Question Minor suggestion for Signatures: Pop-up Text Box

Currently when you use a Smilie such as or you would see a small box that gives a description of the smilie. What I want to propose is that we extend that feature to a person's signature, or perhaps even the whole [img] tag.

So, if we were to limit the feature to a person's signature for now, one way to go about it is to use a... Oh I don't know... A [tip] tag. Placing [tip]text[/tip] inside an [img] tag would make the text appear when you hover the mouse over an image.

For example: My avatar/signature right now is Klavier Gavin, a character from the Ace Attorney series. In the signature area there is a picture of him, but nothing else.
I think the formatting would go something like this: [tip=This is Klavier Gavin][img]http://blahblahblah.jpg[/ img][/tip].

So then, after implementing, by hovering your mouse over the image, you would see text pop-up that says "This is Klavier Gavin".

Maybe its a bad idea, I don't know. What do you guys think?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

This one I am opposed to. I know that means jack shit, but the last thing we need is another way to junk up our post bit.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It's just a normal tooltip.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Tooltips on images? Sounds intriguing. Casting a vote in favor!

Could we make the tooltips for the smilies the vB code to have them show up? Then I wouldn't have to dig through the list when I'm trying to remember one.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Maybe if you steered clear of generic anime-style characters as avatar and sig material you wouldn't need to explain to everyone what they are? I mean, you pays your money you makes your choices.

From now on all staff are required to sport Rozen Maiden avatars and signatures.

With tooltips.

If it's possible, I think it'd be more convenient to just have it as an img tag option, for example [img=This is Klavier Gavin]http://blahblahblah.jpg[/ img]. Or perhaps the other way around - [img=http://blahblahblah.jpg]This is Klavier Gavin[/ img].

BTW, is there a difference between tooltips and alt text? And what if the image has both?

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

ALT text shows up if you have image loading turned off, or if image doesn't load for any reason. Tooltips show when you hover your mouse icon over said image, loaded or not.

How ya doing, buddy?

I think tooltips for images is a good idea but the way you broached the subject suggested that they were needed as a solution to a problem. I was merely offering an alternative solution.

Honestly, you try to help a guy out and they get all defensive on you...

syntax: [img=image url]alt text[/img]

It is worth noting that this is alt text, so embedding BBCode like [b] or [img] will not actually make the text bold or contain images. In fact, putting image tags straight in the alt text will not really work because of how the tag is parsed; it is left as an exercise to the reader to figure out how to do this.

CHz, quoting you produces the standard image syntax with [img]image url[img] instead of the [img=image url]comments[img] you mentioned.

Probably having the WYSIWYG editor set to default might have something to do with this again

I'm just going to disable the WYSIWYG editor. Write your tags manually and hit preview like a man.

I mean fixed, probably.
