One of my main problems with the game is the lack of diversity in normal enemies. I sigh when I run into a new area and find myself fighting palette swapped Snake enemy #10000a, or roly-poly Cockatrice clone 1000000000000.
For a game in development for so long, you would think they would have more enemy models. :aargh: FELIPE NO |
It may sound strange, but I actually don't hate it much in FFXII, and I don't know why. It could be because I actually like their designs (those coeurls and their kin look like frickin' aliens though), and the fact the game has the best darn beastiary in a RPG to date. Everytime I get a new entry, I actually get out of my way to read what they say about all the monsters and places. Oh yeah, and some of the monsters aren't just palette swaps either, having different features/appendages and patterns. Take a look at some of the T-Rexes. In contrast, EVERY enemy clone in FFX were the same, just with different colours. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Yeah, I personally found a lot of appeal in the various versions of different enemies. Especially given all the amusing descriptions in the bestiary. Such as gradually unlocking the secrets of marlboro breath, and then their ancient origins and how they were created and reproduce. They really went over the top, and I love it
![]() I'm actually working on compiling a Bestiary/Lore FAQ that'll have all the descriptions (and maybe some other tidbits for the monsters) as well as the unlocked lore in organized catagories rather than simply on a second page of the creature description. Once I get to the endgame of my 2nd playthrough, I'll be going everywhere and fighting off the required numbers and such so I can record it all. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Oh! Oh! I'd love to help you out with your Beastiary FAQ!! I can even get started at any time too! Since there's a lot of text, you're gonna need help! What say you?

Sure, I'll PM you about it so we don't spam up the topic here

Just started playing the game a few days ago. I'm just about to enter Raithwall's tomb with most of my characters at level 24+ (25 hours into the game).
Never did a Final Fantasy game before make me explore all the areas and dungeons so thoroughly. And it's tons of fun, because gameplay is stellar. Levelling never seems to get boring. I somehow fear that the story is going to suffer a bit, though. So far, nothing really interesting or groundbreaking happened, but then again, I'm only at the very beginning of the game - or am I? Anyhow, what I wanted to know was if there are things I should be doing before entering certain places. Are there important things you can miss on your way that will be lost forever? Also, can someone explain these quickenings to me, because I have no fucking clue how they work and I'm too lazy to read guides about this. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
A question for anyone that knows... does anyone know where fightable Garif are other than the rare "Garif Adventurer" in The Greensnake at Ozmone Plain? I'm trying to unlock the 5-part lore for their Bestiary entry, and it's a bit of a pain wandering back and forth and hoping that he pops up amongst the birdmen.

Hmm, I thought the Diamond Armlet was what let you get rarer items from chests? I got them from Mom Bombs in Giruvegan, but my ass is currently confused out of my mind. I have no idea how to get out of here and what awaits me in the end.
If anyone's on and can guide me through this, I'd greatly appreciate it. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
Ya, it's the Diamond Armlet, I looked it up at GameFAQs and it said I could buy it in the Dalmasca Estersands (but it's only available after you finish the Pharos at Ridorana).
Ok, so I found two more Diamond Armlets from the bombs in the Great Crystal, and equipped all three to my main party before I zoned into a treasure room (hoping it would triple my chance of getting a rare item). All of the treasure rooms have given me way more gil, but no weapons or armor, but I've marked them off on the GameFAQs map of the area as completed/done/got the big treasure/whatever, but there is the last treasure room (which I'm hoping has the Stone Sword in it)...its blocked by the 2nd Taurus Gate...and I can't seem to get to it. Let me try and explain this dilemma... I unlock the Virgo I and Libra II gates on my way to teleporter XVII, which leads to teleporter XVIII, beyond which lies a room with a save crystal that splits into three paths (straight ahead of the crystal room is the Esper Ultima's battle arena, to the right is teleporter XIX, and to the left is the Aquarius gate switch). I hit the Aquarius switch, run my ass back through teleporter XVIII and on past the Virgo I and Libra II gates. Past the Libra II gate is another forked area, I take the right path (its left on the map) which leads to the Aquarius I gate, which I unlock and run through that room to the Taurus gate switch. I run back through the Libra II gate and right from there to the Libra gate switch room, and right from there to teleporter XVI's room, and left from there to the Virgo gate switch room. Now, what's been happening is the Aquarius gate in the Virgo switch room has been locked, but I need to get past it to reach the Taurus II gate where the last treasure room is. I've tried going back and unlocking it, but then when I go back to flip the Taurus gate switch...some gate that I need to get past gets locked...and I'm very frustrated. Some one please help! lol. I tried to be as detailed as possible, you should look at the map (there's a link below this paragraph) while reading if that helps you, thanks in advance. As an aside
Just in case anyone's wondering where the hell I am and why I haven't really kept on top of this thread for the past few days, I've got final exams and crap to take care of, plus I just need a break from this game, quite surprisingly. I'm pretty burnt out, so I'll be checking up on this thread more regularly come middle December and later on. Back to discussing FFXII~. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() - What we all do best - |
HOLY SHIT I finally got the hell out of Giruvegan and the labyrinthine dungeon within. No one told me that's called "Crystal Grande" so I was stuck wandering around until I hit up a guide that basically told me the where I was, there was no way to backtrack and the only way out was forward to an area with a save point and an exit warp. With that known, and instructions to do so, it still took me far too long. Jesus, and to think there's a ton of treasure I missed down there too. Much to my surprise, as I was on my way to the exit I walked into one room and had to fight Ultima. Not exactly what I wanted to do then, seeing as if I died I'd lose all the money/levels/diamond armlets/gungir that I had gained. When it was all said and done (after 4 or 5 Holyjas and Redemptions), I got a new Esper, saved and got out of there. ....Oh, and I snagged some Moon Rings from the Ash Wyrms, so Sagittarius Bow here I come. What does the Remedy Lore license actually do?
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I guess it increases the effect of the Remedy item. Like, with every license upgrade, a single Remedy can cure more status effects.

Can I buy it anywhere istate of just finding it in chests?

Edit: Woops, late reply.
Um, hi there! I never really used remedies much, unless someone was Stopped. With Doom, I just waited till the person died (unless everyone was doomed at once) and then my auto-phoenixdown gambit kicks in for a minor setback. What's the Nihaopaloa trick? There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, when I was stuck in Giruvegan, the monsters there loved to inflict status effects, much to my dismay. Remedies are a quick solution to that. Basically, from what I understood, the Nihaopaloa trick uses the item's effect to reverse beneficial properties of items on enemies. For example, if I have one on and throw an X-Potion on myself, I'll do 2400 points of damage. Now, if throw the potion at an enemy, the effect still applies. It's kind of like Reverse, but for everything on the field. So if you have all the Remedy Lores, and you use this trick, you'll inflict all the status effects at once (or at least the ones the enemy is susceptible to). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
Oh man! Now that's brutal
![]() Hehe, sorry, my "late reply" comment was because I replied to the question about what Remedy Lore does, but then realized someone had already answered it. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Hehe yeah thanks alot for that trick! I always asked my what Nihaopaloa was good for since it's not quite cheap (like 30'000gil I think). I'm wondering how well it will do with bosses and hunts.

4.12 million points... Fafnir, Carrot, Deathgaze, Ultima, Trickster in the den. But I read something in Kouli's guide that sent me for a RIDE. Apparently the final hunt Montblanc gives you is one of 3 optional bosses you can take on. - Yiazmat - Didn't really catch the name, but it was Majinryuu or something sounds like Shinryuu - Omega XII ...and here I was thinking FFXII wouldn't have it's own version of Omega, and he's not too far from where you fight Ultima, but you have to be the other two in order to fight him. Definitely going to level up to fight this guy. Edit: I think I found several more Vagrant Story references, after reading said game's Wikipedia entry. - Snowfly: Snowfly Forest - Kilitias: Temple of Kiltia - Leamonde Entite: Lea Monde (it is an L and not an I right?) - Naturalist Merlose: Callo Merlose Most amazing jew boots ![]() The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even.
