You can also use EXP Share to train EVs if you are fighting significantly harder pokemon for a certain EV, I think?

I really didn't bother with it ever since Red/Blue because even if I EV trained the pokemon I wanted to, due to the way moves functioned it still wouldn't be enough to help them.

Now though, I might just fiddle with it :E

Also wow just found a female Combee. <3 Honey Trees.
Yeah, the pokemon with the EXP Share will earvn EVs along with the pokemon that are actually battling, though they only get half that value. For example, beating a Magneton nets you 2 Sp. Att EVs. With that setup, the fighter gets 2 and the one sharing gets 1 EV. If the one doing the brawling has a Macho Brace on, he gains 4 EVs from Magneton (earning him 1 Sp. Att point per Magneton) and the other gets 2 EVs.

Though I agree with you all, that this kind of training really didn't have much of a point before. Now though, you have a means of easily going online and taking on other folks and the above would give you an edge. Congrats on the Combee, though. Vespiquen (sp?) has some nice exclusive moves (the Order line).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I just got Pearl today so I only have a level 14 Piplup and a level 4 Shinx..

It's great fun though. I've been wanting to get this for so long. I had enough of Emerald.

My friendcode is 3780 5516 8329. Maybe I'll meet one of you on there.. Just bear with me, I'm still new ;D

Btw, do you seriously have to beat the game to transfer pokemon from the GBA games? I was hoping to use some pokemon from there to start off. Like a ralts.. :/

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Actually according to Serebii the pokemon w/ EXP Share will not get half EVs >_>

Bleh on my way to 7th Gym. The trainers in this game are such assholes :P

Yup, you have to beat the Elite Four and see all of the Sinnoh pokemon. Serebii.net's got it explained pretty clearly here.

You're right, looks like my understanding of it was wrong. In fact, it's even more effective as it doesn't halve the earned EV for the weaker pokemon at all.

So the Macho Brace/Pokerus effect isn't transferred via the EXP Share, but you don't even need it knowing the above. You could simply prioritize who you want to gain certain EVs faster. In this case, the one holding the brace would gain 4 EVs from a Magneton, while the other would only get the standard rate.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Simply ask for an egg or a starter from one of the other games, as folks over on GamingAge's forums are doing.

Yeah, for a better explanation just take a gander at NeoGAF's Diamond/Pearl thread. They have folks breeding/trading starters and their eggs (one guy was supposed to get a Gible but ended up with a Bulbasaur egg, for example).

Well, the main point of having to beat the game first before you can transfer is so that you'll actually use the new Pokémon. What's the point of introducing new monsters if you're not going to use them right at the start?

Anyway, I added everyone's FCs to Wiki. I don't think I missed anyone, but I could be wrong >_> Chaotic, I don't know what version you have, so I left it blank.

One question. I got this Friendly/Happ/whatever app for the Tech, and I have no clue how it works. All I see are my Pokémon floating around and bumping into each other...

Oh, and I made Poffins with my little sister! It's fun!!

Oh and yeah!! Raine won first place in the Cute contest! She's my Buizel ^_^

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

At the risk of sounding absentminded, How does one go about asking for an egg through GTS? I don't remember seeing that option.

Tap & Hold, if it runs away it hates you. If it does the cry and sits there, it doesn't hate you. If 1 heart appears it likes you a little, 1 big heart, likes you a bit more, 2 little hearts, it likes you a lot, 2 big hearts, it loves you.

I think.

I think he means using WFC to trade for eggs. Since a lot of forums are trading eggs or old version pokemon for things.

NeoGAF Diamond/Pearl thread

You can see just browsing through the thread that they're simply trading the eggs as if they were fully hatched pokemon, so there probably isn't a trick to it or anything. Can't test it at the moment (no wireless router).

Edit: Goddamn, this thread moves fast. But yeah, Lacerta's got it. They're just trading 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen starters or whatever the hell else people are wanting. Ii won't be too difficult for you to pick up a Ralts egg.

Well, if anyone wants to test it out I'd be willing to.

I'd definitely have to get a feebas egg as well, there's no logical reasoning behind fishing in every spot in Mt. Coronet for 4 spots that change at random every day.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Leafeon's easily the best looking Eevolution, IMO.

1: EXP Share does not give Pokemon EV (Effort Value) points. I can vouch for this.

2: Macho Brace doubles the number of EV points the equipped Pokemon earns in battle. It doesn't have to defeat the opposing Pokemon; it simply has to take part in the battle. Thus, you can have a low-level Pokemon with Macho Brace begin, swap it out for something stronger, and still earn the EV points.

3: The Pokerus also doubles earned EV points. It functions identically to the Macho Brace, but can wear off. When you turn the game off, keep all Pokemon infected with the Pokerus in your PC.

4: The Macho Brace and the Pokerus can be stacked and the result is exponential. For example, a Pokemon with only the Macho Brace will earn 4 Speed EVs from fighting a Pikachu; 2 base, multiplied by two. The same is true for a Pokemon with only the Pokerus.

But if the Pokemon has both the Pokerus and the Macho Brace, it will earn 8 Speed EV points in one battle. (2 x 2) x 2 = 8.

This can make maxxing out your EVs much easier and faster.

5: Every Pokemon offers one specific EV type when faced in a wild battle. The type of point depends upon the respective Pokemon, but the type never changes within one species. All evolutions of the base species contribute the same type of EV point. The kind given is typically identical to the Pokemon's most outstanding stat score. I.E. Alakazam's best stat is Special Atk., so it gives Spec. Atk. EVs. Conversely, a Golem's best stat is Defense, so it gives Defense EVs.

6: The number of EV points a Pokemon offers is consistent with the number of evolutions within its line. Pokemon that do not evolve give 1 EV point. Pokemon that have one pre-evolution give 2 EV points. Pokemon with two pre-evolutions give 3 EV points.

7: Trainer battles do not give EV points.

8: All Pokemon have the capacity to earn a maximum of 510 EV points. However, no Pokemon can earn more than 252 points in any one category. All excess EV points earned after 252 do not count toward anything.

You may intentionally allocate these points into whichever stat score you choose. This is done by battling wild Pokemon. However, it's very difficult to make certain that the Pokemon you encounter will give the EV points you desire, so it can be a long process. You must choose the place you battle carefully.

You'll generally wish to make sure the EV points your Pokemon earns go into their best natural attribute. Giving a Golem lots of Special Atk. EVs is quite pointless, as its score will never be that high and it doesn't learn any moves that make a high Special Atk. worthwhile. Conversely, giving your Chansey a lot of HP EVs is certainly a good idea.
Sometimes, it's a good idea to put a bunch of EV points into a Pokemon's weakest defense attribute or Speed, to make it more resistant or faster.

9: A Pokemon's personality makes a difference in the maximum potential of its attributes. Most personalities raise a specific attribute by 10%, but at the expense of another attribute which is lowered by 10%. Hence, some personalities are never desirable, as they will reduce a Pokemon's defense scores and there are no times when this is useful. Personality is important to consider when deciding if you should bother EV training a Pokemon.

A handful of personalities have no effect on attribute scores whatsoever. The need for Pokemon with these personalities is very limited.

Also, the HP statistic is unaffected by personalities. Personalities will only factor in Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed scores.

10: Pokemon freshly caught in the wild have no earned EV points. They do not gain them by having battled your own Pokemon before being caught.

That's the rudimentary 101 course on EVs.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I guess I could be wrong, but I messed with the EXP Share in Ruby and didn't notice any EV effects. Perhaps I miscalculated or something has changed since then.

I dunno. I never needed the EXP Share to EV train, honestly.

I don't plan to battle at all until the endgame stages and I'm not particularly overzealous about capturing different pokemon (I have Diamond) so the value of giving out my code is low at best, but what the heck.

Has anyone had much luck with the Underground? I've been trying my hand at it, but can't figure the darn thing out. I see yellow dots occasionally, but whenever I get near them, my red dot obscures them and makes it impossible to find anything. =\

Anyone have some tips for this?
