Thermal Transfer Compound
I live in the area of Portland, OR and I need some Thermal Grease. It's not hard to find online, but why should I pay $10 in shipping when a tube of AS5 costs less than the shipping would?
So, I'm asking if anyone can help me find somewhere in my area where I can just go buy it in a store. Best Buy, CompUSA, and Circuit City don't have it stocked. If anybody can help me find another store somewhere around here, I'd appreciate it. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Are there any smaller computer shops around? A smaller (and reputable) shop usually specializes in ordering more a customized selection. I live in a city of 55,000 people and I can name at least 4 shops that would carry thermal goop.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Do they have any Radio Shacks up there? I know they carry the stuff.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I've explored that route some. My problem is that I want to be sure a place has it in stock before I go there. I don't expect to spend more than $10, so driving around town to 3 or 4 different places in order to find out if they've got it or not is a lot more trouble than it's worth. Know what I mean?
If it wasn't so inexpensive, shopping around wouldn't matter so much. I'd just rather not spend more money on gas than on the grease itself. ---EDIT--- Radioshack... good call. That's real close. Close enough that it won't matter if they haven't got it... In which case I will be re-posting afterwards. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
You could pick up the phone and call the store and ask them if they have what you are looking for.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Calling was a great idea. I called the two closest Radio Shack locations and neither of them had what I was looking for. However, the second one referred me to a small, independent shop. They had AS5.
Thanks for your help, guys. I might have found a place to shop for a new Power Supply when the time comes. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Also look at fry's eletronics. i know they have alot of good computer stuff.
(i live in depoe bay, i beleve the closest one is salem...) FELIPE NO |
I hate to say it, but you are probably better off buying brand name goop online then looking to a B&M local store. Locals tend to (unfortunately) have higher prices and less selection.
I know I've used Newegg.com for buying Arctic Silver compound and cleaners and they worked phenominally well. I've installed about 3-4 times and have alot left. BTW, between what you pay in gas and the (probable) higher price at the local store, it will be more expensive than ordering online. All the places I was considering except Fry's are less than a mile from my apartment... Including the one where I actually went.
I got it for $9.99 which isn't too bad. The cheapest I found online was $3.49 with a $9.99 S/H fee. The most expensive was around $15 not including shipping... I think I came out ahead. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
