With Zelda TP NEARLY coming out and with my hype of the game nowhere as big as it was before, I've thought about something: After TP, what will we see in the next Zelda game?
I remember back in 2004/5 Miyamoto was quoted, "this will be the last time you'll play Zelda like this". Although now we have the Wii version, I can't help but think what would happen if they didn't have the Wii version, instead releasing a totally new Zelda fresh with a fully utilised Wii-interface. Surely there can be more to just "aiming" for arrows and "swining" for swords, right? FELIPE NO |
Well. They could break loose from the classic formula.
Get rid of the "traditionals". Kick Ganon out. Make a new arch-nemesis. Maybe even get a whole new hero. No more Link. Well... Maybe as an NPC or something. Of course hardliners might cry "but it won't be ZELDA!". Think of how RE4 went astray from the tried and true RE formula. I'm thinking of a "revolution" in this kind of way. In a complete kinda way. Not just mix in a bit of time-travel, or sandbox world, or shadow-world or werewolves. Really go into a new direction. Other big series have done this. Zelda could do it too... What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
I thought "like this" meant playing with oldschool controller style. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

When I heard that, I thought maybe first person perspective. Being Link is finally practical and immersive in the way that Miyamoto wants it to be, with the Wii controller.
Maybe. Who really knows what they have in mind. Maybe the quote has lost its relevance by now. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Just up on Gamespot today, official box art of the Wii version;
![]() But they showed an all gold one at the American conference dealy, limited edition maybe? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
That...is...AWESOME!

Ooooh, GameCube one's up now, it's MORE ALIVE looking.
![]() How ya doing, buddy? |
That's 'cause it's brighter, maybe they use different packaging?
Anyways, Peer from IGN has some choice things to say about the Wiimote control in the new Zelda... http://blogs.ign.com/Peer-IGN/2006/09/17/31160/ I wholeheartedly agree with him. That control scheme, to put it bluntly, SUCKS. Where the heck did they get the idea that just swinging in any direction was fun OR immersive? EH? Is Shiggy smoking something? FELIPE NO |
You know, I hear it's the pot he's growing in his garden. You know, the ones he calls "Pikmin"...
But yeh, Peer echoes my thoughts exactly. TP Wii doesn't seem like what Miyamoto stated a few years ago and when he announced that TP was "going to be the last Zelda game you'll experience in that way" (loosely quoted), Slapping on a Wii control scheme on a Cube game AND limiting sword swings into doing one action seems much like an after-thought. What would've happened if they released Zelda a year ago and worked on an all new Zelda adventure exclusive for Wii? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I agree with the control issue, which is why I'm planning on buying the game for GC. It really feels like a GC game with Wii-control smashed on top.

US box art?
![]() Does anyone know whether or not the Wii will have graphical improvements or added minigames and so on (like the fishing), over the GCN version? If not, I'm having a hard time seeing me getting the Wii version anyway... There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well if you get component cables for the Wii then you'll be able to play the game in 16:9 widscreen mode, crisper video, and probably some better textures (who knows). But I'd say it's worth it for that if you have a Wii.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Kind of on the same line of thought as Acer...
I'm assuming the game will run smoother, and have less lag and load times. I also figure the textures will be higher quality, and may be at a better resolution. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I'm definitely still getting the Wii version, I mean, swinging a controller around, even if it doesn't exactly match the onscreen movements, is still more fun than pressing a button. But damn, I was hoping they would map the controller to the sword. I guess it would take quite a bit of programming to do that, especially since the sword swings in pre-set directions. The hit detection would probably have to be completely recalculated and crap like that.
Argh, it's just that I wanted to show my friends what the Wii could do with a game like Zelda. I guess I could always show them the fishing part... (which looks amazingly cool, especially with the nunchuck reeling-in motions!) or the bow-and-arrow shooting or the grappling hook, etc.... I was speaking idiomatically. |
Thanks for the input guys, my mind is set =)
Also, I wouldn't want to miss that *arrow sound leaves controller into the TV*. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
:O The possibilities... clever nintendo... FELIPE NO

How did that feel, by the way? Was it jerky or smooth? More difficult to aim? Edit: However I'm surprised they're not doing anything with the boomerang! That would be so fun to hold up the controller and practice throwing it just right. Darn... There's nowhere I can't reach. |
That sound like a gross exageration on IGN's part, or a very early version. I can't believe nintendo would put an extremely shitty speaker in there. I'd assume itd be about the quality of a handheld's(GBA, DS) speaker. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've heard from someone who's played it (and playing it with only controller sound, no TV sound) that the speaker is somewhere along the lines of the DS. And he wasn't satisfied with that, either, but only because he has a surround sound system that he spent a ton of money on, and he wants everything to be of comparable quality to Dolby surround.
So take that as you will. Someone told me that the Gamecube version of the game is coming out later. Is this true? I'll probably be getting the Wii version, for what it has to offer, but if they come out at the same time I'll still consider the GC version. It would be nice to play the traditional way one last time before diving off into the unknown. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I almost wish TP wasn't for the Wii, for the same reason Hostile Creation stated above. It'd be nice to play one more Zelda in the traditional style before finally venturing off into the mysterious world of the Wii and it's potential.
I've been building TP up to be almost an extension of Ocaraina of Time which i consider to be a damn near perfect game. I'm not sure what to think about the controller functions, such as shooting arrows by drawing the controller back. Sure it'll be cool at first, but i can imagine it getting tiring after a while, especially if you're trying to rain arrows down on an enemy. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah. the GC version was also announced for an early December. Which you see Link wield the sword on his right hand, as in the GC version he's wielding it on his left hand.
Personally though, I'd rather get the Wii version instead. As you can do lots with the Wii version. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() ~Fav Radiant Dawn Character~

Apparently, they actually mirrored the entire game in order to have Link use his sword in his right hand instead of his usual left for the Wii version.
That sounds pretty hot, and is yet another reason for me to buy both versions of the game. I'm merely not sure if I want to deal with the hassle of the Wii at release and get the Wii version, or get the GCN version this December and get the Wii version when I get a Wii. Most amazing jew boots |
