I was hoping you wouldn't need an adaptor to use a PS2 controller, but for 5 bucks, whatever. As long as the adaptor is double-sided (for two players).

I'm freaking sold. A detail-oriented guy like me goes crazy over all those stats and options. Also, that guy's TV makes me jealous.

The subject of headsets reminds me that I'll have to upgrade to something better than the one I'm using now (came with SOCOM 1). Anyone have any recommendations for a durable wireless headset (that's also affordable; nothing fancy, just good reception and volume control)?

That was the same idea I had, being able to play PSP games on the system. Although if Sony is smart, they'll require you to hook up the PSP and UMD to the PS3 via USB to do so. Still, with the ability to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games along with Blu-ray movies, PSP games, and a comprehensive OS, suddenly those $500-$600 feel pretty justified.

So what time this Thursday does the gamer's day event start?

That looks a lot thinner than a standard hard drive. I thought the PS3 used the standard brand like the PS2. This could pose a problem if those $20 Maxtor HDs don't end up working.

EDIT: Also, yay on hi-res minigames. Hopefully they don't cost much to download.

Bleh, when you said "standard 2.5 drives" I thought you meant HDs from PC's. I don't use a laptop, so I never bothered to learn little details like that.

Well I'm sure a place like cheapassgamer or a rebate offer from Officemax can net me a bigger 2.5 drive without shelling out an extra 100 bucks.

Maybe you should spoiler tag the insanely huge pics. Anyway, those are some stunning shots of Ryu, demons, guns, bikes, and boobs Racheal.

Spoiler tag doesn't keep the photos from loading, actually. It just doesn't display them. If you're that concerned, thumbnail 'em. I'd just leave them as is though.
I stand corrected. Learn something new each day.

Camping out just for the demo kiosks, now that is just ridiculous. Regardless, I'll be sure to call my BB on Friday to see if they have theirs set up. Even if I don't get a chance to play it, it'll be a treat just to watch it in action (assuming the idiot taking the turn knows how to play, and usually that isn't the case).

Did you hear that they're going to leave the Wiimotes wireless? This is going to cause some big problems. Scratched DS screens is one thing, but losing the chance to play it at all because some douche ran off with the remote is even worse.

God, I hope that means you can customize the game soundtracks. I also hope this means you can customize the PS3 menu sounds. I'd love to be able to add as many menu themes as I want.

What the heck is going on in that movie player?

That movie's had a ton of re-releases, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they released a "real" BR edition; within the year, at that.

I'd be happy if they at least showed various clips from movies in a BR demo disc, though, same as the games.

I swear, I'm trying not to get too fanboyish with these updates, but when I read more and more of all the near-endless features this system contains, I can't help but lose some of my composure.

What I wonder now, is if by setting up the video and audio options on the system means that those options will carry over to every PS3 game you'll play. It would be nice to never have to manually configure each game to suit your setup preferences if they're all loaded from the system.

I'm a bit perplexed by the HDMI Audio option. I thought the PS3 only had one HDMI output, so how are you supposed to hook up an additional one to your home theater? Or does this merely apply to the audio you'd get from the system-to-TV connection?

GAF is losing its fucking mind, so I'm glad you're keeping it cool. They're going on about Media Center, Emulating on Yellow Dog, BC for PS1 and PS2, FTWs, etc...
Oh, I'm the same. You don't need to be a fanboy to know that this system is opening a world of possibilities here. Transfering saved videos to watch on the PS3 (no more burning DVDs with Nero), custom soundtracks, and god knows how many emulators.

The emulator thing could especially be something huge. Just think, if the PS3 manages to emulate SNES, Genesis, N64 etc games with no hiccups whatsoever, then this would be a major blow to the Wii's VC. Who's going to pay $5-$10 when you can download all the games you want for free, including fan translations of some of the stuff that's remained in Japan? I wouldn't be surprised if Sony was thinking the same thing.

Tommorow's schedule, according to GAF.

Quote:
11.30-1 p.m: Developer Roundtable "Developing Games for PlayStation 3"
1 p.m: Travel to XXXX Studios
2 p.m.-3 p.m. Presentation at XXXX studios
3 p.m. - 5 p.m. PlayStation 3 Arcade (i.e. Hands-On with PS3, I'm looking forward to this part)
5 p.m.- 8 p.m. Cocktails and Live Musical Performance
Looks like the real news will begin by the time I'm out of work. Good timing.

This reminds me of that one episode where Homer buys a ton of crap for his car, including a DVD player, mini oven, and fog machine.

"Even I find this excessive."

I really don't see the use in a cellphone headset, unless it's a cheaper and smaller alternative for online voice chat.

One thing I hope they create is a wireless version of the Logitech keyboard controller made for PS2. It's an absolute neccesity for MMORPGs like FFXI, but it's also a pain to use with 3 wires connected to my system.

MOMO...

Damn, I sped out of work as fast as I could, only to learn that the show starts at 5pm est, not 2pm. That's another hour and a half.

New Resistence impressions in IGN.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/740/740239p1.html

Good News: Enemies now react to whatever part of their body you shoot (go for the hoses!)

Bad News: Max resolution is now 720p. Now this won't be the prettiest launch game (resolution-wise).

Sure, but I wanted to see how my HDTV measured up, so I took shots of similar scenes. Now, I'm still tinkering with my digital camera, so I don't know what combination works best (indoors? flash on/off? shutter speed priority?). The end result doesn't deliver the best quality I was hoping, but I think you can judge from these shots that the visual quality is about the same.

tagging the pics on account of being giant. also these ARE ending spoilers...:

Playing PS3 games in 1080p is going to be the ultimate test for my set. I really hope it justifies the money I spent last year, as it was almost soley purchased for this very reason.

Live Blog at 1up.com, though it lacks auto-refresh. Also, the blogger has a bit of an anti-sony bug crawling in his skin, but whatever.

Anyone know a site where I can download all the newest videos from today? It's a pain to navigate all the threads trying to find them all.

Also, is it confirmed that Best Buy is setting up the kiosks this Friday?

Aww, Genji. SOLDIER's got me hoping for "GIANT CRAB" commentary from the characters.
For those wondering, I suggested to Metal how awesome it would be if in Genji 2, upon meeting the infamous boss, one of the characters would actually shout-

"Look out! It's a Giant Enemy Crab!"

And once you battle it, you could also have someone suggest to you-

"Yoshitsune! Strike the weakpoint for Massive Damage!!"

I'd buy the game just for that alone. Why should Kojima be the only one who can parody other games (including his own)?

Quote:
I forgot to mention, the yellow things you see there under price say "Free". I have to thank SOLDIER for pointing that out yesterday.
I said that? I knew about it beforehand, but I don't remember pointing it out to you. Oh well, I'll take the credit.

Photo of the Playstation Store (Hopefully they'll have Einhander on there one day):
It's funny, that was the very first game I was thinking about when I saw this, too. I rented and finished the game, but never actually bought it, despite the favorable impressions. It had a kickass soundtrack, and they even snuck in Unit-01 as the first boss.

Quote:
What the hell? Novemeber 17th isn't actually the release date because there's something wrong with the machine?

I tried.
Pretty sure he means that Sony could delay the machine again. I'll admit I've been thinking the same thing more than once, but it's still 99.99% certain to make launch.

The one thing, THE ONLY THING, I fear during launch is getting a faulty system. If I end up unlucky, there's no chance I'll be able to exchange it for a working system (since they'll all be out), and I'll probably have to wait an unknown amount of time, plus shipping and handling, for Sony to replace it for me. It would help if someone told me that the machine is so powerful and full of so many chips, then that actually means LESS likely a chance something could go wrong, and not the other way around.

The lack of composite cables is unimportant for me, since I bought a spare HDMI cable since the beginning of this year. What I am disappointed about, though, is the lack of any enhancements for PS1/PS2 games. I was going to spend half the launch time popping in all my favorite games and taking note of their respective enhancements, just as I did with the PS2. Okay, they'll likely add an update later to support this, but who knows when that'll happen. If they guaranteed it would be ready by december, then I'm fine with it, but they'll probably never give an exact date (or even a confirmation that it'll happen).

I hear DVD movies won't be upscaled either. Fucking gay. :aargh:

By the way, did anyone check their Best Buys today? I was too tired from work to drive there, and they won't answer their phone either, but I'm still wondering.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Does anyone know the chepeast place to get 2.5 hard drives? I skipped out on the $600 system because I figured I could get a higher capacity HD for less than $100, but I've never shopped around for 2.5 drives before. Some suggestions and links would be nice.

The OS will likely format the drive, but it's simply a 5400rpm SATA laptop drive. IIRC, made by Seagate.
Another thing I should brush on, the drive speed. What was the rpm for the default PS3 hard drives again? I've read some people speculating that the faster the drive speed=faster load times on PS3 games, but is that a given?

5 minute playthrough of Sonic. Even though it's from an Xbox 360 forum, this is reportedly the PS3 version.

http://www.insidegamer.nl/xbox360/so...og/videos/1258

I really, really want this game to be good. The graphics are there as well as the action (love the way Sonic hops around rocks like in the Sonic CD intro), but it's not looking good for this game. There's noticable camera bugs and glitches. Also, you'd think Sega would have learned to write coherent english dialogue by now. "That Tornado!" and "I can wipe them out if I hit that pipe right!" just doesn't sound like normal english no matter how well acted the lines are (and they aren't; wtf at Silver's voice).

Sonic is dead to me if this fails. Enough is enough.
