Not enough material to make a new thread over, but...

For PSP, that looks pretty damn good.

Not surprised they took out multiplayer. I was mildly interested, but few members means little fun. The problem, though, is that I'm told multiplayer has some key story details on certain characters. I hope that information is retained somewhere else, but not likely.

The character/image/sound galleries are a nice touch though. But what about the issues with hit detection or the imprecise aiming? I hope those got fixed too. If all goes well, DoC can be both FFVII fanservice AND fun to play. Hopefully.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Oh, all's well then. Any word about the voice acting? I'm certain Steven Blum will reprise his role, but I really hope Romano is back as Yuffie, considering how Yuffie-heavy the game is.

Maybe the thread should now be called "Official FFVII Compilation Thread". I'm sure a few members would appreciate all the FFVII talk bundled into one thread.

How come they make those expensive statues of Cloud fighting Seph for both AC and FFVII, yet there's nothing for FFVIII. That sucks. Would be cool to get one of Squall fighting Seifer.
They have a statue of Seifer fighting Odin.

Good luck finding Odin, though, because I still can't make him out (I imagine he's that streak, but why is he a streak?).

Here we go again....

The newest issue of Electronics Gaming Monthly had some interesting information. From how they've worded it, it seems to imply that Final Fantasy VII is in the works for the PlayStation 3. However, with absolutely no information at E3 (where over a dozen "Final" Fantasy titles were shown) it seems very unlikely. Especially when you consider that almost every team that could be involved with the production of the game is currently doing one of the FFXIII titles or something else.

Well, it could still happen right? It's almost unthinkable it wouldn't happen with the FFVII milking that's been going on. Let's see how it works out - or doesn't work out.
-QJ.net

I'm putting this here so we can immediately dismiss it. The article was written before E3, and with Nomura currently very busy with FF vs XIII (they haven't even gotten past concept art), I don't see any remake news happening for a while. And even if he does have the free time, I'd rather see him work on the next compilation title to either continue or wrap up the current story. We already have one prequel coming up (CC), so I'd rather see what happens next in the current storyline.

Ha ha ha, holy shit, Robot Chicken just parodied FFVII. Cloud and the others working in a fast food place. Catch the repeat later tonight if you missed it.

20 More Years of Final Fantasy VII
And Square Enix's plans for FFXIII could stretch a decade.
by Patrick Klepek, 05/24/2006
17 of 17 users recommend this story.
After making an impressive splash at this year's E3 debuting the next-generation Final Fantasy, Square Enix held a business meeting in Japan outlining their financial results and offering a small glimpse into what the company's planning for the future. Unsurprisingly, there's no lack of Final Fantasy.

Japanese gaming website Game Watch was on-hand for the event, and Square Enix president Yoichi Wada made some interesting comments about the plan for their ever-expanding Final Fantasy VII projects and what's coming for Final Fantasy XIII.

The company actually views FFVII as a 20-year project. That probably doesn't mean Square Enix is cooking up two decades worth of Cloud and Sephiroth-themed videogames, but it's been ten years since the original, and we still haven't received our next-generation remake, so maybe that will float FFVII through the next ten.

Similarly, Fabula Nova Crystallis -- the name dubbed for their vision of FFXIII -- is also being developed with a ten-year outlook in mind. Of course, that could change depending on how the three already-in-development games fair, but FFXIII is a nucleus through which the company hopes to expand from. While only three games in Fabula Nova Crystallis have been announced, they haven't ruled out additional releases.

And while Final Fantasy XI has made a successful transition onto Xbox 360 this year, MMO gamers should probably look elsewhere for their online fix if they're expecting a follow-up anytime soon; the company doesn't expect to launch a sequel or replacement in the coming fiscal year ending March 31, 2007.

You kids better love your Final Fantasy; you're going to be getting plenty of it.

"ZOMG 34 & 1/2 NEW GAMES IN FOUR YEARS! ALL FFVII RELATED!!"
To be fair, the article stated that the 10 extra years was in regards to development time. Let's assume it would take 1-2 years before Nomura and his team is free to start work on the remake. Then factor in another 3-4 years of development. Then toss in an additional 3 or more years to make the big finale that concludes it all.

So it doesn't neccesarily mean you'll be getting 10+ FFVII-themed games in 10 years. But on the other hand, it COULD mean that, but there's no way to know right now.

I'm still on the fence about this. I was pretty much hoping they would resolve FFVII's story for good within the next 2-3 years. The idea of waiting until I'm 35 to see how it all ends doesn't sound very appealing.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Isn't FFVII already resolved? What's else to do? Do you just mean "I WANT CLOUD AND TIFA TO KISS AND MAKE BABIES" or something?

The bad guys are dead, the good guys are alive. Aeris is floating around in the lifestream. The end. It's over.
From what I read, Dirge of Cerberus introduces some new plot points (and villains). But yeah, I'm more interested to see each character get some final closure. That's why another game isn't completely necessary; I'd be just happy with another character-driven movie to wrap it all up.

Final Fantasy IV. It was and still is the best ending I've seen for an RPG. Aside from Kain wandering around like the usual angsty loner (circa 1991 even), I felt that every other character got a proper amount of closure. It's also the only FF where it ends with a wedding.

I felt Kingdom Hearts II wrapped things up quite nicely, too, even though they're already showing teasers for part 3.

Quote:
How about, no? How about dumping the thing and starting on some new material for a change?
Isn't that what they're doing right now with FFXIII? It would be much worse if they put that off for 10 years while giving us all the remaining FFVII titles.

Basically, if they can keep the FFVII world interesting, I say let them make as many installments as they want. That's all I have to say on the matter.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I've had a few scans from the book for over a week now. I've been meaning to post them in my journal, but yes, every single line of text is accompanied with an english translation.

Interestingly enough, the translated lines are from the english version of the movie (ie "I feel lighter").

Again, I request the thread be changed to "FFVII Compilation". Helps keep all the spin-offs under one thread.

Plus it'll keep the haters from bitching about the forum having 5+ FFVII threads. Nice work.

Here are the scans I mentioned, taken from ac.net. Cloud and Tifa specific information.

I'm still hoping for AC figures of Kadaj, Yuffie, and so on. Looks like we only get 3 or 4 of the most popular characters.

I always thought the woman in the "3 men and one woman" tagline was Tifa, but it could end up being Aerith instead. I thought Tifa would be a more natural (and interesting) fit, since we could finally see how she managed to adapt in life in Midgar, as well as how she met Barret.

Rinoa doesn't come with any weapons at all? Ridiculous.

I hope they are planning to release Zell, Quistis, and Irvine with that set. I mean, why not have the full giant cast of six full characters for a line.
Forget them. Laguna, Kiros, and Ward for the win.

Goddamn, that Selphie is a thousand times better than the original sculpt. I'm pretty disappointed that they couldn't replicate her cute facial features. I'm still going to get that Squall though.

Personally, I just rolled my eyes when I read the sales figures for AC. Oh, it's sold well, of course, but I keep wondering if it could have sold even better in NA if A) Square released it sooner, cutting down the number of downloaders, or B) They bothered to advertise it any better than the crap marketing it got.

That Sephiroth is bone chilling, but in a good way. The way the leather and hair came out is just perfect.

Still, you've got to be out of your mind to shell out $400.

G's VA has been confirmed.

Quote:
The official website of Robin Atkin Downes, has clerified that Robin Atkin Downes will be voicing as Genesis in Dirge of Cerberus, although his Resume labels him as 'Gackt'.

For those unsure of who he is, he has played many popular roles, such as Prince from The Prince of Persia, and Luxord from Kingdom Hearts II
-ac.net

http://www.robinatkindownes.com/animation_resume.pdf

It'll be interesting to see how he will handle the role, as it seems G is going to be a regular in the FFVII universe for a while. Still, I can't believe the guy couldn't spell Samanosuke Akechi correctly. :/

And here's a Youtube link of the english commercial. The new voices sound nice, and Blum is definetely back as Vincent.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6zd4doKhaaA

I'm also pretty disappointed how EGM continues to slam the game before it's even been reviewed. Then again, I'm not expecting much gameplay-wise, nor do I care much. The game looks amazing, so it'll be worth it for the presentation if nothing else.

The official DoC site has been up since yesterday.

http://na.square-enix.com/dcff7/

I stand by what I said; gameplay isn't going to be a factor here. Those cutscenes look amazing (and plenty dark, even by FFVII standards).

I can't tell at all if Yuffie is played by Christie Romano or her replacement in KH2. Also, they changed the R in WRO from "Restoration" to "Regenesis".

I preferred the former. The latter is a bit cheesy (and is that even a real word?).

Gametrailers has a cool video showing the differences between the Japanese and NA versions of this game.

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2296

I don't know about the rest of you, but it certainly looks playable to me. And again, those cutscenes look fantastic. I just wish I knew whether that was Christie Romano or her replacement voicing Yuffie.

Do you mean NA stores? Have the FFVIII figures been released for the US as well? How much are they going for (hopefully the same as the AC figures)?

I'm not trying to needlessly defend the game, but EGM is the one magazine where I have to question its current credibility. They've been slamming the game since before the NA improvements every chance they got. If anyone's capable of giving FFXII anything less than a 10, it'll be them.

Other mags like Play have been more favorable, but I am prepared if the game doesn't hold up play-wise. I'm willing to forgive that so long as the cutscenes are plentiful and enjoyable.

It was decided to keep all FFVII-based information and discussion under one thread. And IGN's review helped quell my earlier misconceptions a bit. The game is flawed, no question, but the story at least delivers. The fact that IGN criticized the game for having too many cutscenes felt like a plus in my book.

So in the end it will boil down to how much you like FFVII, or Vincent in particular. So I at least have nothing to worry about.

How ya doing, buddy?

I don't think Square fixing the game for NA isn't an indication that they respect the fans; they're just trying to make a broken game playable and hope the profits will justify the means.

Anyway, the game is out now, but as surprising as it sounds, I don't have it. This is due to two reasons.

1. I had a Focus Group meeting from 6am to 5pm.

2. I was waiting to see if it worked with HD Loader. I'm saving all my money for the PS3, so it would really work in my favor if I didn't have to pay for a game that's admiteddly flawed yet still full of merit. Even if it is an FFVII-themed game.

Spoiler:
Well good news, it seems to work with Mode 3 enabled. Blackcats has the torrent up now. Download I go.

I was willing to buy it despite the complaints, because the game is certain to at least deliver with cutscenes. But downloading the game guarantees I'll get more enjoyment than disappointment from it, since I didn't pay anything for it. While I feel a little guilty for backstabbing my favorite series, current financial circumstances forced me to take this route.

That and the fact that FFXII has gotten my full RPG attention this year. Anything else before it is merely filler.

Also, I just started downloading now, so I'll probably leave my PC on while I sleep. Hopefully it'll finish by the time I wake up.

First of all, there's no chance in hell that DoC won't at least break even with Square, if not sell in truckloads; it has the words "Final Fantasy VII" and "Playstation 2" in the same sentence. It's a franchise, and far worse franchise spin-offs have sold well despite any crappy reviews.

Secondly, SE has said many times that BC will come here as soon as our mobile phones update; they've been tossing english screenshots around forever now.

Thirdly, Xenosaga, unfortunately, never meets Namco's expectations saleswise. And I personally find the decision to not bring the DS game over here quite stupid, especially when they could let Nintendo or someone else handle the localization.

And forthly, almost everything FF-related always turns a profit, even if you only factor in Japanese sales.
