Nouvelle Vague

For starters, this is an awesome band and I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who knows and loves them. You can find links to their album at the bottom of this post (other information)

The concept behind Nouvelle Vague's first album (2004) was simple; Take New-Wave and (post)punk songs, strip them naked and combined them with some sweet lounge or bossa nova. This combination gives the songs an 80s feel, and anyone who thinks lounge sucks, will really have to change their opinion after listinening to this album. There are numerous strong songs, like "Making plans for Nigel", or "In a manner of speaking", sung by Camille, without question the star from this album, or "Love will tear us apart", by Eloisa (who sadly enough didn't participate in the second album). The most beatiful voice on the album, Melanie Pain sadly doesn't get the songs that she deserves, and I'm sorry to say that her songs are the weakest ones on the album.

Now for the second album, NV gives us more of the same, but we also see influences from Jamaican music, with "Heart of Glass" (the only song sung by a man on the album), or different styles, like "Bela Lugosi's dead", evoking the sinister mood of an abandoned graveyard. I'm really glad that Melanie Pain gets the strongest songs on the album, namely "Dance with Me", and instant-classic, "The Killing Moon". Others songs like "Let me go" or "Fade to Grey" are also beatful. The only thing that disappoints me is that Camille Dalmais no longer has any songs, but for the rest, this really is an awesome album.

I've always liked Nouvelle Vague. A roommate had a copy of their first CD and was playing it when some friends and I were hanging out one night. I immediately loved it, especially their "Too Drunk Too Fuck" cover. I really like how chilled out they did all the renditions. I didn't even know that they had a new album, so thanks for the link.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Their first album is great. Bought it after I heard a song from it in a commercial and couldn't get it out of my head. Like Marty I think their "Too Drunk To Fuck" cover is great, but most of the songs on the album are. I might have to check out their second one to see what it's like.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
