Hmmm, time to reflect on our families pet history:
- Gerbils: About 5 of them all died of old age. - Rabbits: 1. Patch, killed by my dog Max (First day we got him, since he was a great dane he jumped into the rabbit pen and caught her in his mouth but didn't actually injure her since she had no physical damage, but the poor thing died from shock I guess) 2. Pie (Rabbit Pie, geddit?), died from abssess 3. Fuzzball, died of old age. - Dogs: 1. Mutley, died of old age at 17 2. Max, died aged 2 of what we guess to be a heart attack. I found him after coming home from school one day, for a few seconds I just thought he was sleeping but then it clicked. About the "disposing" of medium sized pets, we had both our dogs cremated. They're on a shelf upstairs =p. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I've had quite a few pets die on me actually.
In the past we've had 3 dogs - a cocker spaniel, a golden retriever, and a german shepard. The spaniel died rather violently in the boarding hospital while we were away for a couple days. I'm sure it was the stress at his age of 14 that did him in. The vet tried performing heorics which did nothing but complicate the process. My second dog, the Retriever, contracted bone cancer at around 2.5 years old. By the time we had him put down, he had a tumor nearly the size of a football on his leg. It was an in-house euthenasia that I was present for, and was one of the sadest things I've had to sit through. 2 days later, my dad's coworker gave him their 1 year old german shepard, because they couldn't keep her. Apparently, the dog was an absolute skitzo. Within a year she got out of the house an bit a pregnant woman walking down the street. She was put down a week later. Besides dogs, I've had 6 hamsters, all of which died differently (broken limb, poisening, suffocation, strangling, old age, and anaphalactic shock). We've had a mouse, which was always prone to disease or parasite and probably died from it. We've had 4 gerbils - bought the mother and she had 3 babies. The first baby died a while later of paralysis, the rest of age or some other mysterious cause. We have a 5th gerbil now that has suffered a stroke, but keeps on trucking. And we've had numerous fish that came and went. I think that sums up everything. We currently have a Labrador Retriever, gerbil, and a miniature rabbit. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Great thread idea, Brady. Now, as far as I remember...
Fish - All fish get flushed down the toilet. Fuck it. Cat - When I was in the sixth grade my cat Smoky died from his body not being able to get rid of the furball that had gathered in his stomach. He was suffering so we had him put to sleep. I'm sure they got rid of the body in whatever way they do. I don't want to know. Lovebird1: Fucker was taking a stroll on the carpet. There was a loud BANG outside and I shot up to my feet from the croched position I was in and stepped on him. Dead. Buried his ass. Lovebird2: First year in Vegas. I was sleeping on the floor since at the time we had no beds and the fucker decides to come down from his page to sleep with me. He'd usually do this and nuzzle into my neck for warmth. Woke up the next day with a green and peach smear next to me. Buries his ass. Blue Parakeet: Old. Was pawned off on me when my exgirlfriend couldn't take it to the place she was moving to. Fucking thing died not long after. Buried her ass. Lovebird3: Came back home one day... Saw the open cage, saw the open window. Never saw him again. He probably died not long after since his wings were clipped to the point were he couldn't fly for long and there were many cats in the area. If I had found his body/remains I would've buried his ass too. Sobe my black and white spotty cat: He died just before I got deported while I was in INS jail. Lenore told me on the phone. She got him cremated. It's not much now, but I did feel extremely horrible after each of these deaths. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Let's see...
White Himalayan, Princess of Kathmandu ("Dewy"), choked on a hair ball (or so I was told). Cocker Spaniel, Nikki, died of liver failure. Damn, thanks for making me think about that. Odin the stray cat was hit by a car. We had only been feeding him for a few weeks. Well, now we're back up to three...a white stray cat, a black adoped cat, and a saved Weimar Pointer--Wonda, Rocko, and Isaac, respectively. They're all pretty old and could go at any time. I was speaking idiomatically. |
My Stick Insect died because.... god only knows. It just went missing, I think the other insects ate it.
My first cat died of possibly liver/ kidney failure. Snake (garter snake) died of old age. Owl: Dad pissed, gave it it's freedom on New Years. Dog: my birthday present - soon after parents spilt up, dog goes with mother, I go other way. Several years later, I look after dog for one weekend, take it out to field for a run (it's a Lurcher - Greyhound X) off the lead for about 30 seconds, trips over a stick and breaks it's neck. About a week later gets put down. Meanwhile... Rat: Died of lead poisoning My cat: had to get it put to sleep last November due to an infection/ tumour. Most horrible thing ever. Had this pet the longest, 10 years, most fucking horrible thing ever having to get it put down. All for the best though, but I still miss the little bugger. The worst thing about that was that the very next day, I recieved an envolope from the Vets containing a card and a packet of 'Forget me Not' seeds. The bastards. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
All my pets have either been put down...or ran away (cats suspected to have been eaten by Fisher cats)
I do have a funny story about a fish that we had thought had died tho... we had had a whole bunch of fish in our fishtank...one of them a clown Losche (sp???) that I called Bozo. One day we noticed that 'Bozo' was missing from the tank... in the tank we had a castle thing that the fish like to go in, upon closer inspection we could see that bozo was stuck in the top turrett of the castle...figureing he had probably starved by now we went to dump him in the toilet only to see him swim around in there!!!! FELIPE NO |
I've only gone through one pet death and it has to be the hardest death I've ever taken and I've lost some close people in my life (make that two this one is so incredibly hard to get through that I completely forgot about one that shaked me as well).
Back on December 25, 2005 (yes CHRISTMAS) I went to visit my eight-year-old rabbit and he seemed rather tired looking, so I went to rouse him. He didn't get up, so I tried harder, but only after forcing him and supporting him did he move at all. He seemed to be fading, my thoughts raced, he had been very ill back in September, so it could be the same cause, kidney failure (with vet help he recovered from that bout). I talked to him comforted him, he still seemed in pain and was very much out of it. Then I held him, in a way for the first time he didn't resist, he's always hated being lifted. After a while of talking to him I put him back down, he didn't like being held. He looked like a limp horse, very scary and sad looking indeed. At this point I'm scared and nervous to the extreme so I get my parents and we try to help him. It gets harder and harder so him to move. Suddenly he lets out a cry and kicks frantically, his last burst of strength. Soon after only some fidgeting remains and he slowly goes limp and still. We were devastated , I try to close his eyes for posterity, but it doesn't work. So we put a towel over him so he can slip the mortal coil having the last thing he saw being us. The next day we bury him right under where he lived. I didn't cry or visibly grieve since I had been thinking about his inevitable mortality since 2003 when my other pet died (I'll talk about him in a second. But over the next year (including now) it has worn on me, it was dispersed over these months. If it had come out all at once, I would have been half way between hysterical and suicidal, that's why the mental preparation from my parakeet's death back in 2003 was essential in me getting back up (that and a job to keep me busy). So going to 2003 we got a parakeet that was old and needed a better home (because the last one had a cat (!)). Skyler was a very good friend and cracking the layers of his mind (which at this point had been made very paranoid and aggressive due to the aforementioned cat) and bonding with him was very fun and a joy. But on my mom's birthday (see a pattern here?) on November 9, he died, only five months into getting him. I was away at a cousin's, so it fell like a load of metal onto my back, it hurt. While my rabbit's death was a slow intense burning hellfire, Skyler's death was more like a stick of dynamite, it exploded, maybe there was some flames; but after a week or two I had come to terms with it. It was only through Skyler's death that I was prepared and able to cope with my rabbit's death in 2005. Still nothing can compare to the grief I felt when my rabbit died, he was my best friend for eight years. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I had a dog that died back in June of 2001. I remember since it was the week I started my first job ever. ;_;
"Billy" was a german shepherd/pekingese mix... cute like no other. I used tio play with him a lot, and I have tons of memories with him in the snow. Those were some awesome times. He only lived for about 8 years... died because of some sort of infection-something. I'm not too sure what exactly. I remember the last few days well too as I spent time with him. HE was crying too, like he knew his time was up. Sad times... ;_; My dad and I laid him to rest in the forest in our backyard. If I could find some pictures, I'll definitely post them. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
When I was a kid, I was travelling with a whole family of stick insects. They were behind the back seats of the car...it was a hot day...sigh. Goddamn you, cruel cruel star of our solar system.
Though to be honest, they were breeding like god knows what, and I couldn't get rid of them quick enough. I used to keep things under control by 'losing' some of the smaller ones. Like when I was changing their privet leaves, I'd throw older privets in the bin, and I knew full well that I hadn't removed some of the baby insects from them before I did so. But I guess I didn't see them because stick insects camoflage next to twigs huh. Yeah I was glad they all died in one go. Way easier that way. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
When she was a kid, my mom fed her cat a lot of rum cake. Actually, her and everyone at the birthday party did. The cat died, drunk and content, in the basement window. Jesus Christ, this thread is depressing. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
For a very long time, this kid at the end of my block would have his highschool drop out friends over to skateboard, and smoke like chiminies. They would always drive down my quiet little residential street upwards of 80 km/h.
One day i was letting my 3 year old cat outside, and she was being her usual indescisive self, and standing at the open doorway, checking to see if it was worth her time to go out. Eventually i just nudged her with my foot, and she scooted out the door. Back at my homework, about an hour later, i heard the loud screeching to tires. I think nothing of it, only to find my cat with a crushed skull on my drive way. As i remember, that was the last day i actually saw those guys hang around my street anymore... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
