Your Computer Desk

Yes, most of us have a computer desk, while others may just have a table for the computer. Whatever the case is, what shape is your desk in? Is it stacked with papers full of school work or notes? Does it have a bunch of videogames stacked on it? Is it completely clean of everything EXCEPT the speakers and the monitor?

When at school, I make sure its as clean as possible. Mess creates distraction. Generally, before I can do an essay or homework on the computer, I need to clean everything around it. I hate messes in my computer area.

My computer deck used to be this GIANT THING in my room. Since I've moved, I got this little rinky-dink, mickey-mouse thing.

Everything around me is either a drinking cup, a lighter, yarn, needles, papers, or pens. Behind me are totes and yarn, waist-high. I literally built a wall of yarn. This is sad.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Mine's dinky; I am borrowing it from the "extra shit of furniture" that my housemates don't use because I was being too frugal to buy my own furniture. It has even less space now that the printer is occupying the space my coffee mug and tissue box and etc junk used to be.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I currently don't have one. Probably going to spring for some flatpack airy-and-cheap-but-stylish Ikea shit when I get around to finishing my room.

My computer desk is a long collapsible table we got from our church. It's about six feet long and perhaps 2 and 1/2 feet deep, and cluttered as hell. Between my gigantic CRT monitor, studio monitor speakers, computer, and headphone amplifier, there's very little space left for anything.

How ya doing, buddy?

My desk is wherever I happen to place my laptop... usually its on top of the heat-sink which sits on top of my college year book (to hold it off the covers and let air get in a bit). I dont have a real desk here at home.

At school, my desk would usually be business-mode only. Desk lamp, computer, printer, calendar with my schedule. Maybe a few pictures along the end of it. Usually it would have a pile of printed out drafts of a paper, or assignment sheets or whatnot, but I'd try to clean it weekly to prevent distractions.

I guess you could say that my desk isn't really a proper desk, since it's just some sort of plank of wood resting on two small shelves. I have books and DVDs stacked up on the top of the shelf to my left, which makes it a bit of a mess since I never stack things properly.

My table is something of a mess as well. Lots of wires (controllers, external soundcard, USB cables to connect my DAP and dSLR, etc) and a large amount of 35mm film boxes and canisters (some empty, some with film in them). Some pens, pieces of paper, used tissues, change, my radio (which also serves as my speaker system), etc.

I used to keep it clean and neat but I've been slacking off on that front recently.

That's my current one.

I try to keep mine clean without a lot of clutter on it, but it generally adds up pretty quickly and I have to clean it off again.

My computer never stays in one position for very long. The desk that is provided in my dorm room that I'm theoretically supposed to use for my computer is entirely covered in miscellaneous shit, like Febreeze, oil pastels, Aveeno, notebooks, newspapers, etc etc. I don't ever study at my desk, actually. I use it to just pile stuff on when I'm too lazy to actually put it away.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I have to clean my desk about once a week or else it starts building up with garbage, and random items like my car keys or ipod. The drawers are full of papers, and burned cds with no cases. I try my best to hide computer wires from view, because it's a tangled mess back there. I keep a traffic cone under my desk, and I don't really know why.

My desk is kind of a mess. Partially because to the right of the tower there is this wide open space that I don't really need to keep anything in. My desk is surrounded by a Saruman bust, figures of Poison, Green Lantern, Morrigan, Lilith, and Yuffie. There's usually also alot of pop cans around it since I don't feel like going downstairs every time I finish a pop and I usually forget whenever I do randomly have a reason to go downstairs.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

My desk at home is a small corner table, and I can only fit my monitor, speakers, xbox 360, keyboard, mouse and a drinking glass on it. I got some guitar picks lying around too.

I hate how the bottom section of the desk doesn't have a piece in the back that would otherwise cover that mess of cables, but it's a minor aesthetic issue.

As you can see, a complete tip. I will be doing something about it later today.

Spoiler:
for anyone who's interested, that's a vegetarian cookbook, the Tales of Beedle the Bard, October's issue of New Scientist, Tank Girl 1, Transmetropolitan (Gouge Away), cotton gloves, an application for a Tesco Club card, a pack of zyprexa (unused), an ink bottle, a shitload of letters, some stratergy guides, a notepad, a hanger, £1.20, a folder of my GCSE science work, and the books behind are a stack of videogames, a folder of games cheats, my A Level home course, a collection of "how to draw manga" books, my sketchpad, a few Shakespeare plays and a couple of classics for the A Level course, a photography book and another notebook.

My desk is in a semi-perpetual state of messiness; always a few loose papers, but never too bad. It's about 8 sq ft, so not a lot of space, especially given the 21" CRT and printer stand. I'd love to keep it cleaner, but time and/or space to put stuff always seems to be an issue.

I went with a 6 person dinner table for a computer desk because you can never have too much room to stack random crap. Generally it's littered with with all movie's books and games recently played and a smattering of plates and cups from meals. Plus a variety weaponry leaning against it and stacked on the computer case.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

After talking with Angel of Light on the show last night, and now seeing that he has to use a computer surrounded by Beanie Babies and cat pictures, I feel for the man. Clearly frostbite isn't the only way to lose your balls in Canada.

Getting married pretty much takes care of that by itself nutty. That's why I got a labtop for Christmas. Well my wife gets her way when it comes to how the rooms are decorated; I don't really care. When it comes to the renovations down in the basement for our future game room. The set-up is being handled by me.

I was speaking idiomatically.

My desk is currently my bed, due to the fact that I have a laptop and really can't be bothered to sit at a desk.

My actual desk is currently a bit of a mess, with just the stuff I use everyday (wallet, keys etc) on there, as well as my desktop PC, which hasn't been used in over a month and is really just gathering dust.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
