To be fair, I beat the entire game without mages. It wasn't hard at all, because to be quite honest magic isn't very useful in this game except for nailing flying enemies and even that's only useful until you get the skill which lets melee attacks do it instead.

I also was never implying that they should restrict equipment but it would be nice to see a system where once you started down a path it was difficult to wind up on the same one as someone else. I do like the system, I just think it could have been done better with a little more effort. It was still a classy game that I had very little issues with.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I used heavy armor and weapons on all of my characters, and I had no dedicated mage at any point during the game, except for super-hard battles like Yazmat. Black magic in this game is less than useless, so there is no need to specialize any character in that area. White and green magic spells were dispersed equally between all of my characters.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I hardly used mages for black magick either. And I also hardly used curative magicks for the final boss, but replaced the gambits with x-potions.

Maybe the International Zodiac Job System will have this. Apparently, it'll have 12 license boards to make a job-system like build for your characters.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

A more advanced version of FFX's Sphere Grid perhaps? It sounds like a similar comparison at least.

Sepharite, whereabouts in the game are you? I've been trying to guess where you are but you haven't been letting many hints out...

I am in the First Ascent, 40 hours into the game. I haven't been doing any hunting at all. And seeing how I haven't gotten the full 100 hours (money's worth) yet, I'll start right before I finish the last boss or so. Oh, and having Reddas on my team is so useless. Plus, he's taking my precious XP. I just kill him and leave him dead the entire time. He doesn't even have unlimited potions like that small kid, forgot his name.

AI think something is wrong with my game/ps2. Sometimes, some of the character's moves just stall. I'd be waiting patiently for Curaga but I end of getting my ass handed over then the Game Over screen pops up.

Oh btw, did anyone level up all 6 characters equally or mainly stuck with the 3?

I was speaking idiomatically.

No, that's pretty normal. Happened to me all the time. It's pretty stupid.

And I only used three people. No sense using the others.

I've levelled up everyone but Penelo because I told myself I'd never use her. All the others are at levels 55-60 respectively.

I've never had any experience with characters stalling though.

The point is if your main 3 die altogether (which is unlikely though), you basically get a second life. But wow, you're the first I know, Wolf xD My last three characters are lv 10 with 3000+ LP. >.>

And I've been experiencing it a lot of stalling near the end of the game. Never happened in the beginning. It must be my PS2 reader having trouble with the centre of the DVD =/

I leveled all of my characters up to level 99. I leveled them evenly too, so that there would not be any drastic differences in their levels. Having a second party really helped me out on several occasions.

My game never stalled.

How ya doing, buddy?

My games never stalled, but watch the meter on the bottom left. See of it's full or says "queue." I know my characters seemed to be waiting--and it was for the meter to fill to act.

I hated Reddas, too. But, keep playing!

I guess since it happened to both you, Talaysen, and Sepharite it isn't a glitch, but my characters often stalled as well. It really pissed me off a few times, but I managed. It happened a lot at The Pharos at Ridorana First/Second/Third Ascent.

I only leveled three characters. There's no need to level all of them.

Think it has to do with how the action queue is executed. I think normal attacks have higher priority, so they can go before some spells you have charged up or something. If you notice, during the "stalling", usually it's just a bunch of people attacking while one character is sitting there with a spell they should've casted a few seconds ago.

Not sure if that's entirely accurate, though.

Hrm, Panthers in the Gulmore Jungle give you around 45000 gil if you sell 99 Coeurl Pelts, and a few thousand more if you sell the other loot as well. Else you could try chaining skeletons in the paramina rift, but I'm not too sure if there are zones where they pop up a lot and without much interference from other types of mobs.

I was fighting Exodus last night and noticed that everyone frooze and waited for the animation to finish on some of his attacks before they acted so I imagine that's the cause of it.

I have heavy armour on Basch and Fran (For the strencth boost), light armour on Vaan and Penelo (HP boost and speed boost, especially as Penelo uses a ninja sword in my game) and mage armour on Ashe and Balthier (For the magic power boosts naturally). You'll find that the higher level mystic armour has a huge boost to magic power and makes your mages very powerful. I've not even been to the Feywood yet in my game but I was clearing out fights in the Nabudis deadlands or whatever it's called with a couple of spells each time.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

What's the best armor to equip with Katanas? Light for the speed boost? Heavy armor would up the strength, which increases damage for the katana. Hmm, maybe heavy armor and a mystic helm?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

A katana's damage is based on magic power, not strength so heavy armour is a waste. For maximum damage equip all mystic armour and remember to cast faith instead of bravery.

Damn I want to play FFXII a lot right now, it would be my 2nd time through, 1st time in english, but read this, from wikipedia:

Quote:
An international version of the game, titled Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System (ファイナルファンタジーXII インターナショナル ゾディアックジョブシステム, Fainaru Fantajī Towerubu Intānashonaru Zodiakku Jobu Shisutemu?), is set to be released on August 9, 2007 in Japan as part of both Final Fantasy 20th anniversary and Ivalice Alliance campaigns. The game will include twelve grids available (instead of the original one), each corresponding to a different Zodiac sign and job. The battle system as a whole will also be tweaked; guest characters and summons will now be controllable by the player, and pressing the L1 button will accelerate the game's speed. Additionally, the game will feature the English voices and the widescreen 16:9 ratio support of the North American version, as well as a bonus disc based on the one initially released with the North American version. Other new features such as new licenses, new spells and new gambits have been shown as well. A new "Trial Mode" will allow the player to hunt monsters 100 different maps to gain items and money. There will also be a "New Game+" option, as well as another unannounced mode of play.
That sounds awesome.

So... basically it's Final Fantasy XII - "Sorry, We Fucked Up the First Time" Edition. Not to be snarky, I just hate Japan's habit of "Final Mixing" shit. It's the opposite to most people's gripes with PC games and patching.

Actually it's like... here we added new shit into the game, buy it if you want it, don't buy it if you don't. It's your choice. I already beat FFXII and was happy with it. And now with extra stuff, I really would like to play it.

Either way I have a modded PS2, so I get to play for free.

Well... interesting, the ol' "jump your shit." Let me address both of those posts.

First of all, forgive me for not clarifying. Apparently, though I see that people would just love to jump my shit, I misjudged how most people look at FFXII. Somehow, trying to convince me that the License Board is a fundamentally complete idea, that magic was worth a shit as the game progressed outside of healing gambits, and that Balthier and Fran were the worst at what they were supposed to be great at (guns and bows)... you know what, fuck ALL of that.

Of course I could say it was planned from the start, but that would throw in some kind of assumption that I felt that FFXII was a completely flawless game. You see, I don't. It isn't like Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix is something I would use to point out that the original Kingdom Hearts 2 should have had a remake of a Gameboy Advance game.

A more focused license board, faster gameplay, more (and hopefully better/useful) spells... extra modes, incentives to replay the game. At least when Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne was released, it was what we got here in the US. I'm not terribly fond of not only getting a seemingly half finished product, but Japan gets the improvement and I'm left sitting here not wondering about money mongering so much as "stuff I would have liked to have seen in the original release."

This new game is way more than "Oh, you get a special battle against Sephiroth." I can make the distinction between Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7 International over Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Star Ocean 3 of all things.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
