Even though I really hate it when they constantly churn out redesigned systems, the DS Lite has about enough features for me to warrant an additional purchase.

My question though is when do you think is the best time to sell my old DS, in order to net the maximum amount of cash for the Lite? It would be great if I didn't have to pay much, if any difference for the Lite by using the cash from the old DS. And where would be the best place to sell it? When the GBA SP came along, Gamestop had a pretty good deal when I traded in the original GBA. I only had to pay about $20 extra after the trade-in. I'm not sure I'll get a similar deal this time though.

That video review made my mouth water. I'm leary about the GBA cartridge sticking out like that, but the extra brightness more than makes up for that. The only question now is when I should sell my old DS. Has Gamestop mentioned any trade-in specials yet (trade the old DS, get over half off the DS Lite)?

That guy's got a lot of guts having his DS sit on an escalator like that. I would never do that, even if it was for online props. The part where he has the DS listen to an Ipod made me chuckle, though.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Honestly, if you can live without a DS for a month, go ahead and trade in your DS and put the credit on a reserve for the Lite.
It's funny you mention that. I haven't actually used the system in at least 2 months, and yet I have a feeling I'd miss it as soon as I sell it. I'm still planning to put it up on EBay or Amazon. Maybe I'll throw in the Metroid Hunters demo as a bonus to sweeten the sale.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

This might've been said already, but is there any difference at all between the japanese DS Lite and the one America is getting? You can set the japanese DS Lite to english right? I'm just wondering if I should wait for the NA release or just import it.

Also, someone in CAG mentioned an online store that offers $75 store credit for your old DS.

Quote:
www.estarland.com gives $75 trade in for a silver DS, and $80 for a blue currently. If you dont spend the credit before they recieve the system they will also refund your shipping charge to your account in credit.
Anyone ever shopped from them before? Are they reliable?

I see. And what's the cheapest price for japanese Lites right now? If it's the same as the NA price, I'll probably import it with the cash I get from selling the DS. The month wait is too long, especially with New Super Mario Bros due tommorow.

The problem I have with that color is that it's similar to the PSP. I can imagine myself reaching for the handheld and end up with the wrong one. Between the black PSP, the black Motorolla, the black wireless PS2 pad, the black PS2, and the black remote, a milk-white DS would stick out nicely.

Besides, who needs a DS Lite when you can buy the original at a quality price?

Elaborate please. Stores in NA are carrying it now?

I went to my Gamestop today to reserve it, but the minimum reserve is $25, and I was $5 short. I'll have to stop by there again tommorow.

On the plus side, they confirmed that they'll be receiving shipments Sunday, June 11th.

I checked 3 stores near where I live, but to no avail. None of the sites posted helped out either. So I decided to reserve it at Gamestop. It's only a week wait anyway. Also, the employee said that any store that sells the Lites early are going to get some bad blood from Nintendo.

Unless the original just had a price drop, then yes.

A friend of mine imported Jump Superstars for his DS Lite. He says the game is a blast and is very easy to figure out despite the kanji. I've been tempted to get it myself, but I keep wondering if there's still a chance it'll come out in NA. He says it's impossible due to all the liscenses, but what do you think? Are the chances pretty much zero, or is there still a possibility?

Well I got screwed as well. There's a green dead pixel on mine that shows up on dark screens. No problem for Mario, bad for Castlevania. My GS is closed for today, so I'll have to check tommorow. Hopefully they won't run out by the time I go check. I have no faith in my terrible luck, though.

My instincts told me to check immediately after I left the store, too.

I am seriously hoping that I won't have to go through with what I did with the PSP. I really hope Gamestop won't make me send the Lite to Nintendo, where I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks to get a replacement that may or may not have dead pixels. I better not have to deal with that shit.

Perhaps I could simply ask for a refund, then purchase the Lite from Best Buy with free Brain Age. I doubt Gamestop will refund the system now that it's opened though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Imagine having a fly on your TV. It doesn't matter whether it's a flea or a roach, it's still annoying. I'm trying to ignore the dead pixel on my DS, but it's no use. I'm pretty pissed that not only did this damn dot ruin a day I was looking forward to, but that I may have to deal with it for a while if Gamestop doesn't have any extra Lites to exchange it for.

And to think everyone keeps whining about the first PS3 shipment to mess up. Total faith that there won't be any malfunctioning Wii's, huh?

My point is that there's too much blind faith in Nintendo's products, when they're every bit as prone to break or have something unwanted (the dead pixels) as Sony's.

My first Gamecube died on me after about a week, so I had to exchange it. Technology won't save us.

Shouldn't the LCD screens be product tested, anyway? Or, I suppose it would be too daunting to inspect every single handheld under different colors to see if any dead pixels exist. I wouldn't know, but I still think there should be more focus on searching for dead pixels.

I have; 3 times in fact with my PSP. They too paid for shipping and repair. The only annoyance was that Sony forced Gamestop to refuse exhanging any handhelds with dead pixels, and thus I had to ship it to them directly (enduring a week's wait each time). I'm hoping Nintendo won't be as tight-assed, and that I'll simply be given another DS Lite as soon as I take it in. Assuming they have any extra Lites left, anyway.

Oh, and all things considered, Castlevania DoS looks quite spectacular under the brightest setting. It seems the battery drains much faster than what was previously reported, though; I'm already showing a red light.

Now this is interesting. According to some posters at CAG, when calling Nintendo for a replacement DS, they don't make you send in your old one first. What they do instead is send you the replacement DS Lite, along with a box for you to put in your old (pixel'd) DS. If you don't send back your old DS, they just charge your credit card.

This is a much better method than Sony's, which I was forced to send my PSP first. At least with Nintendo's way I can still enjoy playing the DS until the non-pixelated one comes in. I'm also told it takes less than a week for the replacement DS to ship.

This round goes to Nintendo.

Still, it'd be much quicker if the GS will exchange my Lite with a new one tommorow. If that happens, I'll be sure to try out the system inside my car before driving off (something I should've done the first time).

Perhaps it was my usual pessimism, but I was almost certain I was going to get short-changed today, but things went off without a hitch. The GS clerk confirmed the dead pixel and gave me a fresh new Lite. I went to my car and inspected it thoroughly before driving off, and everything checked out.

So now I can join in with everyone and confirm what an excellent handheld it is. The bright light can't get enough praise, especially with GBA games.

It is true that the GBA cartridge sticking out is the one downside to this upgrade. The cartridge doesn't even fit properly, but appears slanted. I tried adjusting it, but a little tap was enough to freeze my GBA game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My Lite is dead-pixel free (and I spent all day inspecting it), but I do have one question just to confirm; is the volume button a bit loose and springy for anyone else? If it's just me, it's no big deal. It's not even a fraction as annoying as a dead pixel.

Also, does the sound quality seem a bit better for anyone who originally owned a DS? Again, probably just me, but I kind of noticed it when I started up Mario Kart (vroom, vroom, yeah-hoo!).

Well, it isn't so much the quality of the sound, but the positioning. I dunno, things just sound a little more surround-ish to me, but I also haven't been using my old DS in months.

If you haven't seen any dead pixels by now, then you're safe. They stick out like sore thumbs, whether you're looking or not.

I asked this in my journal, but I guess I would get the best answer here.

Should I take the plunge with the first Phoenix Wright, or just jump ahead to the sequel (which is coming in like 2 months right?)?

And SOLDIER, you should definitely play the first one before the sequel. I don't know how many references the second one is gonna have to the first one, but you should play it first so you can catch them all.
But isn't the first NA game not actually the first game in the series?
