Still in the process of downloading it, I'll need to let this one run overnight.

Also I should've mentioned that the demo is about 1.08 gigs, so expect it to take a while if you aren't on a super-fast connection.

How ya doing, buddy?

Yah... the auto I tried, the one with assault, was atrocious at aiming, you basically have to be crouched to aim it well. The guided rockets didn't seem to be able to follow my mouse movements that well either. Also, no matter where you hit the mech, it takes about 4-5 shots to bring it down, so basically you spend your entire clip of rockets on one walker.

If you grab it off fileplanet with a basic regged account, you can pull it down at speeds of capped 250 kb. Took me about an hour and a half.

I only played one round, so maybe Im judging to soon, but honestly it confirmed what I orginally thought, just more of the same. I would buy it if it were say 20 dollars, about the price of an X-Pack, but $50? Don't kid yourselves EA.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've actually rather enjoyed the BF2142 demo so far.

I never really enjoyed the Battlefield series for whatever reason, but I guess I like the whole futuristic spin on things. I'm a sucker for not-real weapons.

I'm enjoying the Titan mode. It's alot more interesting than just keeping flags to win. Having to board the enemy ship and destroy it, then escape, it's so much more interesting. However, i'm having trouble changing and equiping items

I really like both game, BF2 is more "tactical", you kind of need to know a minimum what you're doing, but what I like about BF2142 is that it's a little more arcade, so I kind of tend to like it more XD and again I just love futuristic games.

and yeah the Titan mode is so awesome!, that's why I kind of play more the demo than BF2 now XD if they do something like that in BF2 i'll be sure to play it too XD

I think bf2142 give more importance to vehicles and I kind of like that too ^^ man I love the hover tank XD and I so love the pods thing that I always spaw in the titan just to use the escape pods XD

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm loving the demo for 2142 myself. Inhert pretty much hit the difference between the two and I tend to like more arcaic typ games myself (except when it comes to fighting games). I like how 2142 also feels a bit faster too. My only conflict with it is that there needs to be more grenades & sticky bombs for the assault and scout roles. Other then that...

Thats funny, most peoples complaints in the BF forums (and mine also) is that the soldiers are slower, and the vehicles are slower (esp. the tanks). They seriously feel like you are navigating a hovering Old Ironsides from way back when.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I think by fast they mean that the action is a bit more arcade-like. BF2 is definitely more realistic, so there's not much in the way of the "heat of battle," if you know what I mean. Often times, you'll be dead before you know what hit you.

The thing I do like about 2142 is that it does cater a bit to the cinematic experience. When you get in a walker and hear the servos whining as you take your first few baby steps, or when you take your first launch pod onto the enemy titan and begin boarding, you get a sense that you're important to the cause as a soldier.

BF2, I would say, goes great lengths to make you dispensable.

I'll buy the game once the price goes down to 30 bucks or below, but it came out much too soon for me to want to spend more money on it. The few cheap thrills I do get from bringing down an enemy walker or grabbing the dogtags from a downed enemy aren't worth all the trouble I'll bet dice will cause with support.

One other thing I wanted to add about BF2142, is that I don't like how they've remodeled the various classes into just three. For whatever reason, the engineer now has anti-tank rockets. Assaultmen, you know, the guys leading the charge per say, now have control of med packs. That just seems a bit contradictory, that a guy who's supposed to be on the front line fighting also happens to have the responsibility of staying back and healing. I personally feel this will cause people to lose some desire towards healing people. Honestly, whats more fun shooting people or healing someone?

The Battlefield series has always been notorious for having no teamwork whatsoever when a large group of random people start playing together, true to any game really. BF2 made a nice first step by implementing the squad system, but it's not enough. I think 2142, with its arcady goals, has eliminated a bit of the edge towards teamwork that BF2 always lended itself to.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yea, I think in all the games I have played in the demo and the beta, there has been pretty much no squad work. Even when I had some unlocks in the beta still no squad work.

It makes me sad cause I really liked that aspect of BF2.

Also, the fact that tEA eliminated all of you standard weapons and just made them unlocks is BS. ie. frag grenades, diflbrilators, ect...

I actually think I like that they restructured the classes into only 4 (not 3). They did a decent job of making it so that each class has a bit more worth and diversity: I mean anti-tank and Engineer in BF2 had similar guns (shotguns and SMGs), so now rather than having one entirely defensive and the other entirely offensive, an engineer can do either task and adapt to the situation. Also I think the equipment loadout (shame they're all locked in the demo) will more or less expand the classes to what they previously were except with more options. Like being able to have a sniper with C4 instead of satchels, etc.

It does seem a little odd that assault got medic abilities though, that seems to be something that would be more fitting for support. Then again, I can see why they did that since it does make the class more dynamic and forces you to choose whether you want to help in attacking or just heal other players (not to mention the second Medic unlock was almost the same as the US Assault gun in BF2).

BF2142 discussion aside for a moment.

If you like racing games, go get this mod:

http://br.sircommunity.com/

I suppose you should also get it if you like being a turret gunner in a combat racing game.

They can at least tell the players that the servers are down by posting a note on the website. This server connecting has been going on for at least 2 hours.

I'm sure a lot of people are mad at the moment.

The two classes (Engineer and Anti-Tank) could play effectly both defensive and offensive roles. It's simply a matter of skill. As an engineer, you have mines, which are obviously your defense, and defending things with a shotgun is super-effective. Offensively, you just change your attack strategy. Instead of rushing head on like an assault would, you strategically make your way towards the enemy using cover from rocks and such so that your shotgun becomes useful. If that fails and your forced into a long-range battle, you're equipped with 4 grenades, and a pistol. The pistol is actually quite effective so long as you can aim it, which if I can just about anyone should be able to.

As for AT, it's basically the same thing. The default gun, the SMG, has poor power, but has more range if you fire in single shot mode as opposed to auto. Basically like firing a slightly souped up pistol. With AT you can generally charge in if theres only 2-3 people. As for long range, pull out your rockets. They call it Rocket Sniping, and it's the most fun and rewarding killing you can do. Aim your rockets, and fire away at the person aiming for you from the other side of the zone. Most of the time, you'll end up hitting and killing him before he can finish you off. AT obviously is also suited for Attack and Defense.

I think most already know how I feel about snipers. They are overpowered and aren't punished in any way for being a waste of space on the team. There should be no way the sniper can climb up 5 flights of stairs on a crane, and booby trap the last 2 on the way up, it make's him next to invincible.

Agreed. If they turned FF on for claymores, but left it off for mines, I think it would balance it out a little bit.
Or if you could blow up claymores with a grenade or c4 pack, that would really cut down on the spam and the overpowered snipers. Invincible claymores was a really retarded idea.

Sorry, I can't have folks playing down my love class (engineer) and not give it a fair defense >_>

Erm anyways, mods like Battleracer don't generally get much support, so I usually avoid downloading them <_<

Honestly? Not really. I like the idea of a racer using the driving physics in BF2, but I'd have to see more modifications done a la Mario Kart or Twisted Metal before I took any interest in it.

KrazyTaco: I am not sure what you said about engineer class, but in this the focus is on the car racing. There is only a driver class, which gets a knife, pistol, wrench, and flare gun (a modded silenced pistol that now shoots aircraft defense flares. No real purpose, just there for entertainment value).

And this mod is by the Sir community. On the forums there is already a discussion of how to make being a spectator more exciting, and there is actually some code in the mod already for a lawn chair "vehicle" for spectators, so I'm pretty sure they plan to implement a lot more in the future. There is also talk of implementing a demolition derby game mode in a future release too.

Skexis: Most races use the USMC buggy, but modded. The driver gets the use of a hood-mounted mini-minigun to shoot at other drivers. If a second player wants to ride with you, they can man the .50 cal on the back. The third seat has been modded to remove the LMG, so you can repair your car without getting out of it.

There is also a slow-recharging but extremely powerful afterburner boost.

I hope that explains the mod a little better. It is a racing game, but shooting and ramming is very much a part of it. It is generally a lot more fun to shoot someone till they light on fire or explode than it is to just pass them.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
