NDS TV Converter?
As the article states, it seems like it is not a very worthwhile venture, but they're trying it anyway!
Article They grab one screen and place it on the TV, but the Touch Screen must remain unprojected for obvious reasons. It seems to make sense for games like Mariokart DS where you don't use the bottom screen much, but for anyone who's played Zelda 4 Swords on gamecube knows that switching from looking at the TV screen to your GBA screen (and now DS screen with more functionality) is disorienting at best. Just a bit of gaming ingenuity and technology for ya! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'm sorry, but this is totally fucking stupid. Any handheld system that wasn't as unique as the DS would work, but with two screens and a touchscreen, there's no way to get this to work properly on a TV.
By the way, this should probably be in the Nintendo forum. How ya doing, buddy? |
Moved to Mario's Warproom.
This would work GREAT with Castlevania. I could look up at the TV to view the map of where I'm at~ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The Gameboy Player actually works well on the Gamecube. I love it for getting me a big screen experience.
I can't say I'd feel the same about a DS player. Considering that you'd actually still need the DS in your hands to use it. Imagine playing Sonic Rush on the DS and TV. Sometimes I can't even switch through both screens with accuracy on the DS screens. I guess it makes more sense if you're trying to show off to a crowd of people in your house. But hey, make it and they shall buy. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I'm not so sure. By the looks of it it'll be expensive, and it's not like you'd be able to play it with all the games. I wonder why they're even bothering to go through with it. I love my GBA player on the GCN as wlel, BTW. Minish Cap was very nice on that system. I also like not having to get out my Super Gameboy to play all the old games on the bigger screen as well. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yes, the Super Gameboy was nice as well. It actually could enhance the experience.
Trying to imagine Playing WarioWare DS on this new player makes me want to laugh. I guess maybe they just needed something to do. I mean, after all, there were some kids who actually wanted the DS to be on the Big screen. (I wonder how they will feel after they get this thing and have a hard time playing their games) And it's suppose to be expenive? I guess that ruins the chance of getting sales from the 'buy it because it's cheap and there' crowd. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

The picture quality on this will be crap, since it's basically a video camera on your DS screen.
I like the Game Boy Player because it has nice picture quality for putting the GBA image onscreen, and I don't have to hunch over something to use it (Mostly applied to regular GBA though, sans backlight.) So, this idea is fucking stupid. FELIPE NO |
It's definitely VERY odd that they are using mirrors and projection, but they really don't have a choice without breaking it open and asking consumers to do major soldering, or just offering pre-made DSs. That wouldn't sell.
The screenshots provided look awful as well, but that's about what I'd expect from the design. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
If I ever found a resonably priced equivalent of this with decent picture quality, I'd pick it up just for Metroid Prime Hunters (well, Castlevania and Mario Kart would be nice too).
Nice idea, needs better implimentation. - WraithTwo - Jam it back in, in the dark. |
This might be useful if it did something like put both screens side-by-side on a widescreen TV, but projecting only one of them...not really much point. And picture quality looks pretty bad. But I guess you can't expect much for $30.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The only way around this would be to devise some sort of wacom tablet attachment or accesory, but that would drive the price up to probably more than a DS. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
