Advance Wars: Days of Ruin soundtrack is ROCKIN'

Remember how awesome Jake's Theme was in Dual Strike? Now imagine a dozen or so tracks like that (or in my opinion, even better). The music is a blend of electric guitar, orchestral and world instruments, and even some techno. It hits the high notes and has great melody. The soundtrack is only limited by the sound compression needed to play on the DS.

Two of my favorite songs are Gage's Theme and Will's Theme, but there are several other great tracks.

How ya doing, buddy?

I scoffed when I saw Kotaku (at least, I think it was them) describe it as "generic video game techno-metal".

Some of the themes are awesome (Brenner, Will). Some are alright (Gage, Tasha). Some are kinda shit (Greyfield, Forsythe). Thankfully the good ones are many, and the not-so-good ones are few.

It was IGN. I don't know what the reviewer considers "good" music, but I personally just think he's a dipshit.

I think Forsythe's theme is great; reminds me of Final Fantasy XII. But yeah, Brenner's theme is also great (was the first track that caught my ear in the game), and to a lesser extent, Tasha.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Forsythe's theme reminds me more of recent Fire Emblem music than anything else. Outside of that though, the soundtrack is supremely ballin. Will's, Gage's and Brenner's themes are all fantastic, as is the Days of Ruin theme that plays during trial maps.

Not gonna lie, best song on the soundtrack is Isabella's Theme.

Totally with you guys, I love this soundtrack. Great tracks mixed with average tracks, but there really isn't one that I think is awful that I can think of right now. I love Brenner's theme to death.

By the way there's a PSF-related DS format called 2SF, and you can grab the soundtrack of this game (and many others) here, and the plugin here.

I don't know why, but it sort of excites me to have this format. Lossless or something? I dunno, it's a psychological thing I guess.

GODDAMN RIGHT.

Hope Never Dies, Proud Soldier and Days of Ruin are all up there too, with Madman's Reign and Puppetmaster rounding out the bottom. Greyfield's theme, to be fair, gets the job done of sounding evil and all that, but it's just not good listening. Caulder's theme just makes me think of a demonic carousel.

Mr. Bear... I honestly don't know if I like it or hate it. What's everyone's thoughts on that one?

I'd probably put Mr. Bear in fifth after Flight of the Coward, Proud Soldier, Cruel Rose and Supreme Logician. Followed by Hope Never Dies, Hero of Legend, Goddess of Revenge... But I really like all the CO themes except Greyfield's and Caulder's.

Outside of CO themes there's Days of Ruin and Power Up, but I haven't really listened closely to the rest of the soundtrack. Any among these that people like?

I happen to like Road to War a lot, along with All Hail the King (which should have been Greyfield's battle theme), The Owl's Flight and The Owl's Wings (both have neat instrumentation, even if might be annoying to some).

Power Up is, oddly, another I'm quite fond of.

Hate to be the only clueless guy on the thread, but where is everyone getting the soundtrack from?

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

I got it from a link at Serious Business, but that forum is down now. Try checking around the My Stuff forum.

My favorite non-CO-theme tracks are Road to War, The Way of Sadness, Brenner's Wolves Fight Again, Days of Ruin, Seeds of Strife, Apocalypse, Battle Ready, and a few others.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Ahaha. I already did a few searches and even peeked over at gamemp3s.net prior to the first post (no dice) =o Hmm

Well gamemp3s.net wouldn't have it. They only release published soundtracks, and this is only a game rip.

Anyway, I could upload the game rip later on if you wish. But I don't want to this to turn into a trading thread, so contact me via PM if you're interested.

Lots of great themes, first impression is that it's much better overall than that of Dual Strike (which had a few gems, but mostly just got on my nerves) in my opinion.

I didn't really play the GBA Advance Wars games, but didn't Dual Strike just rip some of the themes directly from those games?

For the most part. It totally ruined Nell's and Lash's themes though.

Yup, all of the characters from earlier in the series who also appeared in Dual Strike (so, all of them) had their music marginally altered. That is, it was basically just the same, but I thought they were downgraded, really. The DS version of Sonja's Theme just sounded yucky compared to the original. Lazy option, but I guess it was a no-brainer.

As for the Advance Wars series' music, I think it's progressively gotten better and more adventurous. The original compositions from the first two games were pretty standard, but I still loved tracks such as Sonja's Theme (there's such a sweet innocence to it) and Jess' Theme (the vehicular beat at the start is awesome, and the rest of the track is pretty rockin'; I'd love to hear a Days of Ruin remix of this). I always thought the Blue Moon theme was pretty poignant, but awfully undeveloped.

The majority of new additions in Dual Strike were really strong, I thought. Jake's Theme had the intense rockin' down pat, Rachel's Theme was really innovative and bubbly. Sasha's Theme is arguably my favourite DS tune; a majestic winner, which would be spectacular if arranged properly. Tag Power still makes me smile and go "wtf" and Flower Power is just a really strong piece of music.

Days of Ruin is some pretty sweet (techno-)rock. Favourites include Brenner's, Will's, Gage's and Isabella's themes. Very favourite is Brenner's. So many levels of win, they really nailed it. The ochestral licks in Will's Theme are pretty sweet as well...and Isabella's theme is a nice breathe of fresh air...strong soundtrack, what else can I say.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I didn't want to mention it 'cause the sheer amount of win would engulf and consume this thread. I guess it's too late now. >_>
