Just watched Iron Man 3. It's a good movie, continuing the high production standards of the Marvel films if nothing else. I thought Thor 2 was better to be honest but if you're into comic book movies then there are worse than this one around ('Sup Daredevil, Phantom, both Hellboys, Ghost Rider 2, all the Batman films between the first Michael Keaton one and the first Christian Bale one, all the Spiderman films after the first Sam Raimi one and all the Superman films since Superman 2?)

Speaking of lovable RDJ, I saw him in Sherlock Holmes. Absolutely loved it. I also appreciate Jude Law and Rachel McAdams.
I also saw Avatar finally. What a movie that was. I enjoyed it but I still... don't like Sam Worthington... which is weird, I actually liked his performance in Salvation but in this one, not so much. Sigourney is great and Stephan Lang was more impressive than SW. I was speaking idiomatically. |
When you watched Avatar, did you manage to work out how the destroyed spaceship thing crashing into the giant tree wouldn't have done as much damage as the bomb they were going to drop on it? God damn that film has some massive plot holes in it.
Anyway, we also watched Byzantium over the weekend which is a vampire film in a similar vein to Let The Right One In, in that it's a film about people who happen to be vampires rather than being a vampire film. It was really good actually, definitely worth a watch. How ya doing, buddy? |
Thanks for the review on Byzantium! I'm a fan of nonstylish vampire flicks. The Hamiltons was great in this regard. Oh yeah, I finally saw Mum and Dad at your recommendation a while back (its up on instant). One word. Gross. FELIPE NO |
Yeah, Byzantium is very much a gritty, UK drama where the protagonists happen to be vampires. There's remarkably little eye-liner and absolutely no sparkles!
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Just watched The World's End. Unsurprisingly it's not as good as Sean of the Dead or Hot Fuzz but it is entertaining and has a few very funny moments. It has also got easily the best soundtrack of any film released since Human Traffic.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Word's End isn't as purely funny as the other two, but it is hands down the best constructed of the three. It shows a real maturity in how it is designed, made and patched together. Edgar Wright, man. Something special.
There's nowhere I can't reach. John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
This weekend was Wreck It Ralph which I enjoyed. I liked the references to other games at the beginning and the way they didn't explain any of them, you either got them or you didn't. What was a shame was that they stopped making obscure references to other games almost completely after the first twenty minutes at which point it became another Disney/Pixar film which is no bad thing but again, nothing spectacular. I enjoyed it more than the overly-kiddie Wall-E but given the nerd-gasms it produced from a few members here I was expecting more to be honest. Probably the best Pixar film since the first Toy Story I'd say, take that as you will.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Good thing it's not Pixar.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond. Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway. She knew what she had to do. She touched Jimmy Jr's butt and changed the world. |
Hahahahahaha, wasn't it? Totally thought it was.
It was still better than all the Pixar films since Toy Story. Most amazing jew boots |
Oh Shin.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Huh. I thought it was Pixar too. No wonder it looked different.

Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen are by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
I think Disney still owns Pixar, but they are a different animation studio. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
All of which, aside from being animated, share little in common with anything made by Pixar.

I saw Dogtooth.
What the fuck. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

And Chicken Little and Bolt, forgot those exist.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Can't imagine why not, considering how they came during the "Disney 00s ghetto" which is why we don't get hand-drawn moreso than the fact that Princess and the Frog underperformed at the box office compared to the CG flicks.

Just watched Filth, the Irvine Welsh adaptation. I got drunk off this film. Seriously swallowed whole and spat out. Not the most comfortable thing you will watch for sure. Goddamn that was great. James McAvoy was just incredible. Also love me a cheeky bit of surreal nutcase style Jim Broadbent.

Movies I've watched recently.
How to train your Dragon: I really enjoyed the movie. Great music, memorable characters, beautiful animation, wonderful scenery. Everything I wish Brave was pretty much. Kudos to Dreamworks. Her: Everyone has been raving about the film so I decided to go to the theater on my own and watch it on a Monday. Beautiful use of colors, wonderful aesthetics, and a fantastic soundtrack. Wasn't as into the plot and characters as I thought I would be, but it was definitely a great watch. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I was really impressed with How to Train Your Dragon when I saw it over Christmas. It was one of those films that's on and you watch it because you can't be arsed to find the remote but actually I'm glad I did.

Ok, TV time. I've been watching these shows recently.
True Detective - The best show on TV right now. Basically it's a cop drama where two 2 detectives narrate and recall the events leading to the capture of a serial killer in Louisiana. I think this is the best performance by Matthew McConaughey is crazy good on this show and it really changed my opinion of him. And since it's HBO, it's got boobies. Gravity Falls - Thanks Q! It's a Disney cartoon series about a brother and sister sent to their uncle's hack Mystery Shack in a small town called Gravity Falls. One of them finds a book which documents the weird things in this town, and they basically go into adventures solving and discovering the mysteries. It's really fun you guys! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Its still so fucking weird that Matt is from my hometown. Glad he's getting better work though. He was in terrible rom-com phase for a while there. But yeah, I'll watch this show whenever it hits instant.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Man, his performance here and in Dallas Buyers Club is totally different from ALL his previous movies. It's like he's a different actor.
