Rather than a MGS adaption I'd rather see a prequel set in Outer Heaven. It'd translate better into a movie then they can move to MGS once people are a bit more familiar with characters and factions later on if they wanted to.

Roy Campbell: Ed Harris (He was fantastic in the Rock, he's spot on for this also.)

Big Boss: Sean Connery (Hell yes. In fact, he was the inspiration for Big Boss in the original Metal Gear)

Otacon: This doesn't really have to anyone famous and if we're talking a prequel to MGS in Outer Heaven he's not even needed.

Liquid Snake: Sean Bean all the way. I have pics.

Viggo doesn't have the anti-hero quality, IMO.
Have you seen A History of Violence? Not sure that was anti-heroish, but still damn brutal.

Also, Sean Bean FTFW. He is an excellent actor....wide range of talants but mostly happens to play a disgruntled, crazy terrorist loool

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hm... Kiefer Sutherland as Snake, Donald Sutherland as Big Boss / Solidus...
Could work out.
And of course, you all know only Peter Stormare can be Ocelot.

haha yeh Sutherland that would just be taking the bauer role to the extreme.

Sutherland for Master Cheif though, that would be kick ass.

How about Dexter (Michael C. Hall) for Snake,

Grows a beard I think, he could do the role quite well

I'd like to here Hyrid do the soundtrack, their album 'I choose noise' has some very good esponage style tracks

I guess for the kind of movie A History of Violence was, I stand corrected. I haven't seen it in a long time and I own it.

Sean Bean as Liquid Snake. I forgot about his hair in LotR! Heh. If GoldenEye is any indication, he does the villain role well.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

If this is going to be a Metal Gear Solid moive, it has to take place after the crazy adventures prior to the PSX release, so no Big Boss not unless some plot device is used and magically appears there.

Its going to be hellish to cram multiple game scenarios, the history for when it takes place in (including MGS3 which will probably get a mention somewhere in the plot). Lets see what happens come late 2008.

All I require is one 5-minute scene wherein Snake hides in a cardboard box. Then the movie will be complete.

Make the movie full CG so we can do this right

Jam it back in, in the dark.

So... play the game on a big screen minus actual game play?

Think about it. Cybernetic Ninjas and guys who punch and set off bullets or command hordes of bees would just be downright corny on live-action

If this is going to be a Metal Gear Solid moive,
The word "Solid", in the title of the recent entries of the series, refers only to the fact that the game is in 3D. In other words, objects are solid, rather than flat.

This applies to a live action movie, regardless of when it takes place in the canon storyline.

Unless they have flawless photo real animation down pat (which they don't) then no, absolutely not. Though I do imagine CG will be thrown in there.

How ya doing, buddy?

It'll be a CG-fest on par with Blade 2 =( I ASSURE YOU OF THIS.

Clint Eastwood would've been the PERFECT Snake if he was 30-40 years younger. It's a crying shame...

Minus the beard, this guy (Rade Serbedzija) is SO Ocelot.

Are there any details describing characters and plot? I have a sneaking [pun!] suspicion that any resemblance this movie actually has to the game will be purely coincidental. I mean they can't include many of the characters unless they plan on making an adaption of one of the original plots which is about as likely to happen as Uwe Boll directing and staring as Grey Fox. Until I see more details emerge all I'm seeing in this is some guy called Snake doing stuff in a movie called Metal Gear Solid and if it wasn't for those two points the viewer would have no idea what they were watching.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Boris the Blade, the Bulletdodger...
Indeed, he's right behind Mr. Stormare on my list of preferred Ocelots.

(Stormare basically because US producers seem to think all europeans including russians look like, well, Peter Stormare, especially if they're villains, plus, I just like him a lot... One of my favorite bad guy actors of more recent times.)

This movie has such great potential. Too bad it's going to flop, like the live action evangelion movie.

The fact of the matter is, Hollywood is going to control what comes out in it. Yes, Kojima is a big player and universally hailed as a genius, but as soon as mentions anything like The Fear or Psycho Mantis in to a Hollywood big boss he is going to get shot down.

Life is just awful.

Also, an audience larger than video game players is needed to make a movie do well. People will go watch this thinking it's some dumb action flick and then flip a shit and leave the theater once they see something like the cardboard box or Psycho Mantis.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I know that the movie plot isn't revealed, nor even premise, but I'd actually like to see some sort of adaption of MGS or perhaps even Metal Gear.

Oh yeah, The Rock to play Vulcan Raven. Y'all know it makes sense

I think Kojima its trying not to piss off as many fans to avoid more death threats, but if this movie does fail in fan's eyes I hope to hear a commentary or something that he has to say of what he wanted to put in vs. what was 'good' for hollywood's sake.

I've said it before, Christian Bale for Snake (especially the young (ish) clean-cut Snake from MGS1. Bale can do a better Snake voice than any other potentials, and He's certainly closer looking to Snake than Vigo or Keifer, as much as I love them, its true.)

Powers Boothe for Ocelot (His appearance on 24 has reaffirmed his awesomeness. He's born to play sleezy backstabby villainous characters).

Sony is responsible for Resident Evil (Okay. Enjoyable and not really disloyal to the franchise) and Silent Hill (let's face it, best videogame movie ever to date, despite its plot problems), I have at least some faith in it. Casting wishlists aside, it won't exactly ruin the movie if they don't cast a "PERFECT Snake, Ocelot, ect.", since lots of actors can potentially fill the roles well (Jackman, Vigo, Keifer, Bale, Russel, all would make good Snakes). The movie simply has to be cast well, which is up to the director/producer/casting person. I'm really worried about which director is going to be attached to this. That's the most important thing for this movie to succeed (or rather, avoid utter failure). Even if this movie has horrible plot redo like Silent Hill, the MGS plot is still, at its heart, an entertaining tale. Kojima as Producer makes me sigh relief. He has say over the director and perhaps even over the other producer. He'll at least aim this gun at the right targets. Its up to the director to fine tune it and get the head shots (though body shots wouldn't be bad considering that, continuing the gun analogy, Silent Hill managed to hit the target in the foot or the leg where pretty much every other videogame adaption was either way off target or the gun simply jammed).

I think some parts of Hollywood are slowly learning that people like adaptions better when they're true to the source material (Sin City, Silent Hill, Batman Begins, LOTR, and any recent faithful adaptions of properties). Or maybe that's just what directors are learning and Hollywood could care less because all they see are ticket sales (Snakes on a Plane, Ghost Rider, ect.).

In any case, I hope some of the people working on 24 get in on this because 24 is pretty much "MGS the TV series" sans the supernatural powers and giant robots.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
