I can see the family's point of view, but I have to side with the restaurant on this one. Like many others have said, yes, it's all you can eat, but you do have to be courteous to other customers and the restaurant.
Now if they were getting charged per plate, they'd have a strong case, cause they have to pay for it everytime they order and waste it. But seriously, if you take 4 items from an all you can eat, but then only take a small bite out of one of them, and throw the rest away, then that's at least 3 other items that other customers could've gotten but can't now (yeah, the restaurant might have plenty of food, but still, you shouldn't repeatedly take food you don't intend on eating, as that family's done before apparently).
I think if they did it only occasionally, and only cause they accidentally grabbed one too many, it'd be okay. But if you do it each and everytime, and visit quite often, then of course the staff's going to eventually recognize that you waste food on purpose.
Yeah, sounds cliche and stupid, but some of these people should visit other parts of the world once, where there's not enough food to eat. I doubt anyone who goes there would ever waste food again.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
