I have some small concerns with the functionality of the remote. Did anyone else notice in the official videos that the cursor looked a bit jittery when they were navigating the avatar menu? It could've just been that the guy controlling it wasn't keeping his arm still enough, but I do worry that the remote's sensitivity could get damaged very easily. It goes without saying that Nintendo creates more durable hardware than Sony, but I still imagine that the remote would be the most likely part of the system to become faulty out of the box.

I'm with BM on this one, the price is pretty fair.

While they might recycle the some bits from the GameCube it is, as far as I'm concerned, because they already exceeded the time and cost of a new system.
Who knows just how much development that's gone into this technology?
It really doesn't matter if it costs them only a cent to produce the system now - they must harvest for the profitless lost hours of making a system also.
I don't know ofcause how much effort has gone into this, but I think it's worth taking into consideration, before stating that they are also vampires besides them being a company that must make profit to survive.

As for packing Wii Sports with the bundle? It maybe cheap, but I believe it might also a stunt to get more people's attention. Now that it will actually be out there, it will also be played.
This might gain more general interest than from the kid who only bought "Zelda".

But yeah, they should totally sell the Wiimote and nunchuck together for a 50, as many games will use this combination =/

I was speaking idiomatically.

How much is any of the original games made for XBL Arcade? I've heard great things about Geometry Wars. It costs only 5 dollars. You going to tell me that Wii Sports is worth more than that? Essentially look at what these small games are going for and how much trouble it would be to download them. Not much at all. I'm angry that they're selling 5 mini-games for 50 bucks.

Oh I'm sure I'll enjoy Wii Sports. You know what else I'll enjoy? Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz which will most likely have all of Wii Sports plus a bazillion more games in addition to a full fledged game. Which one of these is worth 50 bucks?

Fuck you, I've had money set aside for the Wii since 2005 when it was revealed. Despite that I still can care about the value I spend my money on. It's my fucking money and guess what? I'll voice my fucking opinion on what I think and you can do nothing about it. I care about value. If getting what I listed for 300 dollars was an option I'd totally root for that because it would be completely worth it. If you think Wii Sports which is 5 mini games is worth the same price as a complete game that in addition has 20 times as many mini games and most likely includes those games featured in Wii Sports then fine, you can go and be delusional in your world of worth but I'll be completely cynical in reality because I can.

Most of the people who are playing the Wii currently, aren't used to the controls. There's apparently a learning curve with the Wii remote, but that's no big surprise. As much as I am skeptical of the Wii remote, the only game which actually looks like it's going to be difficult to tackle at first would be Metroid Prime 3, though that's not out until '07 now.

I still don't get the bitching over the VC console prices. I mean, they are optional, its not like they're forcing people to buy the fucking things. They cost the same as XBL arcade games, which people are perfectly fine with.

People are saying because the games are old they're not worth the cost. Its not like Live Arcade games are new either. Uno and Poker aren't the cutting edge of modern technology are they? I'm sure later on they'll set some sort of system up that nets you points when you buy games and accesories.

Regarding the controller price and the two parts being sold seperately, remember that its not just the nunchuck that will be used with the Wiimote. There was the light gun attachment with plenty of potential for expansion later on down the track. Say you want to play the new duck hunt game or whatever, rather than buying an entire lightgun you can just buy the attachment for it and clip your Wiimote into it.

And yeah, I love that interface, this is going to be the greatest console to play drunk ever.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

What's wrong with using the Wii remote and the A button for Duck Hunt?

More accessories aren't exactly a good thing.

But the guys handling those videos were Nintendo professionals. I would've expected them to have a better grasp of the remote. I'm sure there's going to be some learning to be done from the start (which I'm actually looking forward to, as it instantly reminds me of the days when I had to adjust to using my first NES controller, and again with the N64 and it's then-new analog stick). I'm just worried that no matter how good you are, it may be a pain to get the remote to point at specific menu icons.

First of all, most XBL games are brand new, or at least offer online mutiplayer to justify the price. The reason we're bitching is because we want to use the Wiimulator (yes, I'm still calling it that. Screw "Virtual Console"), because playing pefectly ported games with a slight visual upgrade (even if it's minimal) on your TV is still better than playing an emulated game that may sometimes crash on your PC.

Like I said before, if each game offered something extra, like online mutiplayer or a bonus gallery of artwork, commercials, and such, then it'd be worth the price. Otherwise the free alternative, bugs aside, still wins out.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That's why they should have also had an additional offer/option of buying both the nunchuku and wiimote bundled together for a cheaper price. I said it before and I'll say it again. It costs more than an actual 1st party Wii game! Am I the only one that see's something wrong with this picture?

It would be very moronic if they didn't include sensitivity options. They've announced that there's going to be sensitivity options in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, so there's no reason why there shouldn't be the same customization available for the console itself.

You'll probably just see it shoved somewhere in the Wii's option menu.

Agreed. How will developers know what people have? Especially for mulitplayer games, if it requires the use of the nunchuk.

Aussie launch details.

$400 AUD. WiiSports included. December 7th. That's quite a bit of fucking with the exchange rate. But I suppose since Microsoft and Sony have both totally ignored it, so Nintendo's gotta join in too. Gotta be part of the COOL CLUB. No mention of Excite Truck even making it out before the year ends.. *bitter tears*

Aussie Wii Date Dec 7th $399.95

Australia, Melbourne, Sept. 15, 2006 – Nintendo will reshape the home entertainment and video game landscape with the launch of its heralded Wii™ home video game console. As part of a global launch period, Wii will arrive in Australia on December 7th. Wii will be sold as an affordable, mass-consumer product at an SRP of just $399.95. The price includes one wireless Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuk™ controller and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disc, which anyone can play using simple movements, experienced or not.
And you're complaining about paying $250, that's only about AU$330!

So $400-450 NZD on the day.

That's very impressive. AND IT'S REGION FREE. This means I won't need to sell my japanese GC games, and more importantly, I can sell my GC which just sits around doing nothing for days on end.

I was a little worried that the aus/nz release date wasn't going to be this year at all.

Yeah, it's certainly better than the GameCube, which was delayed till like SEVEN MONTHS after the American launch.

Wait, it was? I totally skipped that period.

Actually I remember some local expo having a room full of GC's, calling it "The Cube Room" and stuff. I think this was 2002 or something. Of course I didn't get a turn because everyone was hogging SSBM at the time, but they tried to promote the hell out of it for a few weeks. And then it vanished.

It will be near impossible to casually steady the cursor to the likeness of a mouse.
If you've got a laserpointer, try fixing it perfectly on a spot 6-10 feet from the wall.

Nintendo's just retarded.

Japan: 25000 Yen = 167 €
USA: 250 USD = 196 €
Europe: 250 € = 37300 Yen = 320 USD

That's not the topic here. I'm not going to buy the other two consoles anyway.

Nintendo made far too much hints at a fairly low price with its comments about the console "being affordable for anyone". So 250€ + 50€ for one game = 300€ (= 381 USD) is cheap? o_O
Damn Wii Sports. I'd rather have just the console than a low-budget game without WiFi-support.
I so hoped for 150€ (= 190 USD) but I would have been willing to spend 200€ (= 254 USD) - but 250€ is just too much. I'll either wait for the prices to drop or I'll consult eBay.
