...Gangnam Style on the radio?

Srsly, Gangnam Style on the radio? In Utah? I'm a bit amazed. I wouldn't have thought that it would be a wacky South Korean pseudo-rapper that would break through with an Asian language on American radio. It's catchy, it's kooky, I love the dance concept (in his own words, you dress classy and dance cheesy), but it has no substance. It won't win any awards. Oh well.

Any predictions on the next viral music sensation?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Still haven't seen this video.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's worth checking out if only to better understand a strange cultural phenomenon. At the very least, my daughter thinks it's hilarious and tries to do the dance if I pull it up.

Gangnam Style, Dissected: The Subversive Message Within South Korea's Music Video Sensation - Max Fisher - The Atlantic

If you're talking about this one, I just came across it and read it. Very thought-provoking. I had realized that he was poking fun at the Korean 1%, as it were, but I hadn't realized a lot of the symbolism and subversive subtext going on. It's social-political commentary wrapped up in a shiny satirical/farcical package, and it's actually kinda cool that of all the songs to make it in the States, this is the one.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

That's the exactlt article I was talking about. It was a really good read and it surprised me. Psy did a good job of portraying the social commentary on the rich society there.

That's number one in the charts over here now, although I am surprised it's popular in the States too. We often have terrible, foreign dance music in our charts but I always assumed your radio stations were back to back 50 Cent or some shit like that.

In Thailand, a gangam style dance competition betweem two rival gangs ended in a violent shoot-out.

I hope this catches on in America, too. =0

Funny, that reminds me of when I was touring England at the beginning of the summer, and we were trying to convince some schoolkids (probably 11 or 13) that classical music was cool. When we asked them what they listened to, the kids shouted "Lih-le Wayne!" and "dubstep!" It amuses me to no end that I haven't found a Brit who can say "lil" without the stop.

Was exposed to this song last week while watching local news. It was just bizarre so I had to read up on wtf it was about and enjoy it even more now because of the social commentary. The type of thing that can be enjoyed and understood just about anywhere in the world.

How ya doing, buddy?

Nope. Most pop stations are playing the kind of stuff that you would have only heard in gay clubs 10 years ago.

It also sounds like it's 10 years old, so. I mean, for an example:

YouTube Video

You could tell someone in their teens that this was a modern song and they wouldn't blink. (To me it sounds like EVERY THUNDERPUSS REMIX EVER so) oh god that music break where you just know the lights in the club go crazy

So many bands so much cheap synths.

It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond.
Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway.
She knew what she had to do.
She touched Jimmy Jr's butt and changed the world.
