Ehh, I got myself a regular DS, actually. It was only ~90 bucks used, and it was in good condition.
I actually find the regular DS more comfortable than the DS Lite... my hands are fucking huge, so the lite is a taaaad too small for me ![]() I've got Tetris DS, Mario Kart DS, MP:H (don't really like this game =\), Mario And Luigi: Partners In Time (LOVE it), and Brain Age right now. I'm holding back on purchasing Gyukaten Saiban off of play-asia for a bit... I wanna save up a little. Besides, I need to get my car's oil changed soon. D= I've been loving this thing so far... one of the other things I'm going to get for it eventually is NSMB, and Trauma Center. I'm considering Children of Mana and Castlevania, but I was never a gigantic fan of Castlevania and I'm unsure of how Mana is. Any thought, 'Lix? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I've played some of the other Mana games (Legend of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3) and this new Mana game looks extremely promising. I was totally hooked on the previous ones, I hope this will be the same.
On another note, I guess I'll go with the DS Lite since my hands are relatively small. The battery life is what's pushing me. If it truly is what it claims to be, I'll be set. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'm definitely buying it when it's out in english, that's for sure. Hell yeah. You need to be one for dungeon crawlers or you might find it repetitive. Some of the dungeons can go on for quite awhile, and you're going to need to replay through a few of them for side-quests and item hunting. The japanese version is surprisingly easy to understand. The only real problem is (well, lack of guides on GameFAQs for a start) the gems which you collect, because the gem translation guide available means you're going to be checking up from time to time. So yeah, I'd preferably wait for an english release, and keep the japanese release as a collector's item. Sounds fair, huh? Oh uh... Dawn of Sorrow? Hmm, well, I picked that up and was addicted. Then again, I completed Aria of Sorrow just before buying my DS. Oh, I just remembered. Dawn of Sorrow on the DS Lite looks almost identical to on the original DS. So yeah, since you have an original DS, I'd say go for it. If you're into flashing your DS/flash carts/SD cards and such, that's a great way of testing games before you buy. Which is perfect in my situation, because I don't like importing japanese titles without knowing too much about them. Then again, if you're getting something like this, you probably aren't going legit. My supercard sd/superkey should arrive soon. Then I can finally try out some of the more obscure titles (japanese, mostly) and the ones I'm not willing to pay for ($30 for Zoo Keeper? fuck that.) easily. But, like all games, this doesn't have much replay value. In Dawn of Sorrow for example, there's a decent amount of modes available. But think, are you going to bother playing through the game twice, to collect souls and such? Sure, getting the Soul Eater Ring for 300k sounds interesting (which I have, and I've only noticed a slight improvement in collecting souls), and sure, collecting souls which you've missed the first time around is neat, but apart from that, that's it. When you beat the game, it unlocks hard mode, Julius mode, sound mode, and a place-enemies-anywhere-and-beat-the-shit-out-of-them-at-your-leisure mode. Which is nice, because I like modes. I like them good. But I'm not too interested in Julius mode myself -- hard mode is no different from normal mode. All they dois decrease all of the weapons power. Which sucks. But it's still another title I'd highly recommend. That's the trouble with DS games though, they lack replayability. The only ones which have real replayability I've found are Ouendan, Bomberman DS and Daigasso. I should be getting some more soon though, so I can't rule out a few obscure titles just yet. Oh, and definitely get Gyakuten Saiban Best Price. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. $30 for Phoenix Wright is a steal, and you get to act all cool by having the japanese version. If Ouendan didn't exist, I'd probably consider it my favorite title.

SO I played MP:H off a Gamestop download kiosk... and while the graphics are pretty awesome, the game sounded like I was playing a Gameboy Color. My first instinct though, was to blame this on the fact that it had to stuff 2 levels of MP:H into like 3 kb.
Can anyone confirm if the full game has like actual sound effects, or is it actually supposed to sound terrible? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Not convinced? Then take THIS! And this and this, this, HADOOUUKEN! EDIT: Also, I finally got myself a wireless router, so no more bitching firewall and the throwing of a dongle. YAY! I was speaking idiomatically. |
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Actually Malmer, big handed people may still apply. I'm a 6'5" monstrosity myself, with large hands to boot, and I actually find this MORE comfortable than the old one. It has to do with the spacing of the buttons. I felt cramped on the old DS, whereas this one feels comfortable. I'm posting the pic under a spoiler tag, so as not to stretch the tables. Spoiler:
And then one that WON'T stretch tables. ![]() Sexxxxy. FELIPE NO ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
I still wanna give it a chance, though... the thing is that I like FPS's quite a bit, but the problem with MP:H for me is a) I find the controls a little awkward, even using the thumb stylus, and b) My hands cramp HORRIBLY after a few minutes of playing it, no matter what I do. So yeah, I might wind up doing that eventually. The awkwardness I might be able to get over eventually, but I'm not sure about the cramping. ![]() How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Deni, you only wanted to post that pic to proclaim your Mother 2 leetness
BTW, you rule. I fucking LOVED those stickers that came with the guide Bubble Monkey FTW Jam it back in, in the dark.

Also, yes, Bubble Monkey FTW. Though I'm a Apple Kid's mouse guy, myself. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |

Hmm....seems like the only Mario Kart DS games out are all $34.99 for a new copy and $29.99 for a used copy (at least at Gamestop). Er....Whatever...Any other games that will last a while because I don't plan on buying too many games too often. Mario Kart DS is a shoe-in, my anticipation for this game has been too much.

Animal Crossing: Wild World will last you a while, as long as you stay interested in it (like Nintendogs, it's made to be played a small bit everyday). You could also get Metroid Prime: Hunters and Tetris DS, as they'll keep you busy for a while, especially with their multiplayer.

Wait. Sonic, what are you doing? ![]() Crystal white cases? Gigantic green age rating? Oh, well.. ![]() OH GOD, YOU'RE FAT TOO. AND YES THIS SORT OF HURT MY HAND. ![]() Sonic, you used to be cool ;_; Sonic Rush is a great game and everything, and quite difficult in parts. But.. but these cases are a crime against humanity. With that said, I'm sure Infernal has loads of them. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Lix, I'd like to have one of THOSE cases, since I like to carry around a bunch of games in one case.
Much more convenient for trips, you see And yes, the box is GINORMOUS (EB) FELIPE NO

Ahaha, I love how they went to the trouble of increasing the size of the ugly green rating for the Sonic case. THEY'RE ALMOST AS BIG AS AN XBOX. ;__;
![]() Best part is Castlevania's instruction manual is really the only one that needs such a retarded massive case. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Oh yeah that's Konami for you. My Lost In Blue manual is printed in 6 languages. More languages than are actually selectable in the game! Crazy! And yeah it's about 140 pages.
The other shit part of the giant white cases is suddenly, putting artwork on the spine is TOO MUCH TRUBBLE. It's particuarly mysterying against with Lost in Blue which otherwise uses the translucent case for full effect with a REVERSE cover. You get island scenery on the inside. How ya doing, buddy? |
So I'm totally ready to get a DS Lite now but would it be better just to wait? I don't have a massive amount of cash on my hands at the moment and all it would be used for is to probably play my GBA games, since yes I still have the original GBA and I just realized the other day how useless the screen really is. The only thing pulling me back is that I don't want to go through the anguish of ohmygod my screen has a dead pixel right in the middle of Mario's nose or something. I'm figuring in a couple of shipments all the bugs would be worked out but how common are bugs like dead pixels and WIFI not connecting, etc.
All the good games are coming out in Fall anyways. How ya doing, buddy? |
If you have a dead pixel then just have the machine replaced. Not a big deal. Nintendo has excellent customer service and consistantly makes sturdy products.
If you haven't purchased the DS yet than you can already look forward to an incredible amount of AAA titles available for the system already once you purchase the system. As it is there are too many good games out. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Most lcds, you can expect a dead pixel here and there... but I haven't seen any on my DS. On the PSP it's easy to see when the screen goes black, but generally it's always a white background so I haven't noticed anything... where do you guys usually notice the dead pixels? Maybe I just don't have any... either way, one or two won't bug me too much.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Agreed with Acer. My biggest problem when I bought the DS Lite was "which of these fucking games am I going to get."

![]() NOBLE pink announced today, to hit Japan land next month. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Pink can be noble? New one for me.
FELIPE NO |
Oh yeah, noble like Princess Peach!
100% of the people having a problem complain about it on the internet of angst. Dead/stuck pixels are actually pretty rare - you just hear of all of them. I asked the store manager at the local EB about it, and he never had a single return (old and new DS alike). Just check pixels while you are at the store, unless those five minutes of checking are too much of a problem for you to overcome. Wifi not connecting? Just get a router that isn't total crap. Ofcause, if you won't be buying games for it until fall anyway, save your money... What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Dead pixels are quite common. Stores will either deny seeing any or mention that they've only seen a couple just to get you a sale. I think I've spotted a dead pixel on the top screen of my DS Lite, but it's at the bottom right and I can't see it very often. It doesn't really bother me because I usually stick with 1/2 brightness setting. I'd rather have my DS Lite last longer than charging it every 5 hours due to having death-like brightness. Besides, the colours wash out on 3 or 4. Then again, 3 and 4 is only there for when you're playing outdoors. If I somehow stuff up flashing my DS Lite when my gear arrives, I'll just use the "it doesn't turn on" excuse to return it for another one. A great way of finding dead pixels is by turning the brightness to 4, going into pictochat, and ejecting a DS game. That way you have two magneta screens you can scan for dead pixels which are all one colour. But I'm surprised at how little I notice this one. I didn't even see it until two weeks after purchase. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
