I've played most of them (the first PS one, virtually all the Allied Assault and its expansions, then Pacific Assault and Rising Sun).
It was great at first, cause it was a semi-cool FPS game after the phenonmenon known as Goldeneye on N64 (think it came out about two years after). Allied Assault (the first PC version) was okay too, but I hated that damn sniper stage. I can see why they had trouble with them in the real WW2, but you had to practically do trial and error to remember where the snipers were, which kind of got boring once you knew where they were hiding. Once Call of Duty came out though, I couldn't really get back into MOH. Although the expansions for Allied Assault and Pacific Assault had some squadmates with you, a lot of times it still felt a lot like you were a one-man army, meaning you had to kill almost all of the enemies yourself. If I recall, it was pretty horrible in Pacific Assault, although I can't cite specifics right now (haven't played in over a year), although again, I remember having to kill like 95% of the enemies myself. Also, the earlier MOH games (Allied Assault and earlier) didn't have any melee capability (like in COD or Halo for example). It was kind of funny watching German soldiers stab you or hit you with the butt of their weapon, but you couldn't do the same to them, just shoot (I think there was a melee option, but you had to switch to it, you couldn't just whack them with your weapon). Haven't tried European assault yet, but if it's similiar to the earlier ones, I'm probably not missing much. Haven't really played the multiplayer aspects yet either (fearing that it'll be too much like counterstrike or quake, and the few times I did play it often seemed everyone was a sniper but me lol). I like Call of Duty more overall, simply because it's got a better storyline experience. Not only are you hardly ever alone (it's friggin world war 2, millions of people fought and died on both sides!), but you to play a British, Russian, and American soldier, which is great cause not all of them fought on the same battlefronts (for example, the Russian campaigns don't have any desert stages, but there's plenty of winter stages there), and the vehicular combat is quite fun at times (I loved manning the guns on that bomber in COD: United Offensive expansion. Think it's the first time I ever saw a WW2 game from the perspective of one of those bombers. Too bad it only lasts one level, and you still get shot down no matter what lol). I think what's killing MOH is the fact that there's a lot of them out now, and they don't seem to be very good (almost as if the devs are being forced to rush the game, so it just doesn't feel "complete"), as well as the fact that there's a ton of WW2 games out now (it'd make you think that WW2 was the only war that ever existed lol. I'll admit though, WW2 was large, and did have a lot of interesting stuff happen, which is why everyone wants to do a game from that time era). I'd love to see more FPS games based on the Vietnam/Korean wars, or maybe even something like World War 1 (can't say it'd be as "exciting" as WW2 though, cause trench warfare was pretty static and even after four years of fighting the lines didn't move much. However, it'd be a nice prequel stage to another WW2 game at least). Or heck, something similiar to Star Wars: Battlefront would be nice too (yeah I know, there's a lot of SW FPS games out there, but most of them suck or if there's any jedi stuff in it, it turns into lightsaber battles, meaning the guns are practically useless). If you do go buy it, make sure you get the one that comes with all the expansion packs.
