Doing this quickly. I haven't time to spare.

3 point(s) :: The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt (SNES Game Rip) - Bathroom ~ Ending

2 point(s) :: Jet Force Gemini (Game Rip) - Water Ruins

1 point(s) :: Gyakuten Saiban Orchestra Album ~GYAKUTEN MEETS ORCHESTRA~ - Gyakuten Saiban 3 Courtroom Suite

"Stay Out of the Moonlight" and "Alex & Ken Stage -JAZZY NYC '99-" were both good, and close to getting points, but I stand by my current allocation.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Why not just add all of that to the rules in the nominating section? As it stands, a discussion on what is "too popular" is bound to occur every time there is an influx of new members... Giving examples like those helped make things much clearer for me, at least.

For example, almost no one is going to consider Final Fantasy, Zelda, or Mario "reasonably obscure", but not so much with Guilty Gear or Ace Combat. Unless you've been on gff for a while, you have no way of knowing that songs from those games have been overused.

I think the "If you aren't sure, ask." idea is good as it stands, but it might save some redundant discussion if those examples are listed on the wiki.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Wow, the first time in living memory when my personal top three are the SoTW top three!

As far as tinkering with the rules goes, I'd prefer to leave them as they are, since the system's working well enough without too much input from on high. But if we start getting a torrent of unacceptable nominations, there might be a case for codification.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Boo for Bathroom beating out Moonlight. But hey, 2 out of the 4 tracks I voted for placed. That's quite a rarity.

Btw, for this eligibility thing. I know sometimes we try to judge based on how well known we estimate them to be. But, really, we should just all state whether we personally know them. If a lot of people state that they do, then it's no good, but if most people say they don't, then it's fine. That's a real judge, rather than trying to discern the track's popularity based on our perception of everyone else's awareness.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

Personally, I figure that if I have to ask whether something's too popular, it probably is - I likely wouldn't have nominated something from the MM Zero games, f'rinstance, since...you know, it's Megaman (though that piece did pretty well votewise, I remember). But then, I nominated a Tobal piece thinking it fairly obscure, and there was nearly debate about that until a Suikoden nomination distracted peoples' attention.

Personally know the game, or personally know the music? Just using this week as an example, I've heard of every single one of those games, yet I think all of them can be considered "reasonably obscure".

If we switched to your idea, we'd have an extremely difficult time getting any nominations at all, especially considering that almost everyone who votes in SoTW has pretty extensive experience with video games. Not to mention the added time wasted for everyone to vote "Yay" or "Nay" for every nomination that comes up... and the possible biases that could be introduced in using such a system.

Ouch! I forgot to vote this week. Anyway, I would have given 3 points to Armored Cored (why it ended like that??), 2 to the Adams Family and the last one for SFIII.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Personally know the music, of course.

You don't think people stating whether they themselves are familiar with the music is better than a few people estimating what is known and what is unknown? Obviously, sometimes it's easy to make those estimations (which are more like statements in those cases), but there are often cases that aren't clear-cut.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Ah, yes, I understand what you're saying, now. I haven't been around long, but if there are disagreements as to the eligibility of a song as often as you say, then yes, I agree that you should speak from experience rather what you assume the most common experience is.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
