Good Online RPG MMORPG music?
I really enjoy music from Asian online RPGs like Maple Story, Phantasy Star series and ECO. Which music from online RPGs or MMORPGs do you enjoy, and do you know which ones have a similar vibe to the games I mentioned?

Well World of Warcraft has very good music, but if you played the game you are probably sick of it. If not check it out.
Also I haven't heard it extensively, but Ragnarok Online has some great tracks. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I really enjoyed Guild Wars' music when I was playing it, but then I seem to like most of Jeremy Soule's compositions. The original main theme is still one of my all time favourites and I can't find it on mp3 anywhere, just music from Nightfall

Howard Shore's music for the Korean MMO game Soul Of The Ultimate Nation is pretty fun. Its little more than his LOTR music with different themes, and its performed by a hearty Russian orchestra and choir.
Amazon.com: Soul of the Ultimate Nation Original Soundtrack: Howard Shore: Music I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah, soundTeMP is the name to follow:
Ragnarok Online Granado Espada And ESTi from soundTeMP also contributed to La Tale, which had a free digital soundtrack release with over 2 hours of music (amazing stuff): Original Sound Version Blog Archive The Sweetness That is La Tale: Korean Synth Pop At Its Finest (Review) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I've also had a good experience with Temp; I'd add Flyff to that list.
Age of Conan: Hyperborean Adventures couldn't be more stylistically different, but it's very impressive--really big and bold with a live ensemble. I'm reviewing it for VGMRush as we speak. Anarchy Online, from the same company, is also pretty good, though very ambient. Fantasy Earth, which recently had a nice rip posted here, is also good in a pinch--especially if you're a fan of Basiscape. FELIPE NO |
I'd third soundTEMP for their work on Flyff

Check out the soundtrack for Space Cowboy. There are some real gems in there. I'll see if I can link you to a few tracks when I get home from work.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I think ESTI also worked on TalesWeaver, and SoundTeMP did the soundtrack for SEAL Online, as well.
Oh, Ragnarok Online 2 has a fantastic Yoko Kanno OST. Unfortunately it's the only good thing about the game. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Regarding RO2, there was a promotional soundtrack/DVD release last year that I was waiting to pick up closer to the game's release, and now the online Korean bookstore no longer carries it. =( Anyone pick that one up? They also did a live concert last year in Korea, would have loved to have seen that. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah, I bought a copy of that promotional soundtrack + DVD (I scanned the covers for VGMdb). There's a nice video about the recording sessions and the individual performing musicians and, of course, Yoko Kanno herself. God she's such a kid =D
You could also check out Kunihiko Ryo's AION soundtrack. It's fantastic.

The music for Shin Megani Tensei IMAGINE Online has some good tracks, but I haven't heard the entire collection yet, and given that the game is in Open Beta at the moment, I don't know where you would be able to find downloads or even a CD for the game.
For the games mentioned so far, I came across links for some of them, if they are available elsewhere in addition, then you can pick your download location I suppose. Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus OST Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures OST Ragnarok Online OST [1/2] Ragnarok Online OST [2/2] Ragnarok Online Arrange CD: Tempest Granado Espada Original Sound Track Volume 1 Disc 1+2.zip (VBR) Granado Espada Original Sound Track Volume 1 Disc 3+4.zip (VBR) FELIPE NO |
Final Fantasy XI Online has huge collection of music from the various expansions. There is even a few piano only composition CD that where put out. From the whole collection I would say this track, which you hear at the end of Chains of Promathia has to be the very best.

Indeed, the music that plays in that video is from IMAGINE Online, and can be heard in the following areas of the game, ordered from beginning of the video to end:
- Home 3 (The first big area you start out at, When you are walking around) - Cathedral (Where you Fuse demons together) - Standard Battle Music (When you are fighting monsters) There's nowhere I can't reach. |

Speaking of MMORPG music, does anybody have a good rip of Trickster or Grand Chase? They were recently explored at RPGFan. Sounds like the latter in particular has some nice music.

Lord of the Rings Online has some top-notch celtic music
How ya doing, buddy?
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.
|
Wark! |
Ragnorok Online has some amazing music, all in a very complex transpositional time signature. So far my favs are "TemPorche", "Morning Gloomy", and "Brassy Highway".
The harmonics in this soundtracks song's is very intense as well, making some of the songs very creepy. FELIPE NO |
