Cheapest DSL Service?

Cheapest DSL Service?

Our house uses my mom's hospital connection (called Snappy, part of Bellsouth), which is free. Unfortunately, the service will occasionally disconnect, usually for a day or two. It happens to be out right now (I'm leecing off a neighbor's connection), and it's been over 25 hours, even though all the lights in my router and modem check out. My mom says it's a problem with bandwith, but I doubt that. I really don't know what the problem is, or if I can even fix it.

So I'd like to upgrade into something more reliable. What's the cheapest (but still reliable) wireless DSL service out there?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I asked a guy in Circuit City about my current situation, and he gave me a simple solution; he said there was likely a conflict with my modem (my mom's setup consists of a D-Link, a Westell Modem, and a Linksys Router), so what I had to do was directly hook a PC to the modem, open up the modem's address, and change PPPoE to Bridged Ethernet.

Easier than it sounds. Unfortunately the modem's cable was hooked into something I couldn't even see (a technician set up her connection, so there's a billion cables going who knows where). So between that and my mom breathing down my neck, we decided to get a seperate connection for the family while leaving hers alone.

So I'll give that link you gave me a shot, and hopefully we can decide on something today and have a new connection set up early (tommorow would be nice). I'm personally tired of this shitty service and just want a working service full-time.

EDIT: So I checked the link, and it seems the top rated service in my FL area is Bellsouth, which we used before. I'm not sure which of the services are best though.

For a 2 story house with about five PC users, which service do you recommend?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Didn't really have any problems with them before. It's still the highest rated DSL service in FL, as well as the cheapest. Plus we get a free Tivo box with the first 3 months free.

Plus I already renewed the service today.

They said it should be up within 24-48 hours, although I can't actually use it without the installation CD (which should arrive on Monday). He said I could use our old one, but I doubt we still have that lying around. Is there an installation CD I could download online to speed up the process? I'd rather have it running by tommorow rather than Monday.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sounds right. I guess I'll just have to wait until it's actually installed.

Only problem is that I forgot to ask whether a second modem is required or not, since my mom is using the current one hooked up to the D-Link router for her job. I believe Bellsouth includes a free modem with subscription, so I could just call tommorow to confirm things. But we should be able to use the same router, correct (or will we need a second router as well)?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

So it turns out Bellsouth would've taken until December 20th to have my internet service ready, due to technical issues I won't get into. My father said to hell with that, and subscribed us to Comcast High Speed DSL. Snazzy.

Anyway, it took a good couple of hours to set up the internet with comcast, but I got it working via the modem. The wireless router is (typically) the real problem. Linksys had me reset the router and use some EasyLink Connect program which they said would help. Instead I get this:

This is how the router setup page looks now:

The wait time is extremely long on the phone (no surprise, lousy motherfuckers), so if any of you have any ideas what I'm supposed to do next, I'd appreciate it.

Double Post:
Well it took about 5 hours of pain and suffering, but I got a wireless connection going around the house now. Closing the thread (but feel free to give me a hand setting up my PS3's connection), thanks for the help.

I was speaking idiomatically.
