There's a good idea, how about someone translates some popular character names in katakana, so we could submit it?

http://kirbycooksmario.ytmnd.com Gamefaqs is now batshit insane with lies, so I'll be taking my Smash discussion elsewhere. Like here. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Figured I'd post this hear just so you all are better informed.
http://media.revolution.ign.com/arti...93/vids_1.html Matt Cassamassina: "What about the classic controller and the light zapper? Are these gonna be something sold seperately?" Perrin Kaplan: "We have not made a final decision yet, I think that they will probably be sold seperately, in that, the nunchuka and the wiimote will be part of the pack-in." I suppose that this doesn't directly affect SSBB because of Gamecube controller capabilities, but it does somewhat say that you will HAVE to get a controller (gamecube or classic) to play SSBB. NOTE: That this is not final confirmation, just a educated guess. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Before I go here's couple quick ones I'm sure will be wanted:
Cloud: クラウド Sephiroth: セフィロス If anyone has a request I'll try to look it up. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Japanese Wiki is very helpful for looking the names up. FELIPE NO |
Aren't you supposed to type up a reason why you'd want x character in though? Hopefully not, as I'd like to submit a character or two in the japanese site. It still isn't known if they'll make an english version of the site.
I'm still thinking what song I would like to vote on. Maybe an orchestral version of the Super Mario 2 theme (last game only had the original version). What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
what does the first option say?
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
There's nowhere I can't reach. Mario Kart DS: 498293-921939____ Star Fox Command: 155-576-696-451____ Metroid Prime Hunters: 4854-1233-4943____ Final Fantasy III: 506891214495____ Xfire: freuser____ Steam: Free.User____ |

As much as we all want to see our favorite third party characters, I think the best idea would to be to keep it to one 3rd party per game.
I don't want to see the game become less Nintendo, but adding one guest would be great for sales, and would feel more "special" than to have a quarter of the Nintendo All Stars fighting game be third party. - WraithTwo - I was speaking idiomatically. |
![]() This just made my day. Solid Kirby is badass. What will Kirby's power be when he eats Snake? (Hey, Snake eater lol!). The cigarette will probably have to go though since Nintendo doesn't want to encourage smoking. If I could choose any character to be in Smash Bros. it would have to be Pyramid Head. ![]() Only in the M rated version though. Kirby's power would be rape. クラウドとセフィロスガ大好きです。 Add ^^ at your own discresion. Also SNAKE WTF, I'm buying this the day it comes out. I'm not over it, never ever ever ever. I'm just going to count on wishful thinking here, but don't they introduce new chars from new games in pairs? ;D Then again I'm just being an idiot fan, I havent felt this way in years. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Good christ. If all the plausible suggestions go through, the roster is going to be so huge that it may not even fit on a single screen...
Oh god, I forgot! Namco is in on it too! So that's Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, Konami and Namco... ...Man, I'm seriously considering not getting this game now because my head may explode from the sheer mirthfulness. This will be the ULTIMATE fanservice game. I'm cowering in fear, this game will be an omnipotent behemoth that will lay waste to mankind with nothing but the sheer awesome coursing through its body. It won't even have to move a finger to kick all our asses. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Er... don't get ahead of yourself, dude. The only character announced is Snake, but yeah those companies are likely candidates to have their characters in the game.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I read through the ENTIRE thread just to make sure I wouldn't be repeating anything people have said. I advise anybody who's thinking about posting, to do the same please, for everybody's sake.
I'm going to try to address a few things here...
"Right now Snake is the only third-party character that has been confirmed for Super Smash Bros., but I think because we've announced Snake is in Super Smash Bros. that might open up opportunities for other third-party characters to also be included. But more than anything it's not just about having a character, but about having a character that's going to be fun to have in there." Be realistic guys. Please. I really doubt Cloud and Sephiroth's appearance is ANYWHERE near likely. I mean, think about if they actually got into the game. Naturally, you'd wonder why they were there, because they have NEVER been in anything Nintendo. As a result, you'd think they put them in just because of fan-base attraction and popularity. Basically, Nintendo will have sold out. I, for one, would never want to see Nintendo stoop to such levels.
"I don't get why people complain about killing. If you don't think people should kill, just don't do it...should be a no-brainer." You see, you can't stop people from being concerned about Nintendo's franchise loyalty as far as who they include in the game. Because they SHOULD be concerned. They're concerned because it destroys the PRINCIPLE of the inclusion of playable third party characters, not because they don't want to play them. In other news, GODMOTHERFUCKING DAMNIT, Nintendo Wii Wifi is going to be the SAME AS DS!!!!! Hello Friend codes! ARGHGHGHHG!!! After the DS' online configuration, I was going to build an online riot so as to avoid the same setup appear on the Nintendo Wii. I calmed down and thought better of it, but Nintendo had the AUDACITY to actually do it! Do they not realize how much this will kill hardcore gaming competition?! Complaints about the DS wifi infrastructure have been at a low so far because of a lack of serious competetive games (though there have been cry outs for change as far as Prime Hunters goes), but Smash Brothers and Halo are arguably THE MOST competetive games on the market (why do you think MLG enlists specifically for these games?) and to limit the competetive factor with Smash, you only get one other game, Halo. I don't generally agree with Bozon on too many things, but fate has it, he's an IGN editor and I'm going to quote him on two things I did happen to agree with him on: "-Own the Online. After saying they wouldn’t go online until it was free and easy to the consumer… they have to make it free and easy to the consumer. No more 1 V 1 Metroid battles. No more lag issues. If people have to chose between a free service that sucks and a $60 Live membership that is amazing (hey, it’s 2nd generation… Xbox is learning the dance) most of the gamers will ultimately prefer the better service despite the cost. Make it free, but make it WORTH being free." "-Community. No more friend codes. No more restrictions. We need true community. We can see Nintendo wants to make it a comfortable experience for new gamers, but they have to remember there are those that NEED strong community as much as others need a less intimidating atmosphere." Wii NEED COMMUNITY! Oh and Hazelguy, your avatar is fucking SWEET. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I just have two real requests.
1) No FF characters 2) No more than 5 non-nintendo characters Other than that they can go nuts! EDIT: What the hell is wrong with friend codes? So you can't add some random stranger named SuperSmashPwner0917, big deal. I highly doubt it will be EXACTLY the same as DS for online. Obviously they are going to iron out things like connection and matchmaking problems (which has mostly been fine for me in MKDS and ACWW). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

At this point I'm willing to believe that at least one Sega character is in the game indefinitely. I mean, if they're actually willing to take suggestions from fans...
Everyone knows that tons of people are going to suggest Sonic. It's a sure thing. I'm just seriously hoping for Little Mac... How ya doing, buddy? |
People don't seem to acknowledge what realistic suggestions are.
First off all it's likely they check the 3-5 most popular candidates and then ask their rightful owners if they are willing to let said characters in the game. At best, I'd say we'll get about two more third party characters and that'll be it. Anyone suggesting/expecting Cloud, Jak, or even The Prince will be pretty sorely disappointed come the game's release. I would personally love to see all of them in the game, the more the merrier, but the fact that none of them have appeared on a Nintendo machine makes them a lot less likely candidate than say, Sonic (who I personally think is a slightly dull candidate) or Viewtiful Joe (who I would like to see, but will probably not be in there because of Red Hot Rumble). I wonder if there will be voting for first party characters you want in as well? Advance Wars characters are definitely at the top of my list. Even as cameos or summon items if nothing else. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
LITTLE MAC LITTLE MAC LITTLE MAC!!!!!
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

Are you aware of the way Smash is played competetively at the professional level? Having friend codes would SEVERELY limit the ability to set up matches with even sub-par professionals. I mean seriously, imagine Ken and how many friend requests he's going to get. Like a billion. How many do you think he's going to actually pay attention to? Probably close to nil, unless he knows you PERSONALLY. That's not cool. And on a side note, just because I'm not a person's friend NOW doesn't mean I can't BECOME friends with them over the internet. The way the wifi is currently set up, I wouldn't be able to do that. FELIPE NO |
How have they been playing professionally all these years without any online? I'm sure people will manage.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
You know, I was sure somebody would say that. People can get water from well's. You can go to the restroom in the outhouse. So then, why do people have bathrooms?
Because there are better and more efficient ways of doing things. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
...Heavy Lobster should appear in the Halberd stage, preferably as a destructible hazard. I'm certain he will appear in it.
How ya doing, buddy?

I think the reason the DS has friend codes is because of the limitations of the system. As it stands you can't even tell if your friends are online to play against in that thing unless you call them up on the phone, designate a time, or contact them by some means on the Internet. You can't even trade friend codes in-game. So far the closest thing to that is rivals in Hunters and that still isn't cutting it. Maybe it's not that the system can't go and talk to the server and see who is online and maybe it's Nintendo making lazy software. It could be a combination of both. I imagine that it is both because it seems their wifi service keeps getting better as time goes along. The new Tony Hawk game for DS will allow you to do voice chat while you play instead of in between games like Hunters so things must be improving.
Best case scenario: Nintendo sets up one friend code with your system that you can give out to people or trade in-game and when you decide to connect to the Nintendo Wifi Connection it will show you who in your friends list is online and allow you to talk to them and setup a game and/or if you insert a disc it'll show who is online in your friend list that is playing that game and of course it will only show who is online for your list which makes it much easier for selecting who you want to play with. Worst case scenario: Individual friend codes for every game just like DS and you can't see who is online ever and you can't trade friend codes in-game. If Nintendo isn't an idiot they'll figure out which is the better choice. And who the hell is Ken? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
