Korgoth of Barbaria

Anyone catch this last night? A most amazing show called Korgoth of Barbaria. In a dark future wasteland, the cities have fallen, primordial beasts have reclaimed the globe and thieves and savages populate sparse, dirty towns. Korgoth emerges from the frozen north, and his merciless savagery may be his only key to survival. Korgoth of Barbaria is an animated fantasy-action-adventure-comedy from Aaron Springer.

Some images of the show

This is my second favorite new show on Adult Swim next to Death Clock Metalocalypse, even though it's not out yet it'll be awesome.

I was pleasantly surprised by this show. It looked pretty stupid from the commercials, but it was actually quite hilarious. Looking forward to the next episode.

Korgoth is outrageously hilarious. Ultraviolence has never been this funny.

The question is, though, how much material can you draw out for how many episodes? There's only so much Swords and Sworcery crap you can make fun of.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Here's a link to the torrent file if anyone wants to get a copy of the first episode.

http://www.mininova.org/tor/330806

I haven't actually seen the pilot, but I'm downloading now. It looks pretty interesting (and at least higher budget than last season's shows like 12 ounce mouse and Squidbillies).

EDIT: Just saw it.

Meh. I love the fact that CN is actually spending money on their animation and music, but the show's too gross-out and not funny enough for my tastes. It seems like something 14-year olds would get a kick out of. It was a good change of pace, but not something I'd actually watch more than a few episodes of at the most.

Who you callin a fourteen year old!? :P

Thanks for the torrent. I like it for its sheer brutality and disregard for most censorship. I think only South Park comes close in pushing the violence envelope.

I definitely like this change in Adult Swim programming as there are too many shows I don't like on it like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Tom Goes to Mayor, Squidbillies, and many others. Plus I really dislike most of syndicated shows they have like Family Guy and most of the anime.

Either way this show I enjoy and I've been raving about it at school to everyone I know.

I was speaking idiomatically.

So is this from the same animation studio that does Venture Brothers? From the commercial it kinda looked like it had the same style.

I haven't seen it yet, but I liked the Conan parody angle. I think Brady might be right as far as how long a series can last on shock value, and I don't think the social commentary a la South Park is going to work with Korgoth.

There's not a whole lot of shock value for people that are familiar with those godawful 80's barbarian movies like Conan (which was awesome), Krull, etc., etc., etc. Things like that man-eating tree are par for the course for D&D players and anybody who's seen Beastmaster.

This show is a parody, and it's only going to work for people that understand the source material. I mean, for God's sake, consider this image from the show's intro sequence:

This is obviously a parody of Swords and Sworcery artists like Boris Vallejo. A lot of the jokes, though, even on their own I thought were priceless.

Hargon: A new sign!? What's the matter with the old one!?

Doorman: He said they mispelled something on it.

Sign Reads: "The Whore's Nipple Bar & Grille"

Hargon: Hmm, what'd they misspell?

Doorman: Well, the name of the bar is the Dragon's Kneecap.

Always get a kick out of that one.

There's definitely not going to be a social commentary with this one. Then again, there's not a social commentary with The Venture Brothers and look at how much of a hit that is.

I really don't know. It depends really on how talented Aaron Springer and his writers are. I mean, Sergio Aragonne's Groo lasted for quite a while, and it was based on similar Swords and Sworcery elements. Groo, though, was also kid friendly, cleavage and junk in the trunk aside.

I'm hoping we get ATLEAST one season out of Korgoth. That way we get the bost of both worlds, because if its drawn out and boring, it will be cancelled but if it isnt! =)

I wouldn't think unnecessary violence like that would be as funny as it was, but I just about near died when Korgoth shoved that candlestick in the wizards eyes.

And he DIED.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I watched the first episode and thought it was kinda funny, but nothing spectacular. Sure, I'll watch it if it's on, but I won't go out of my way to catch a new episode like I will with Venture Brothers.

THEN HE CAME BACK.....

Yes, I watched it. I laughed. I giggled. I went--oops. But, as Brady said, there's only so much you can do with this series. If they had made it as a movie instead of a series--it would work better.

And 12 oz mouse was supposed to be that crappy-looking. As far as Tom Goes to the Mayor...I just wish both of them would go to hell. I really HATE that show.

Why did Jeff Goldblum say yes?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I watched this the other night and thought it was great. However, I don't know how much potential this has as a series. I mean, if the writers don't make with the goods, this show will get very stale, very fast. I'm hoping these guys know what they're doing.

It was alright. Deffinetly had and eighties feel to it and brought to mind things like Conan, Heavy Metal, and Wizards. Well see how it turns out.

Haha, I loved it. But as others have said, it could easily grow stale. I'll definitely be looking forward to more episodes.

It's probably going to take a while. Remember that there was an extremely long period of time between premiere of The Venture Brothers series VS the release of its pilot (which is now only shown once in a blue moon).

Because AS operates on a smaller budget, they usually release a series of premieres to gauge reaction and if the reaction does well, then they create the series. My guess is that's whats going on with Korgoth right now. Also by that time, a lot of necessary changes to tighten the show up will also be done (citing VB again as another example).

The master of rage and ultra-violence is the Fist of the North Star, Kenshiro. I saw this a few months ago on Youtube. It was pretty funny, but a bit purile. So, good for a laugh but I definitely wouldn't lose sleep if I missed an episode.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Wow, I did think it was odd that the two times I managed to catch the show it was the pilot. I actually enjoyed it both times.

I think this has potential as one of the better original AS series. Certainly better than Tom Goes to the Mayor, Squidbillies, and Aquateen. I don't think it can top Venture Brothers though.

This is the first pilot on adult swim that I didn't enjoy. I'm a huge fan of literally ALL of their shows, save for this one.

I consider pilot for Lucy: Daughter of the Devil much funnier than this!
