Guess someone ought to vote, huh? I guess you're all busy with NaNoWriMo novels but I'm ahead in my word count. Dragon Valor (Game Rip) - Border Fortress This has got that busy and untimately kind of vanilla feel that I'll, for lack of a better term, call "the Mega Man X sound." Perfectly middle-of-the road, with no characteristics. FM Sound Module Maniax - 4operators Interesting quasi-badass, quasi-prog sound. Really long; if it got to the good stuff sooner and dispatched with some of the lame bits it could be a contender. INSTANT BRAIN Perfect Sound Track - Detective I guess this does have kind of a gritty urban "detective" sound, doesn't it? It's missing the all-essential sax but is quite good at nailing a kind of future-noir otherwise. Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun Music Collection - Vs Riddle, Team Theme Nekketsu KKK, huh? That acronym didn't transliterate well. It's a decent lil chipper though, around the level of the weaker NES stuff like Mega Man 4. Nintendo DS Pokémon Black · White Super Music Collection - High Link Ugh more Pokemon. It's not my fault that I left 6th grade a year before the damn things were introduced and have therefore never played a game and was never Stockholm Syndromed into liking its music. Scurge: Hive (Game Rip) - Forest Field Research Laboratory Dammit, why do people keep trying to make me hate on Virt by nominating his worst stuff? Sega Rally 2 Re-Arrange Album another entries - Soul On Desert Ooh, saxy. It's got gratuitous 80's cheese to spare, dripping with the stuff like football nachos at a Wisconsin game. Waker - The Earth's Restoration Disasterpeace is a whiz at 8-bit and synths, but he's pretty damn good at other sounds too. Case in point. The piano melody is especially world-shattering. The Point Spread Waker - 3 pts. INSTANT BRAIN JUST ADD WATER (The brains for zombies on the go!) - 2 pts. Sega saxophone whatever - 1 pt. Vietnom In a quagmire. Stay tuned! Not overly thrilled with this week. But it will do.
(3 points) Waker - The Earth's Restoration: Piano? Check. That pretty much carries the week for me. But the tune is lovely enough in total to merit the top spot. (1 point) INSTANT BRAIN Perfect Sound Track - Detective: It fits in decently enough with a "Dectective" theme, though I spaced out for a minute and thought I was listening to some overworld music from Grandia. (1 point) Dragon Valor (Game Rip) - Border Fortress: Agreed, it's meat and potatoes SNES-era rock, but sometimes you just want to stuff your face with a fistful of tots. Does its job well enough. (1 point) Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun Music Collection - Vs Riddle, Team Theme: So are we just myopically limited in our chiptune knowledge that we compare everything to Mega Man, or did everyone really copy Capcom? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

This week was pretty good, I thought. :P Had some trouble allocating points and all, but here goes:
(2 points) Dragon Valor - Border Fortress What really sold me on the track was the synth strings and the great second half. It's gritty with purpose. (2 points) Nintendo DS Pokémon Black · White Super Music Collection - High Link Actually, this doesn't sound like the usual PokeTunes I've been hearing here. The track has SNES RPG leanings, which means it's quite epic and winning me over. (1 point) FM Sound Module Maniax - 4operators I agree, it's a tad long, but mainly because some sections don't do enough for me. Still, there are others that are brimming with brilliance. (1 point) Waker - The Earth's Restoration Pleasant piano offerings with a hint of oriental stylings win it for me. Did wish it could develop a bit more. 2 points: Forest Field Research Laboratory 1 points: Detective Just Missed: Soul on Desert, Border Fortress Oh man that general MIDI soundfont in Border Fortress. I played so many freeware shootemups with midi soundtracks back in the day I used to live off this stuff. My first SOTW gold was one of them! Border Fortress is alright. Yesssssss 4operators. My 2nd favorite track from the album, even surpassing TripleVOPM and Tulip. Not being too familiar with Koshiro at the time outside of SoR, this track was a real eye opener in getting me to realize, holy crap, this guy can actually do everything. Great week, mostly. Pokemon track did let me down a bit, especially considering the amount of good Pokemon music I came across in the previous BSCs. Nom coming up later today, hopefully! Most amazing jew boots  |
