Wow, either the soldier was just really unlucky, being caught in a bad place at a bad time, or maybe he did something bad, and now karma's just now catching up.
It's reasonable to see how this might of happened. It was 6:30 in the morning, which meant it'd be dark, and it was raining heavily too, which means it can be hard for pedestrians to see cars, and for drivers to see pedestrians (but you could probably argue that the drivers were driving too fast to be safe for the conditions, and the article doesn't explain if the soldier was crossing at the end of a block, or if he crossed into the street from the middle of a block (I really hate when people don't walk at crosswalks, even if I'm not in a car).
In any case, I hope that the drivers (or at least the second one, who dragged him for half a mile) pay for his hospital bills.
