1) Do you level your guys up SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what’s expected for the current level/boss?
Not anymore. I used to go into final battles with maximum levels for all characters, but I don't seem to have the time these days to level up as much. The last RPG I completed was Xenosaga Ep. III, and my levels were high enough to get through most of the bosses.

2) Do you level your guys up so they can fight the boss on more “equal” footing, but still have some difficulty?
Sometimes I would level up four or five levels after getting defeated by a boss, and it was still not enough. In that case, I simply tried to change my battle strategy.

3)Do you level only certain party members in which ever RPG you might be playing, or do you go the full nine yards and get everyone maxed out?
Going back to #1, I used to level everyone so they were maxed out. Now, I only level the characters I find more useful in battle.

4)What RPG do you recall has having the longest time spent on pure leveling up? Alright, running to the local town to restock supplies you can count, as long as it’s mainly just raising the level of your characters?
Final Fantasy V. I must have spent over 20 hours just leveling everyone up. Of course at that time, I didn't have many other games to play so I had a lot more freedom to focus on just one game.

5)Do you normally level up in every RPG you play? By that - ie grinding like an over-worked bitchy mom.
I don't think it's necessary now. I think the last game I really stopped trying to level up in was Grandia II.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I usually spend some time grinding before a boss if the "normal" mobs of the area seem difficult.

I don't pick up very well on boss/enemy "weaknesses" such as weakness to fire, or water, or the sword of what's-his-face, etc. I usually manage to still squeak through on a boss fight though.

I level everyone I have to use, but no one else.

I like to explore, so I usually don't have to level up outside of my far-reaching travels. I guess when I played DW1 on emus I spent a lot of time just levelling up because there wasn't that much to explore.

No - I recently beat Shadow Hearts and never really grinded until the end because I read in the FAQ that I should be at a certain level for the boss...

Also, do you find leveling up absolutely necessary for most RPGs that you play?
Most modern-day RPG's that I have played, and I'll admit I'm not as widely played as most, seem to do a good job of ballancing story/events and levelling.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm currently playing Wild Arms Alter Code F, still. But so far I've been exploiting a "secret" to the game that has overpowered my characters in damage and level vs upcomming bosses. Though, I haven't had much time to play lately, I can pretty much end this game in a heartbeat...

But usually, if I were to purposely overpower my characters the traditional way, it'd just going around the world looking for that sweet EXP area. Meaning, looking for high leveled creatures to give worthwhile EXP. Such as in FF7, the sunken airplane thing was excellent for learning missing limit breaks and gaining levels, in Disc 3.

Yes yes yes. Almost always with almost every game. It gives me deep satisfaction completely pwning a boss which gave me trouble, say, 5 hours beforehand.

It only tends to happen the first quarter/half of the game. I know at some point I'll have to stop and level like crazy. I've just gotta do it...

Depends. The first time I play, I'll probably only have a core team of 1337ers I use until I complete it. Then I'll finish the job on that same save. Sometimes I'll just go all out.

The earlier FF's, about 20-30 hours. The most recent, times by 10. Actually, FF10 must've took the most time, since I maxxed everyones sphere grids and collected just about everything there was to collect. I'm such a fucking perfectionist.

I don't think I need to answer that

Just to clarify, my RPG repotire(?) extends to the FF games only. I have played others, but they don't hold my attention as much. I know that doesn't make a great difference, but there ya go. I'm waffling again, aren't I? :shh:

I was speaking idiomatically.

1) Do you level your guys up SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what’s expected for the current level/boss?

Usually I am to be a few levels over a the area, not enough to make it too difficult while leaving some challenge. There are cases where I disregard this, and power level so I have the next level of skills/spells that grant me a distinct edge in the next battle.

2) Do you level your guys up so they can fight the boss on more “equal” footing, but still have some difficulty?

See question 2.

3) Do you level only certain party members in which ever RPG you might be playing, or do you go the full nine yards and get everyone maxed out?

It depends on how many playable characters there are, and if I feel they are worthwhile to train. On the second play through of most games I usually plan ahead and only utilize characters that I feel would be best for a secret/difficult boss.

4) What RPG do you recall has having the longest time spent on pure leveling up? Alright, running to the local town to restock supplies you can count, as long as it’s mainly just raising the level of your characters?

That would be my 300 hour play though of Suikoden III. Much of that was spent rather evenly throughout the game, obtaining rare drops and equipment as soon as they were available and increasing my stats to allow me to beat Luc and company in the storyline battles where you are expected to loose. I also attempted to train a good deal of playable characters for the strategy battles as well. Runner up would be my 200 hour play through of FFX, where I planned my leveling strategy to beat all the arena bosses (including "Omega Gold"). I basically did every side quest, went for every item as soon as it was possible to get it, and tried have everyone learn the next level skills (for example, I had Lulu on Fireaga when you would normally be on Fira.) I also took to time to convert Yuna to a black mage right after leaving Luca (due to rewards from Blitzball), as her magic attack is much higher than Lulu's.

5) Do you normally level up in every RPG you play? By that - ie grinding like an over-worked bitchy mom.

Yes, I glean some satisfaction from dominating every boss I run into, knowing that the extra time I spent leveling up or obtaining a powerful skill or weapon made it possible.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Sometimes, in Final Fantasy X I got raped by Yunalesca. I had to do some power lvling but that is it. I usually only lvl when I get raped by a boss or on a 2nd play through.

I try to fight all my bosses this way unless there very annoying.

I would love to level up all my characters but the time investment is just not worth it.

I"v played Disgaea and Makai Kingdom. Nippon Ichi games require way too much grinding in my opinion. I"v beat both and almost have all the secret characters in Makai kingdom I don't know if I will ever go back to it though. I used to have a game on Disgaea of 140 hours, but non of my characters even made it past 300.

I would have to say no usually on my first play through s of an Rpg I might grind to get a special item or something but I usually wait tell my 2nd play through to grind like hell.

FELIPE NO
