It'd require amending the Constitution, which is never an easy task to do.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
True, but wouldn't it be better than arguing over perceived language laws? I mean, since people want things legislated as if it were an official language it'd be a lot more clear, and less hypocritical to just make it so. Why pretend like it isn't the nation's language if you are just going to turn around and act as though it is?

I kind of like the fact that people just keep focusing on just the hispanic aspect of the issue but what about the rest of the other races that are also illegal immigrants. There are alot of Asian illegals as well that this will affect as well by the passing of this legislative. Some of the community leaders for the Asian community are telling the asian community to "join their hispanic brothers" in this march.
Personally, I'm not going to boycott.. I'm an immigrant but if I don't work, I dont have somewhere to live. Sad to say that I can't afford to help my fellow immigrants. My last 2 cents... We shouldn't punish the hardworking immigrants. We should punish the people that hire and take advantage of those hardworking people... working 8 hours straight for $20 a day... that's cruel.. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I told you 3 pages ago to read up on American history. I am serious, man. You could be a much less confused person if you did so. --- I think I am boycotting. My family is not. I hope the legislature gets voted on soon... Frist said he should get it together by May 30th. Most amazing jew boots |
Just because of all the raids that have been going on.. some companies have experience 50% less attendance/productivity because alot of immigrant both legal and illegals are afraid to go to work, church, school, etc.
These people make up the backbone of the country. We cannot survive without them... But i do like the "learn the language" thing. There are even some schools that will teach you english for free. I can understand if you just got to the country but if you have been living here for years.. come on.. that's just plain out laziness to not take the time to learn it. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
A quick glance about national language makes it clear that there isn't one at the federal level (presumably due entirely to the consitution which hasn't been altered). However several states have adopted their own official language. These ones: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming Have chosen english as their only official state language. So what exactly should I read about American history which will explain this in such a way that all will become clear to me? FELIPE NO

In my opinion, illegal immigrant should be deported. It is not about how good they are, how hard working they are, how they need to buy fake SS card to work, how they will starve to death if they don't come here, how they don't speak english, how they carry their national flag instead of US flag, or how the economy will crash without them. It is about they enter into US soil illegally, thus they should be deported back to where to come from.
If an illegal immigrant truely need to come here to work and decided to come here illegally, they should suffer the full circumstance when the get caught. You have to understand, America is not a nation that allow people who violate the law run freely, how can a nation maintain its credibility when that happens? Also, doesn't it seems unfair to those who get here legally if the illegal share the same right as they? This is not about morality, this is about abiding to the law, right or wrong, simple as that. You are right, if the law is indeed wrong, and the congress decided to change them, then it will be an whole other issue.
Yet, it is not so as for now, right? Also, where do you see the law right now is unfit, please explain more fully? Shouldn't those who come illegally get deported, what morally wrong is this? Right back at you, sir. How ya doing, buddy?

There's no use deporting them anyways. If they're willing to risk everything to come across the border once, they'll do it again and again. Besides, we don't really have a effective way to monitor the traffic that goes between the borders. If we did, there wouldn't be that much illegal drugs in this country.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
But as has been pointed out before, what do you hope to achieve by deporting them? They'll be right back, and it'll cost tons of money. It's the right thing to do, but only *after* a solution has been found with regards to border security and/or immigration reform. Just deporting 10M people might make you feel better, but it's not going to do much else that is positive. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

This is why almost everyone who is in favor of deporting the people who are breaking our laws is also in favor of constructing a wall and troops on the border that makes it hard for people to come back across the border en masse (exactly what Mexico does on its southern border).
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I can't recall from the old 'build a wall' thread. Do you feel that building a hightech wall and having oodles of guards is a workable and economically sound response?

Actually, yes.
Of course, you don't need 100,000 troops on the border - 10-15,000 is a more realistic figure. FELIPE NO |

The most effective way to stop illegal immigrant from coming in is to set up a puppet government controlled by US in Mexico, end of story. ^^ (Btw, this is the best way in the long run, and is totally do-able)

Damn, most of these were even confirmed as true by snopes.com, except a couple which were only a tiny bit off.
I think it only makes sense that we treat illegal immigrants as criminals.

I also like how it sneaks in a statistic about population growth being 70% the result of immigration. Waitaminute, that one wasn't illegal immigration. Oh well, now we can get some good 'ol imgant blame on. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I'm sure with the growth of the number of illegals in the last 10 years this number is far higher now. However it doesn't matter of it was a million, billion, or even a trillion. They are using services that they have no right to, which the American public is having to pay for... people that I might add who actually have a right to these services. I don't know about you but I don't like to pay for the free ride of another.

The current population of the USA is about three hundred million. So, by the math, you could say that illegal immigrants are costing Americans about $230 per year per taxpayer. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Oh so about 2-3% of your total tax payments for the year? GUNNA BE IN THE POOR HOUSE
How do these guys even end up on welfare anyway? If you're an illegal alien without documentation how do you even become eligable for money? Normally those kinds of things require you know, ID. Sounds like theres an easier solution here. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Wait, wait.
I would sincerely like to see where you got this data from, along with data for American Citizens in welfare. Because, not for nothing, it only seems reasonable that American Citizens cost American Tax Payers a HELL OF A LOT MORE money than illegals do. Afterall, there are a lot more Americans than illegals. Also, it's not like illegals don't pay taxes! Like I said before, unless immigrants are paid under the table, they need a social security by federal law. It's up to the employer to check the legality of the person; most of them don't care. So the illegals use FAKE social security numbers, which, by definition, do not allow them to fill out income tax forms. Like you guys said, most illegals are close to the poverty line, and would most likely be entitled for a lot of tax returns... Yet they can't get any of them. So, looking at it from this perspective, illegals overpay their taxes. 12 million illegals overpaying their taxes probably makes up for the $200 millions you talked about. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
And yet whether they underpay or overpay their taxes is irrelevant to the issue at hand - they are still here illegally and should be deported.
