I think I'm late on the pre-order thing, the stores near me aren't taking any more pre-orders -_-. I'm still hoping to get it on Sunday though, and it'll be nice to play some of you guys in the near future!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Snake Codec videos in English. Video 1 was C. Falcon... Which we've seen already. Here are the others:

YouTube Video
DK, Link, and Samus

YouTube Video
Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Marth, and Game and Watch.

YouTube Video
Pokemon Trainer, Ike, Ice Climbers, and Dedede

YouTube Video
Luigi, Falco, Diddy, Sheik, Pit, Snake, and Meta Knight

YouTube Video
Wolf, Lucario, Ness, Sonic, Bowser, and Wario.

Comments in no particular order:
Heh, they even start mentioning how excited people were that Sonic was in Brawl.

They keep poking fun on how hard Kid Ikarus was.

Falco's is fucking priceless.

Still a couple of characters missing from the chat though... Mario, Zero Suit, Lucas, Jigglypuff, Peach, Olimar, R.O.B., Toon Link, Zelda and Yoshi. I realize some of them are already out, but I don't think he's uploaded them yet.

Today's update is pretty nice, listing all of the items that appear in-game and giving a brief description of them. It seems really thorough, so I wonder if it's a mistake that the red shell isn't mentioned anywhere in the list. Would something like that really have been left out?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Wow. They hired the actors back from MGS just to do that? Was it Konami or Nintendo's idea?

Beats me. I just don't get why Nintendo couldn't keep consistency on their own voice actors for certain characters... I guess it's safe to assume that it was Konami's idea.

It looks like more of a US version problem, the VAs in the Japanese version seems consistent. The VA for Meta Knight in JP was the same guy who did the Kirby Anime. His US 4kids dub for the anime is utter crap, the guy did a really bad Spanish accent for him. (For some reason 4 kids thinks hes like Zorro.) By comparison, after watching the anime dub on youtube, his US VA for Brawl is a great improvement, though I doubt the Vader voice fits the anime MK either...

Same VAs also did the Star Fox series in Japan, where as the US version of Star Fox had changes in their VAs throughout the games.

But the Seiyuu industry is a bigger thing in Japan than the US VA industry, unless its something big like MGS. And even Snake got replaced once, in that MGS mini game in Ape Escape 3. (Where as his JP VA did come back as Snake.) Its probably just the way the VA industry works differently in different cultures...

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Ventrilo...Isn't that supposed to be the #1 voice chat client for gamers? I thought it was huge with WoW and CS:S clans.

David Hayter eats this stuff up; he probably jumped at the chance himself. The codec conversations for MGS3 were very nearly wackier than anything they could come up with for Brawl.

That, and Konami already has the cast immediately on tap, since they're still in the middle of making MGS4. "Hey, as long as you're here, can you take a day off to record some lines about wanting to eat Yoshi?"

I'd be willing to do voice chat with people I know, but random strangers? Hell no. I have it on pretty good authority that it's bad enough on Xbox live, having to listen to some 12 year old whose voice hasn't even changed screaming profanities at you anytime you have even the slightest advantage. I don't really care to have that here.

I know its not saying much, but I'm somewhat confident in Gamingforce's general age among players to be a bit higher than what you're describing from Xbox live.

This is probably why Nintendo didn't bother putting in voice chat for the game.
Why roll out a Wii-specific headset when you'll most likely hear some "Dude I haven't showered in two days I've been playing Smash Bros hyuck hyuck" or "FUCK YOU FAGGOT YOU FUCKING CHEATER!!! AAAAAGHGHHGHGHGH! SHUT THE FUCK UP MOM I'M PLAYING A GAME FUCK FUaaAAGHHHGHHhhhCK!!!"

So, with the ability to re-sign Wii ISOs, the new big thing for Brawl is swapping character models and movesets around.

Hahaha, while that's true, it would be nice if they had the feature for people playing with those that they traded FCs with. I mean, they allowed the custom taunt messages for these people, so voice chat should be alright.

I'm failing to see how suddenly this "new concept" of voice chat is terrifying. You guys are acting like this is new water to be treading in and that somehow any pleasant experiences you've had with a video gaming voice-chat platform are going to be ruined by this "inevitable" tragedy.

You have to realize that people of ALL AGES are going to be playing this game, so if they have some idiots online that love to talk like in Halo 3/CoD4, you can just about be sure that there will be a small loss in sales like that from parts of the market.

I'm not terrified by it either, I just wouldn't really look forward to it much.

But really, the last thing Nintendo needs are sue-happy American parents holding the company responsible for their minor kids unwittingly joining an online brawl that turns out to be more like a cyber session.

I know that sounds a bit far-fetched or extreme for an example, but I wager Nintendo could be easily blamed for lesser voice chat-related issues and they'd simply rather not take that risk.

Not to mention, that getting it to work properly would probably make us wait even longer for the game to be released.

Yes, I understand that. I should be more specific.

I'm not afraid of voice chat on games like these because I have a somewhat high level of tolerance with this kind of stuff. In fact, I would like it to be a part of the game because it would make communicating with others for setting up matches a lot more convenient.

Nintendo doesn't want voice chat, and I understand why they do that. They don't want people to be offended or influenced in a bad way by playing the game with people they don't know. The one thing that I do hope they did was to have voice chat, and keep it strictly to friend-code matches. I mean, they do have the system in place as a way to restrict communication to those that already know each other. By adding voice chat in these matches, it makes it much more convenient for people that, theoretically, already know each other to play the game. The only way it could detract from the experience is if your friend or whoever you traded FC with is absolutely unbearable when armed with a mic.

Regardless, I just want to play the game...

EDIT: I just want to verify something. Doesn't some DS games already have voice chat support?

How ya doing, buddy?

I was honestly expecting IGN to give it a higher score. Docking it points because of SSE seems retarded when you consider that SSE isn't even Brawl's main hook. Oh well.

Yea, being able to voice chat across friends would have been nice, but at this point, what has been done, is done.

And sprout, it's IGN. They dock points for random stuff.

Well, in their podcast (yes, I listen to them, I'm a geek like that), they said that they rank Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy above this game, so I guess they set those scores as benchmarks for scoring this game. Regardless though, still a pretty damn good score.

IGN averages on nothing. :|

They could give a game 5's across the board and give the game a 7. <_<
