I'm going with the Wii version for the 16:9 alone. Those visuals are too pretty to waste on 4:3 S-Video cable. I tried the controls at E3, and the Wii worked pretty damned well. Not perfect, but very fun nontheless. Still, I need progressive scan for this game. I just do.

You guys sure the Wii version is the only one with 16x9? I'd think that would be on the GCN version at least. I'm not surprised about prog scan though.

Yes 16x9 is only on Wii. GCN will have progressive scan though but not 16x9.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Nope. Only regular, composite a/v cables.

This is what will be in the box when Wii ships.

The Wii system comes packaged with one Wii-mote, one nunchuk attachment, a Wii stand (which supports the system in its vertical position), an AC adaptor, a composite audio/video cable, a sensor bar, a sensor bar stand, and two AA batteries for the controller. In the US and Europe, Wii will also come bundled with a copy of Wii Sports, a five-game compilation (on one disc) that features such titles as Wii Sports Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf and Boxing. In Japan, however, Wii Sports will be sold separately for approximately 4800 yen.

There's something I haven't yet grasped about the aspect ratio.
It was stated that most Wii games will abudantly make use of the 16:9 format. What I wonder is whether or not this option will be forced.

Playing the new Zelda in Widescreen makes surely for an intriguing experience. However, I'd like to know if I'll be able to revert back to 4:3 Pan Scan on my Wii version, without having the display framed by black borders (Letterbox mode, so to speak). I still own a 4:3 cathode ray tube and I'd love to experience the Wii version of this title at its fullest, even on my old screen.

Yes! More so than ever since SNK announced just the other day that they're chucking Metal Slug 6 into it now! *Misses high five, makes snorting noises while laughing*

Well obviously it's an option. Duh! Not everyone has a TV that can display in 16:9 or at least correctly. 16:9 mode only happens if you use component cables. With the regular composite cables you're stuck in 4:3.

Sorry, unless they add a letterbox (which imo is a shitty option) then you're stuck with 4:3 until you get a TV that can do 16:9.

I don't think adding letterbox isn't shitty. In fact it would be best to give all option of 4:3 regular, 4:3 letterbox or 19:6 to play TP on the Wii. Also you don't need to have component to play in 16:9 but in this case it will look somewhat shitty.

not really - you can definately do widescreen at a resolution loss on the s-video or composite cables by just cramming more information in a smaller space. it's what f-zero does!

Hmmm... well who knows. Maybe they'll manage without component cables. I figure you should use component cables for the Wii if you can anyway. I will.

The Famitsu website revealed today that in Japan, the GameCube version of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be sold exclusively trough the japanese Nintendo online store, and there is a chance retailers won't get the game at all.

Reservations for the game starts 11/06 and the products will be distributed from 12/02 (the Wii release date in Japan).
http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19064

Does that mean it is still possible to obtain the Game Cube version, or is this going to be a Japan exclusive?

They sure are trying everything in their power to make you purchase the Wii version instead. Aside from canceling the game anyway.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but it seems this game's getting a T rating, for Teen for Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence.

Even if it's nothing major, it still is kind of shocking to see a Zelda game with that rating.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Not any more shocking than Disney coming out with PG-13 rated movies.

Except Disney has never done a PG-13 Mickey or Goofy movie.

Granted, the last two Metroids got a T, but it was already a pretty violent series anyway (melting mole lizards). Zelda always had potential to veer into T territory, but Nintendo never took that route until now.

Hmm, I thought Majora's Mask got T...but whatever, the 3D Zeldas always seemed to be somewhere between E and T anyway.

Sweet, I'll have to check that out.

Did the majority of people in here pre-order their copy of Twilight Princess or are you just showing up at stores when they open on the release date and afterwards until they have it?

They could give a Zelda game an M-rating and it would still sell a billion copies. :3 I think 95% of the zelda fans are grown up anyway.

Seeing as the last few console Zeldas have, I'd say it's a given. No details as far as I know though.

Looks like it isn't just Japanese Gamecube owners that are getting screwed over. Seems that the US version might not be available on store shelves either. If that's true...man, talk about screwing over your userbase.

EBgames and Gamestop to see for yourself, funny thing is they still have the strategy guide up there for the Gamecube version. If anyone here has preordered Twilight Princess for the Gamecube at those stores, you might want to give them a call and see what they have to say.

Not sure why everyone's so up in arms about this.

If someone wants to play Twilight Princess but is determined not to get the Wii, they're probably the kind of person who buys things online often anyway.
