ganbare Goemon Mononoke Sugoroku (N64 Game Rip) - Deepsea Shrine

----

And it's my turn this week. Nom time. This will do poorly, naturally.

Album: Conker: Live and Reloaded Original Soundtrack
Artist: Robin Beanland
Track Title: The Ditch
Track #: 1-14
Catalog #: SE-2016-2

ok week, not as amazing as others though...

3pt: Immortal 3 - Ork (8.5/10)
Thank you, I missed this song while I was archiving the Immortal 3 album into my favorites directory. I think the power to this piece is the fact that it continues to develop throughout the entire song, always sounding like something is building up to the final theme. If the song continued to develop on the piano, I would also enjoy it just as much.

2pt: Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Brutal Battle (7.5/10)
Quite a strong song, I know that it sounds somewhat busy at different points throughout the piece; however, it really isn't completely random.

1pt: Icewind Dale II Soundtrack - Heart of Winter Theme (7/10)
I actually really like this track. The number one thing I don't like about Soule is the fact that some of his music is sometimes too ambient... Myst sounding... if you really think about it. However, this song has a lot of energy in it, just like a few of the other intriguing Soule pieces out there.

Fuujin Ryouiki Eretzvaju Original Soundtrack - A vision [Al] (6.5/10)
This song seems to never stay with the same tune, which makes it a big plus for me in this case. I do recall hearing similar styles of music somewhere in Wild Arms as well, although the song itself uses completely different instruments. I still don't feel completely wowed by the track, but the song is definitely above average.

Ganbare Goemon Mononoke Sugoroku (N64 Game Rip) - Deepsea Shrine (6.5/10)
Honestly, I really don't think that this song sounds like something from Uematsu. Instead, I think it really sounds like some of Mitsuda's old compositions such as Chrono Trigger. Uematsu's old "classics" simply bore me to death. Instead, this song at least makes me listen to the whole song. Quite impressive for an N64's synth.

THE ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK ALBUM OF GIANT EGG ~ MUSIC POPPED OUT OF THE EGG - BANG! BANG! BIG HORNES EXPLOSION (6/10)
Honestly, I know it's a big band piece, but I really think this is too generic. However, that's the longest and strangest title I've seen in a very long time.

Albert Odyssey Gaiden ~ Legend of Eldean - Main Theme 1 (6/10)
I suppose this is one of the themes where I'm supposed to feel interest in the track because of the instrumentation, because the melody itself is extremely simple. I think that the song itself has been done before--that is, the instrumental style is extremely familiar and probably not completely original. That being said, because the melody is too simple for me, I think this song is still lacking a tiny bit.

Gore Screaming Show Complete Sound Archives - SADISTIC SEXART 2006 (5.5/10)
Honestly, I think this song really lacks a strong melody. I know that there is a lot of instruments merged into a single song, and the melody goes extremely fast, but honestly, I'm not very surprised.

I was speaking idiomatically.

.
Listen to "Home Sweet Home" from FFV, along with one with one of Uematsu's older "underground" dungeon themes...To me, it's a perfect mixture of the two. The second part does sound a little like the end-of-game CT dungeons, but I wouldn't have readily made that connection at all. And again, that's ignoring the backbeat and the Asian influences.

And yeah...It's impressive the N64 can almost sound as good as an SNES.

Might as well toss in my next nomination now:

- Artist: a2c
- Album/Game Title: G5 Project
- Track Title: Transient Blue
- Disc Number: 1
- Track Number: 08
- Year: 2005
- Additional Information: This album is an contains original works from various doujin artists and does not contain any vgm or vgm arrangements. But since a2c (one of the founding members of MintJam) composed for the game Poteneko Academy, that should make this track eligible.

Congrats, Knight.

I think this was also Shanks's first placement. If not that, it was likely his first Gold. Good job, Shanks.

Congratulations, to all winners!! To all nominators whose tracks that didn't place (including myself ), don't be too disappointed. SotW is, as so many have stated, a platform to introduce obscure/underrated/sometimes new game music to the community so even if no one appreciates your nomination (this has happened rather infrequently, actually), it will certainly get some sort of exposure and maybe even some positive recognition in the future.

Like I said when I nominated my track (the Goemon one), I wasn't expecting to win with it, but all things considered it did better than I hoped.
