By all means, be a dick. Then maybe we'll get something like this again.

It wasn't a rumor, it was likely just delayed. The kiosks just finished setting up in Japan, so I guess they should be up here soon. Of course that's pretty irrelavent now, since the system's less than a month away. And personally I'm surprised about that. Feels so close now.

Also, OPM gave Resistence a 9. Looks like this is the launch game to get.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

That's pretty darn cool. It's also probably something you can adjust anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm likely just going to use custom wallpapers.

Do you know whether you can add saved music to loop during the menu (a menu theme, as it were)?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Uh, I thought it was kind of funny, myself. I can never resist the urge to yell "FINISH HIM!" just before the cube explodes.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Playstation 3: That Rubix Cube had it coming

Playstation 3: Is this Drakengard.

I want to grab Resistence as my launch title, but I'm waiting to see if any stores might sell it a little cheaper than $59.99, or if any of them are offering a bonus for buying it.

You people realize that Sega and the like have put out far worse ads in the past, right? Infernal's journal has one such example, with some chick in a bikini who played the gear gear and grew a pair of hairy nuts.
Once again, I'm requesting anyone who might have the Tazmania commercial for Genesis available to upload it. I probably have it on an old VHS, but I don't have the means or know-how to upload it online.

It was classic. It started with a guy belching "SEGA!" followed by 30 seconds of screaming death metal.

"WAAAAAAAGGHHHH WA WA WA RABABABA RABA RAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

I really don't see what the fuss is about with the PS3 ads. It mimics what Sony's been doing with the PS2 (and probably PS1) for years now. It's just some faux-mtv look at a system apparently so powerful that inanimate objects cry with emotion, and rubic cubes explode upon impact.

watch grubdog go nuts over the wii commercials and immediately dismiss everything else as inferior and "d00med"

I was speaking idiomatically.

Christ, 7 days left. Where's Metal Sphere been?

Genji 2's score is expected, given that it's obviously a PS2.5 title. It seems set in stone that Resistence has zero chance of sucking, which is more notable news, but I'll be checking this sunday's ads to see if any of the stores will sell it slightly cheaper or offer a bonus.

One thing I've been meaning to ask; even though the PS3 isn't offering any upscaling for PS1 and PS2 games (for now), wouldn't there be some sort of resolution boost if you're playing it on HDMI versus Component?

Don't worry, they'll make another Tony Hawk about 2 weeks afterwards...

And OPM already gave Resistence a 9.

Another question; does anyone know how long the power cord is for the system? I'd like to decide in advance how high I can put the PS3 on my new shelf.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Actually, one Sony PR guy (forgot the name) said DVD movies ARE upscaled. I guess you'll just have to wait and try it out yourself.

Have their been any reports of someone swapping the hard drives for a bigger capacity, third-party unit yet? IGN said they were working on it, but have yet to actually do it.

It seems easy enough to open the system from those pics, so I assume Sony won't put that "Void if Removed" sticker on it like they had on the PS2.
I thought exchanging hard drives was supposed to be a snap (a small slot to open the port)? If it involves opening the whole system up, then I'm not sure I want to try it. It's probably too late to change my preorder to the $600 model, though I'm still debating if I should even bother, since higher capacity hard drives can be found for a cheaper price, and I already have a wireless ethernet bridge.

EDIT: While trying out the Wii at Gamestop, I got confirmation that it's too late to switch systems, but I'm fine with the $500 model. One thing I did learn, though, is that the only special they're offering is that you get $10 off X-Men: The Last Stand for Blu Ray if you buy it along with the system. A pretty good deal, but I couldn't bring myself to spend money on the most disappointing movie of this year. If it was Black Hawk Down or something better, I'd probably take them up on the offer.

Also interesting is that they actually have finished, packaged PS3 games for sale now. The guy showed me the sealed cases for Tony Hawk and Ultimate Alliance. Pretty cool, though I don't quite like the clear Blu Ray border on the top. I was hoping they'd go for the black color scheme to match the system.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I felt about the same when I tried Excitetrucks today. In this case though, I guess the prettier generic racer wins out of the two. I'll probably hit my nearest Best Buy tommorow to see if they have the PS3 set up. But I'll be especially paying attention to Sunday's ads, to see if any specials or lower prices occur for the launch games.

Good, no need to open up the whole damn system then. All I have to do is wait a bit for everyone to try the different kind of drives, and then purchase whichever one people recommend the most (and at a good price).

I kind of doubt this will be the case, or at least if you use a combination of HDMI and the digital output for home theaters. Even if this was the case, a firmware update should be able to fix something like that.

Well, I went through the Sunday ads, but no specials on any of the games. They all sell for $59.99 and most are all available the day of the sytem. I guess I'll head to Gamestop and reserve Resistence.

A bigger issue I'm more concerned about is over wireless internet devices. Since I reserved the $500 model, that means no wi fi for me, since I already use the following for online gaming for my PS2.

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WGA11B...8&s=videogames

It should work the same for PS3, though a confirmation would be nice.

Also, I stopped by my Gamestop again to reserve Resistence. I'll be picking up both the system and game come this Friday. Fun times ahead.

Spoiler:
The Wii kiosk broke. Either that or someone tripped over the cord ("No AV Signal")

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried whether my pre-order will still be honored or not. When my sister went to reserve it for me, she said she was number 7 in line, and that the store was receiving 10-16 systems.

Two factors that help ease my mind are A) my Gamestop is pretty reliable, so if they guarantee a certain number of systems, it should stick and B) I reserved the $500 system, and I was told I was only one out of 3 who requested that model. Well, I'm not exactly sure if the latter is a plus or minus, but I'm thinking since the demand for the 60gb is higher, then there's a less likely chance of them reducing the number of 20gb models.

Who knows. I'll have to find out tommorow.

Yes, I know A) isn't a factor that means my odds are good, it's just a matter of blind faith. And B) could go either way I guess.

I just hope the original reserves were 16, not 10, because then I'd be guaranteed the system if they were cut in half (no 7 out of 8, versus 7 out of 10).

EDIT: "Hello this is Gamestop where you can buy and sell used games."

"Hi, I would like to find out my number in the PS3 reserves. I hear your shipment may be cut in half."

"Oh, alright man, let me bring out the manager. I reserved my own system, so I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing."

Manager: "Hi, can I get your last name?"

"It's *********"

"Okay, let me see....."

Spoiler:
"Oh, you reserved the 20gb system right?"

"That's right."

"Oh, okay then, you'll be getting it for sure this Friday."

"Oh cool, thanks."

B) wins.

Yet another new concern with the PS3, this one regarding resolution scaling.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129072

I'm not sure if this affects all TV's that don't feature 720p (which I'm pretty sure mine does not), or if it varies with each set. Metal helped me pick my TV, and I believe he mentioned mine could upscale a 720p image, but I'm still concerned.

Even if Resistence and a few other games don't upscale 720p, can this be fixed with yet another update?

Also, the people at my work yesterday, upon finding out that I have a PS3 reserved, kept bugging me to take the day off. I kept telling them that I wouldn't do anything that dishonest, but they kept insisting, saying it's no problem. It's a temptation I don't need.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I don't get any sick days or vacation days until after 3 months of starting, and I started in October. Also, I don't have a real "boss", per say, but the lady that would qualify as my boss is super nice and would probably egg me on too.

I dunno, I think I'm just being paranoid if I can't wait until 3pm, but then again I aggree when they say I shouldn't take any chances with something so expensive and highly sought after.

Because then I'd have a PS3 in my car, which is probably even less safe (no trunk, it's a pickup). This came up, so they said to just leave the system at my desk. Not that I don't trust anyone there, but even if leaving it there was safe, leaving the system within eye sight would only distract me and make me more anxious to get out of work.

I don't have a problem with waiting until I get off, but if they're really cool with it, I make take the day off. This is all a matter of being stupidly cautious, anyway.

That said, watching the upcoming youtube videos of people rioting in the malls come opening day should provide a nice bit of amusement (and horror).

How ya doing, buddy?

That's what I thought, but confirmation is always nice.

Also, I just got a call from Gamestop confirming that my 20gb system will be ready on Friday. But what's interesting is that the store is opening on 8am, opening up a new option for me; I could pick it up, drop it at home, and THEN go to work. This will require some thinking.

Resistence is also available for pick up right now. Not sure if I'll grab it today just for the heck of it.

Regarding the HDTV downscaling fiasco, the guys over at PA are apeshit pissed about the whole thing. I'm not too happy about it either if my TV can't handle it. If this can be fixed with an update, and I really hope it can, then Sony needs to make this a priority one fix, real soon.

I have a feeling the newest catchphrase for this year and the next will be "That is to be resolved in future updates."
