I'll admit, I didn't hit her with my hardest punch. I didn't want to cause any severe damage, knock any teeth out or break any facial bones. I popped her on the side of the face though and she stumbled back and screamed you fucking asshole in a half-crying tone. Then we just walked away and I eyeballed her as we walked away to make sure she didn't run up behind with a can of pepper spray or something.

Awkward situation, but I think you did the right thing. Blood is thicker than water; you had every right to punch that bitch. I mean, how can someone do that after something so small (and your mother even apologised). Don't feel bad about what you did. I'm with everyone else on this. It's your mom, and you should protect her. Good job on actually going through with it! I would have done the same. I'm wish you would go into a little more detail, though. I've never hit a woman before. Although, if I did, I'd go for the face. if you can deal a punch, you should expect to be dealt one in turn. Honestly I don't condone violence but this is a weird situation. I love my mama, but i know she don't need protection....cause she's a beast when she goes crazy. In my case it would have been a tag team beat down between me and her just smashing that bitch's face against the curve...but this is all in my head really, so i don't know if i could actually do that.

You did the right thing... the cops wouldn't have done anything unless they were actually there at the time... she wouldn't have waited around for them and it would probably have gotten worse if you tried to restrain her. If you did nothing, you would have regretted it later... at least I would have. I would never hit a woman under most circumstances, but I don't care who you are, you don't mess with my family... especially my mother. In a case like that, it's all instincts and reflex... not rationalization. An eye for an eye, I say. Good job!

I was so shocked I didn't have time to get angry really. If I had time to think about the situation, it would've been much harder to restrain myself from laying a much harder punch. It almost felt like it was self-defense even though I wasn't the one hit.

I would've done the same thing and deck her. I mean, first of all, she punched your mom. That was not necessary, so it's only sensical if the punch comes back at her. It was self-defense for your mom. Now, if the bitch punched you, the situation may have been different. I would've spat in her face.

If someone EVER touched my old mother, they would not be long for this world. I'm normally a passive person, I have to let all kinds of abuse slide off my back on almost a daily basis, but if someone hurt my mother, especially if they punched her, i'd use their head as a speedball, or at least give them a good shove. I am a fairly big guy so that usually is enough. You did the right thing, and I believe the law allows you to defend yourself (within reason) if you are attacked.

I understand how it must have been difficult for you though; most of us men have been conditioned to never even consider laying a hand on a girl in anger for any reason which is normally quite correct. I would like to know at what point that line is crossed, where you can be allowed to protect yourself.

She wouldn't get one step past me. My mom's not well, and has a heart condition (it shows too), so I would bring her down, hard as I pleased. Nothing as far as assault, but I would inform her in no uncertain terms that if I ever saw her around my mother again, or even heard of her assaulting another woman like that, that she would not be able to so much as walk, much less hit another woman.

Not that I would ever follow through; I'm a pacifist through and throgh. But sometimes psychological attacks are more effective than physical ones, no?
