Like Robo said... It all matters on who you play with. All those rule whores can kill the fun out of any game and people with an insane metagame and kill it too.

But I would say, yu-gi-oh is a little bit easier to play since it's still easy to find alot of the cards, whether they be a bit older or not and also for Tourney and they haven't restrict certain older expansions like Magic has but long history and some hardcore players, it's all about the Magic.

I began playing around Weatherlight, on through Scourge before I slowed down, now I rarely play, but I still have all my cards. I had two killer decks, but I never played in any tournaments, it was all casual play. I want to play more, but there isn't really anyone I know that plays.

I don't really see why some people have like 10+ decks... even 5+ deck is a bit for me. For me, I focus on just 2 decks... i had 3 at one time but I gave one up b/c i was spreading my resources for cards too thin and all 3 decks were growing weak so I focus on 2.

So, is no one interested in a friendly little community tournament other than Admiral Amara? If it's the format, we could change that. Or even just a few games every now and then? Come on, it's Magic for free. Easy to set up, I've put all the cards ever made in yousendit links, free super happy fun fun time for everybody.

Yeah, and I keep beating Starman all the time. 3-0. We need more challengers... Just kidding with you, Starman. That deck threw me for a loop. Seriously, though, it's lots of fun. I think it'd be a cool group thing.

(Also, Starman, I wasn't trying just to end the game, I got real distracted afterwards, with stuff like Samurai Champloo... I'm seriously hitting the sack now.)

Well, technically, the second of the two times we've played, we only played one game and didn't finish the round.

And for the record, I was using an insane Confusion in the Ranks/Endless Whispers/Genesis Chamber deck that I'm not even entirely sure how to use yet. But if you'd prefer, I have several far less experimental (and far more mean) decks I could use.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I just have a question. Does anyone have a free Magic Database software that I can easily use?

I would like the following specifications:
  1. I would like the controls to be easy to use.
  2. It would be perfered if the display is visually apealing. I've tried one database where it is Black text on a dark brown background.
  3. A way to update with packets that come from the person.
  4. A way to have the card art installed much like the Update packets would.
  5. It has a search feature that not only includes what type of card but also by special abilities it has.

If anyone can get me the info I would greatly appreciate it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Post

I've recently started playing Magic (like 3 or 4 moths ago) and I have developed a hatred for "super" proxy decks. I made this card for fun because of my dislike for teh proxies.

(By the way, sorry if reviving this is thread angers anyone...)

I started playing in grade seven, that was when our school started up a "Magic Club", which I believe was the season when Onslaught came out. My first deck was actually a precon from Odyssey, flashback was a very fun feature. I later moved onto Mono-Black Control, and then started going into Type 1, which was the format that our club played essentially to ensure that everyone that had cards could play.

We hosted an open tournament at our school, Type 1 open to all students (either from grades 1 to 12 or 6 to 12), and I managed to make it to the quarter-finals. Nothing surprising here, no one came in with any of the P9 cards, so this isn't some awesome feat or anything.

For next year's tournament, I went in with a mono-blue deck that consisted of 16 counters and 3 Misdirections (a fourth in the sideboard). I could've made it into top 8, but claimed I lost to my friend since he had a better chance at beating the toughest opponent in the event over me (he ran Stasis). Unfortunately, he didn't, but I didn't really care. The prizes were Mirrodin stuff anyway, which hardly interests me.

I hope to participate in real Type 1 tournaments in the future and possibly get into Type 2 also, but to be quite honest, I haven't exactly played since then.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Wow, I didn't know Magic players still existed! Figures it'd be on GFF where I'd find some. I played, starting at the rath cycle, but I quit at the mercadian masques' block. My best desk was a green fattie deck; had verdant force and thorn elemental in it with a lot of good creatures, can't list all of them there. I lost it though. I made a reanimation deck, but it wasn't taht good.

Jeez, I can't beleive this game still exists.

omg!

so there really was a crash once again?

well i got a question here:

there are 2 questions concerning library of leng

You know i love necropotence and i dont mind the drawback much but still i wonder if i could just keep the cards on my hand....

1. you know the text changed, like on spellbook, instead of "you have no discard phase" it says "you have no maximum handsize"

2. its about cycling: can I cycle on my library (so that I just redraw the cycled card) and still use side-effects of cycling?

as I understand the rules cycling requires to discard that card, while library of leng says "whenever you're forced to discard.

I personally think that it should work because I get to the step when I HAVE TO dicard a card (the cycled one) so I could put it on library instead (which is before I draw one)

for your first question you would still have a discard phase, you could just hold as many cards in your hand as you want, allowing for a 10 card hand. You still have the discard phase so that if you have cards like grave digger, then you actually have a graveyard to pull cards from. Seems like it was changed for a stratigic reason.

As for the the second question, probably not for two reasons. Most rules now force you to suffle the libary after cycling a card just so someone doesnt have a repeating stratagy like that one. second reason is if either one of your cards says you have to discard it, then you will eventually have to lose that card.

How ya doing, buddy?

1. Library of Leng has been errataed to say "You have no maximum hand size."

2. Effectively, yes, you can end up cycling the same card repetitively. For "side-effects," I'm assuming you mean cards like Astral Slide and Lightning Rift, which, indeed, is a combo with those cards.

Nowhere in the Comprehensive Rules does it say that you have to shuffle your library after cycling a card with the exception of landcycling. I'm assuming Mononoke's referring to the more traditional cycling since Mononoke wanted to re-draw the card, anyway.

Library of Leng allows the controller to replace the effect anytime he or she wants. It doesn't "eventually" wear off.

great! thanks a lot.

Thats what I expected.(by the way, necro never shred the graveyard in the 1st place...ya know cards coult still be destroyed.

Actually its for Gempalm Polluter as part of my next zombie deck (very fast paced, and with a nice touch of suicide) , in case you still know me, you should remember that i love zombies

since library is a slower in the 1st place i will just use it, because its good for both, necro and gempalm.

I'm gonna post it anytime soon

[edit]

errrm, well im kinda getting unsure again, because of this:

"04.10.2004 You can't use the Library of Leng ability to place a discarded card on top of your library when you discard a card as a cost, because costs aren't effects."

Discard should be a cost in cycling (It says "Dicard this card: ...")

well as i said, i dont mind the drawback of necro....having a perfect hand (or at least close to) is still cool enough IMO.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I was going off of the lastest edition rules that doesnt show anything big or note worthy about cycling so I went off of the best judgement from games I have had to judge where placing a card on your deck would require you to shuffle it again, and where other cards that allows continous can only activate once discarded.

Like I said I only whent by the latest edition rules and games I have judged so i could still be wrong in some parts.

It's quite alright. The rules have changed a plethora of times with the biggest rules change being in Sixth Edition, so I'm not really going to get on your case about it. Some older players had a difficult time adapting to the new rules because of this (i.e. Untapping a creature doesn't remove it from combat any more, interrupts have been errataed to say instants). I even screwed up the previous ruling pretty horribly, and I'm fairly new to the game (I started around Invasion). :/

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Actually, there is a term called "landcycling" that appeared in Scourge (and one purple card in Time Spiral). It's read as "2, Discard this card: Search your library for a [specified land type] card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your library afterwards." The specified land type would appear in the name of the landcycling ability (i.e. swampcycling, islandcycling).

I started playing around the time that Invasion was being released. However: soon after I chased down the out of print series such as the Urza sets etc.

I stopped playing for a while but recently signed up to Magic Online. I cannot say that I am an expert at making decks but I am Ok and very keen to improve.

When I played in school, I was the annoying blue and black player that everyone gets frustrated with.
